- What is it really like hosting an international series of Top Gear Australia, working with the BBC Crew, how did this happen and what does it mean for Mighty Car Mods?
I assumed it was spam when I got an email from BBC Studios asking me about hosting a new version of Top Gear Australia. So in this video, I sit down with esteemed motoring journalist Iain Kelly to spill the beans on what happened next...
Top Gear Australia launches on Paramount+ on May 17th 2024, and it due to broadcast in countries all over the world.

I especially liked when Moog just ups and sells Marty’s car from under him when they road trip only a real mate would sell your car without you knowing and you still wanna be around ‘em that is *true friendship 😂

I never thought I'd watch Top Gear again after the Clarkson, Hammond, May era. I'm now excited for the new series. Thanks, Moog!

Excited?..So is the Top Gear franchise. The producers know what audience Moog can bring back to a dying franchise. Top Gear should thank their lucky stars for Moog's involvement.
Throughout the whole episode, Moog constantly directs the attention, and the praise to everyone else - to the Top Gear crew, to Marty, To Ian, etc. a very humble guy. Appreciate you Moog 👊
My favourite part is when he shares that Marty pushed him to do it. A sign of true friendship to truly inspire your mates to get out of their comfort zone
Sounds like a blast, and leaving Marty unattended actually produced some classic unhinged MCM moments.

With the Cancellation of Top Gear UK, I think Top Gear Australia is going to be the new Global Top Gear especially with the Streaming on Para+ and hearing Moog talk with the old uk crew working on it, sounds like its gona be a banger!
I'm very happy for Moog and for his success, but Marty is the GOAT. Supporting your mate to succeed, and be humble enough to stay in the background is always the most important, and the man knows. You try to elevate people around you, always. Respect off the scale.

This is fantastic, great interview. Moog, the fact that your favorite part of this experience was meeting the crew and how much that impacted you is a clear indicator of your heart for people. The MCM community loves cars of course, but yourself and Marty make the connection to the fans real. Great work, can't wait to watch TG!

Marty is such a GC, he knew instantly that Moog needed to take the opportunity. And Moog trusting Marty and taking the leap is awesome. Props to both of them for getting to this point.

When you announced you were going to work on Top Gear, I was bouncing off the walls! I'm just a guy from the UK who's loved your RUclips channel for many years. This venture just feels right and very well deserved, Moog. Looking forward to hopefully seeing it soon in little blighty.
Funny, years and years ago when Top Gear Australia first aired I thought, "they should get MCM to host, they actually love cars" turns out I was half right about 13 years later.

Towards the end of the interview you express your love for Marty and it is just so obvious what good friends you are and how you support each other. Life is short and we need to tell people arounds us that we care. When I think about the RUclips shows I enjoy like VGG, Project Binky, Matt's Off Road Recover etc, the common thread is the interactions with people. As you say, good on you mate.

Frank, honest, interesting, without the inflated egos and a real joy to hear the passion come through. I am keen to see what this incarnation of the show is like after the abysmal efforts that have proceeded it that were 'trying too hard' to mimic what was done before. i have to say Moog! very impressive that you were given the amazing opportunity to be a genuine top gear host! and even more impressive was the fact that while you were off filming top gear all over the planet, we had NO IDEA! that you were not at home hanging out with your best mate filming MCM episodes to keep all of us fans entertained! amazing! amazing that Marty did such a spectacular job keeping that whole deal under wraps and that you wee able to get back periodically and film episodes of MCM that enabled Marty and you to hide that fact! well done guys very VERY well done!!!!! 👋👋👋👋👋👋👋👋👋👋👍👍
They didn't hide it. There was a whole episode when they said he was doing it and told us he wouldn't be around much. You must have missed it.

