Re-Building a Racetrack with a Kei Truck

- Wakefield Park Closed earlier this year. The local community and race car lovers alike were sad to see its gates shut. It then changed hands and the new owners asked me I wanted to come and have a look around at some of the re-construction of two circuits, one raceway!.. I said sure, as long as I can bring my Kei Truck and help out.

Haha 😎
1) People get angry about street racing
2) Race track is built out away from people
3) Property values are low because of proximity to race track
4) People looking to build a home, and developers buy up land around race track because it's dirt cheap
5) Land develops and people move in
6) People complain about the noise of the racetrack they moved in next to
7) race track shuts down
8) People start street racing again
9) see 1.
I did think it was completely dumb that people complained about moving next to a race track that was there before them. They can all F*** o** and pay more to live else where.
Exact same thing happened to a skatepark near me.
Very true, and if there is a race track, you'd be lucky if it's any good, here in the Netherlands you're always sandwiched between walls and guard rails when on a track, so one small mistake and your car is totaled (not to mention the bill from the track to repair the guard rail), it's actually safer and so much cheaper to just choose a bunch of roads in the middle of nowhere and race around there, than going to a track, which is a shame
Just happened to the Archerfield drift track in Brisbane. They built it next to an airport thinking they'd not have that problem but the airport is mostly used for VFR flight (sun up, not too cloudy) so the townhouse owners 300m up the road decided the noise at night was an issue and the burnt rubber would make them sick despite the fact they bought a house next to an airport full of planes running leaded petrol.
In this case the neighbours who were affected, were there before the race track. The original track owners, did not operate the track within the guidelines of the Approval nor finalise the abatement showcased in this video. It was not shut down but forced to operate according to the approval.
ok the Kei Truck helping rebuild Wakefield? GOAT car status confirmed.
Happens with small rural airports too... people move close to something that makes noise and get mad when it's loud
Good to see a track will stay around and not be developed
i wonder if some of the smaller airfields could manage with wooden sound barriers like 80s nascar had theyre cheap and easy to put up
@@ricochetgaming7858 I think the best, cheapest sound barriers of all would be earplugs put into the ears of those Karens.
Local airstrip at gloucester NSW had a decent skydiving business until a recently arrived resident with money decided he didnt like the sound of small aircraft on the weekend.
Business dead.
In Newcastle NSW there was a pistol club that was in a disused quarry. Developers bought up the land around the top of the hole and built a heap of McMansions. The new residents started bitching about the noise from the bang sticks, on the weekends...minor turf war ensued... one bloke, who was a right prick, sold up less than a year after moving in because he didn't like being told to pull his head in by the powers that be after his campaign of harrassment failed...😏
As far as I know, the club is still there...😁
🙃🐨🇦🇺
Not just small ones. I live next to Birmingham BHX, had them in place since the 80's, defo work!
I was on the verge of selling my Lotus because there’s no tracks near me without Wakefield. I love that this is happening.
I hope people with trick exhausts don’t abuse them in the future.
The owner seems like a pretty genuine fella
Martin is literally a kid playing in a sandbox with Tonka trucks, and it's great, lol.
The track was there first , new houses can get bend if they don't like the noise.
its just classic losers who dont have a life and want cause issues for everyone else
I find it very satisfying when I see Marty's Kei Truck in action. Doing small truck things the small truck way!
I hope a laserscanned version of the track will be available in a sim racing game soon, so not only the locals but also everyone else around the world can race on it too (besides, it is great advertisement these days). 😉
it's on assetto corsa, just depends if the layout changes with the new work going on.
So much content recently, thank you guys for all the hard work! Hope to see you in US next year!
Hoping they go to the freedom factory and colab with CLEETUS!
Cant wait for Wakefield. Im a single dad with a disabled kid, cant get to SMSP for track day but Wakfield is good for me. Got fresh slicks on the R6, just waiting for them to open again.
Agree one million percent, the previous owner's biggest issue was their communication and openness about what they were doing. This video is fantastic showing that the new owner is keen to get it right and communication is the key!
Great work Marty and all
Echo Steve's comments about it being the place of some of my favourite days, a place where I've made lifelong friendships, and a place I dearly miss. Can't wait to go back!
The new owner you can see and hear the amount of passion and caring in his voice and face. He truly cares for the community around the track. That’s pretty rare these days and the fact he is putting his own money down to update and help with noise is amazing. Here in the states we see the same issues. Ppl move close to the tracks and then complain about the noise. I live a mile from a dirt circle track and it’s noisy but I’m perfectly ok with it. Honestly during Covid it was shut down and I missed the noise. Keep these tracks alive please!
Exactly. Sometimes it takes the right owner to get things done
It's a really disgusting practice - track were already there, so they KNEW what they were getting into!