@@Iainkellyis you know what just blew my mind. The grommets have just got interested in watching TopGear. Like in the last two weeks. They just noticed it. It’s always been there but they have reached an age where it interests them. They laugh a lot at the stuff going on. But here was me trying to watch your interview and the grommet was constantly stopping me to laugh and share what was happening in the TopGear episode he was watching.
I stopped and switched it off and did what was right. Watching Top Gear with him and sharing that experience with him.
I had to come back and watch this through again and that’s totally ok.

I'm glad you and Marv put this interview out cos I'm now pumped to watch it, cos to be honest when I first saw the add showing the co hosts I was a bit unsure how it would turn out.
I was however definitely glad to see Shane (takes any role offered) Jacobson wasn't making a return!😂
What makes Moog great is his lack of ego and his value of gratitude. It's the recipe for humility. And you can see it in his respect and appreciation for the talent of the crew he was fortunate enough to work with. Not to mention his love for his extraordinary friend, Marty. How can you not like the guy?

I owned a 1989 Isuzu I-Mark RS . Sold in Australia as the Holden Gemini, ... Isuzu Gemini in other markets of the world.
My car had a NA 16 valve 1.6 L I4 rated at 130+ hp/apx 95.615 kilowatts, and revved to an 8500 rpm cut off.
It had a Lotus Tuned suspension, and model specific body cladding with aero upgrades . the hatchback was the most popular in my country.
A truly unsung hero of Nuggets!

Scripted comedy became a huge frustration for car guys and i often wondered how you guys would keep a show like that legit and less wasteful on a big budget.

Really cool interview. I've always felt that Moog was the alpha of the friendship. My wife hasn't watched in a while so she doesn't see the evolution in Moog as he respects and truly loves Marty. Such an awesome thing this Mighty Car Mods. I truly hope it goes on forever!
It’s exciting to see you succeed and carry on the Top Gear legacy;I always thought you and Martin together would somehow manage to become the hosts of this fabulous series someday - I think the BBC is missing an opportunity to showcase that unique friendship - Stiil, I can’t wait to see the new Top Gear and imagine a future TG where you and Martin are the co-hosts together. MCM is the best, but the world deserves a new TG to rival the era of Clarkson, May and Hammond and you two could bring us that together 👍👍

Maaaate, with you in it. TOP GEAR is back. I'll look forward to it. As for McM, im loving it too, for me, it shines a light on a completely different car world to what i grew up with. Growing up in a coastal nsw town, we had 4 car dealers. Toyota, Nissan, Ford and Holden. We grew up on the spanners and you could show me a bolt and i could tell you what part of the car it came from. As kids we had rego motors, which we would throw in just to pass inspection then put the the hot motor back in it, in under 2 hrs. On friday night we would convert a car from an auto to a manual just because there was nothing on TV that night. Keep it up boys. 😊 long live McM.
I’ve been watching mcm since the very beginning and I’m so happy to see Moogs take on this role - I’ve watched the first two episodes and it is the best Australian iteration they have released - it definitely feels like the old uk version. Well done Moogs, absolutely well deserved!

This is such a natural choice in my mind. I remember that there were only two motoring shows that really sustained my attention and fandom over the years. The first was Top Gear right up until Jeremy and the boys left, the other channel was MCM. I’ve loved seeing MCM grow over the years and branch out of tutorial videos, but the core energy of the show has persisted. Both Marty and Moog have become stellar and entertaining car hosts with a clear passion for what they do and I think Top Gear needs that.

some other guys said it already but it feels like one of your friends is in this crazy opportunity and you can't help but feel proud off him, feel happy for him. I honestly kinda turned my nose when I first heard about it but looking now, I just want it to be awesome for Moog, and if he is enjoying it, if he feels like doing it and being himself on this other media, I'm all in for it! Regarding the Top gear brand, I don't think anything can ever be as big as clarkson may and hammond were, because of the moment onf the world they were doing it was so specific, so looking it as a comparison will only disregard the work Moog and the other guys will be doing here, but if there's chemistry between them, if they happen to make it unique in its on way, I reckon it can be big, and I hope so, I cheer for it!