Worse, because of the noise issue the houses are generally significantly cheaper to buy and they're just being greedy f***ers!
Good on you Freya, how cool!
good on ya marty for helping out in the k truck. And thank you steve for trying to get the track back up and running. i remeber watching a video of a s4-5 rx7 vs a v8 supercar going round this track as a kid! such a neat track. all the best guys!
Race tracks bring money to small nearby towns, which then expand and then new people get bothered by the noise of the track and want them shut down. It's happening all over, even here in Ontario, Canada we have this issue and it's such a pain...
We're experiencing the same at Road Atlanta in Braselton, Georgia. The North Georgia area (anything north of Atlanta) is growing at such an insane rate, and the people moving into the suburbs around Road Atlanta are rich families that want the track shut down. I heard a similar thing was happening to the Atlanta Motor Speedway south of Atlanta too. I blame the realtors for maybe not telling people "btw, your subdivision is near a racetrack and it gets very crowded and very loud when events are happening"
We have calabogie around my corner of Ontario, which they thankfully built in the middle of nowhere!
Yep the city my dad is from had 5 speed way tracks now there's 1 plus a bunch of houses
Watching Wakefield come back to life is putting the biggst smile on my face.
Even though there's basically zero chance I'll ever drive there, seeing a track improved rather than torn down is one of the best feelings a motoring enthusiast can get.
The great vibes from all involved on top of that makes this video such a pleasure. I'll be coming back when my mood needs a bit of forced induction.
Thanks for highlighting this wonderful project on your channel.
This has such "kid takes his tonka toys down to the jobsite" vibes and i love it
This is incredible news! I wasn't aware there was a new owner until I saw this. I had seen items posted from the "Save Wakefield Park" group on social media doing their best to keep the track open. But this is the best thing knowing it will have a new life as a better track/s for grass roots motor sport to attend. I don't live anywhere near this track I am very happy to discover what is happening. NSW and Australian motor sport have something to be excited about with the saviour of Wakefield Park.
Great to see tracks being built, improved and maintained. I love the additional content. You guys are killing it, hope there's more than 40 viewers...
#41 😂
I'm loving these solo videos from you guys. Moogs last video was amazing and this one from Marty is awesome too. Hope you guys give us more of this type of videos whenever you can.
Just awesome guys! hope this track gets to live again!
I visited Australia for the first time in 2019 and one of the things I got to do during my visit was drive a VX Monaro V8 around Wakefield Park during a track day. One of the best days of my life, and so glad to see that the track will stay open!
Every Race Track recovered is another Victory. Thanks to those who invest and all those who invest there time and effort to achieve for the common good. Thanks for the report Marty made me smile all the way. Go Mighty Kei Truck.
This is now one of my favorite MCM episodes! Some of the best days of my life happened at the track.... Really hits home.
So many good memories racing at Wakefield Park. Really looking forward to heading back to Goulburn for its return! 😊
omg the bucket on the excavator is bigger than the kei truck. LOL.
Amazing that Wakefield's alive, but I worry that the underlying issues of the surrounding properties going back on their agreements from the 90's will persist.
It is so good to see Wakefield being resurrected. Was a travesty it got closed, and huge credit to everyone involved in sorting it out.
spun a bearing at Wakefield after staying in the cabins the night before... couldn't have had more fun those couple days! glad to see it's on the comeback
Dump Truck races would be awesome. Parity achieved with dirt!
It is good to see someone saving the race track . some families are built around racetrack
MCM TV2 fans are being very well treated recently :)

It's the most appropriate vehicle that you could take because it actually runs 😉
Gawd I was expecting Marty to say "We have bought a racetrack", what a let down lol
Not in Australia
You know you done a good build when your vehicle actually makes everyone smile...I love that little truck.
What a cool video! And the little kei truck was phenomenal in helping! When you guys come stateside, please colab with Cleetus McFarland 💙💙💙
Racetracks in country areas should think about having a crawler course and a mud pit. It costs nothing compared to the actual track and the locals would probably get more use out of it. I don't know any farmers with a Lotus Elise but I know a lot of them who'd love a place to play with their 4WD that has a tow truck on site that can get them unstuck.
I believe that’s on the cards
@@mcmtv2 I was thinking that exact thing seeing the quarry how good it'd be like SMP to have a 4WD section. Along with the racetrack surely that'd be an awesome fun pit. Maybe we need to start a Kei Truck Crawler series... 😆
@@wazupshaggy With a dirt section they could also do rallycross if they don't mind having to clean the dirt off the track after.
I know over near The Bend race way at Tailem Bend has a crawler course and a mud pit I think.
Man. Australians are so chill. This was an awesome video
I hope they can make peace with the residents. The attitude of the owner, foreman, and other workers is very enthusiastic.
As a fan of Goulburn, I'm glad that time, effort and a lot of money is being invested to keep this circuit alive
Please tell me he didn’t say that he’s “going to put a load in you” Marty?
I’m smiling watching this and I’m so glad that they are trying to get the track open again. There are way to many public areas like this to close, instead all these millennials are going camping and destroying the beautiful Australian bush.
I had to pause the video to laugh after I heard that
Good on you mcm for tell this story, I loved it.
Marty, build a deputy 4 hour car, best way to help Wakefield/one is help fill the grid at pheasant wood, and you’ll have a bucket load of fun too !
I can't wait to see Wakefield Park open again!
Thank you for all of the great content lately. (So much better than a post every two months)
Thank you for sharing this with us all.
This has been happening far too often over the years so to see someone put their money where their mouth is has been a breath of fresh air for us all
Awesome episode. Great to see this happening, I missed out getting to this track in the past. Hopefully I'll be able to get there after it reopens.
Nice to see the racetrack coming up again.
As a fellow enthusiast it will be nice to see the businesses come back up again as well.
Looking forward to when this is done❤
Really enjoying and appreciating all of the content lately guys thank you for the hard work
Racing on the brand new Townsville track this weekend! So happy to see Wakefield live again!!!
Love the Kei truck interview series
That's cool to see the kei truck in it's natural habitat
Love the dose from that little truck.
Cheers for shining light on the redevelopment, can’t wait to cut laps there again
BEST 4x4 channel on the Internet. Go lil truck, GO!
My track! Yes!!! I want to do ride days again on my SV650 track bike
Steve showing his down-to-earth nature will be good for business...es
It's interesting to see how the scale of earthmoving equipment is performed by different groups of people. From residential equipment like Martin's 1.8t digger, to the civil equipment being used in this job to the mining equipment I'm used to. Horses for courses for sure, but now i need to see matry park that truck in a dragline bucket 😂
Owner seems like a bloody good bloke.
Love seeing people investing in Motorsport. And not for sheer profit.. for the love of the sport ! 🏁.
What a beautiful area!
we want see a army of Kei trucks helping to move dirt.. epic
I wish Perth had a secong racetrack, we have 1 north of the river but we need one south of the river so we can have more events here.
How good is Freya ,what a champion !!!
That Kei Track it sounds amazing With Turbo Good job Marty👏👏👏👏👏
Marty yook a Matchbox truck to a Tonka rally.....love it!!!
Great news that the track is coming back. The town really needs it.
Thanks for the truth about the track and it’s great to see it won’t be shut for ever
Love this! Support ya local track!
This is a such a wonderful video.
You don't get much more MCMTV2 than this. Thanks for taking us along Marty :)
Happy to hear this track will continue on, and not turn into a housing estate.
I was hoping with that initial opener that you guys went full Cleetus and bought the track to bring back to life lol.
DLEIFEKAW KRAP. Sounds like an awesome German racetrack!
I loved Moogs recent MCM2 video it hit hard and made me feel good and bad and then switch between the two. And 6 minutes into this one I love that Marty has a genuine child like innocence that he lets fly. I think kinda like old Top Gear that I got into for the cars and ended up enjoying seeing the hosts the same has happened with the boys. They could literally eat ice cream and I would be happy watching them. Good for the soul this lot.
This makes me want a Kei Truck interview series.
2 and counting
Man I need to move to Australia, I need a Freya in my life, specially for that accent alone
The little kei truck that kould.✌👍
Great work Marty and the new owners. We need more tracks not less.
In this episode.. Marty takes a big load up the dirt track.
Great presentation!
There's something about the country accent that makes an 18 year old sound more grown up than a 30 year old with a city accent.
Excellent Vid once again, u never know whats coming next 😆
Brilliant way to promote the revamp of a great circuit.
that was cool, thanks Marty :)
Marty is so fucking wholesome and i love it (and him)
OMG my 38hp tractor can pick up more than that kei truck can haul. I still want one, though.
Your excitement the whole time driving around the work site with a smile, enjoying yourself, was infectious.
In Las Vegas, there is a company that lets you rent big land moving equipment like that by the hour so you can dig up the ground on their site for fun.
We want to see more content of the track!
Keep safe with excavators, tippers and drones near 330kV power lines! Love it.
Good on ya mate, love it!
8:51 "I believe you're gonna help us out, we're gonna put a load in you"🤣
Watching Marty have so much fun taking his Kei truck around a job site is adorable
Great video I would love a shot from the air to see the before and after of this track
Class. Great if the embankments could become banked sections of the new circuit 🙂
When i imported my Acty i had to have it weighed to register it, i had to drive it to a local quarry to get my certificate the DMV wanted.
Best construction channel on the Interballs! Love it!
