Many of us want real, thoughtful, compassionate & long lasting change. That involves having the capacity to listen, hear, accept, reflect, and respect. It also requires us to choose to act out of love, not fear. The challenge is to recognise those among us who choose to continue to act of fear, with no empathy for others. There will always be those who will ‘have a go’ at anyone who is trying to advocate for positive change, but Brian you have a good heart (no pun intended, but feel free to smile) and a beautiful giving spirit, and you have to know that you are respected & loved for what you have done, & continue to do. Absolutely right Brian, history teaches us things, (or is supposed to). Every country has got things that they are not proud of, but that's what history is, a series of events, whether good or bad. I find it unbelievable that there are some, who would try to rewrite it...😎👍
You are absolutely correct. The Civil War happened, as did all the wars. I hate that people ruin or tear down statues the represent someone who lived a very long time ago. They played their part to make us who we are now l Brian is exactly right. Brian please don’t ever apologize for your views or thoughts. You said the truth.
I agree with you, IF the statues were raised by their contemporaries, and not by people decades and centuries after they lived, using them to glorify their acts and intimidate people.
Besides the statues being raised decades later (or centuries in the case of the Bristol statue of Edward Colston) in order to glorify and sanitize slavery (re-writing history), the "confederate battle flag" is used by Nazis in place of the [prohibited in Germany] Nazi flag. History has been rewritten, and state funds shouldn't be used to celebrate those who divided us. "Made us who we are now" includes helping a lot of people continue to celebrate the "heritage and tradition" of owning slaves and working to destroy our nation. More Americans died in our Civil War than in any other war the US has participated in, and those statues were erected decades later (even in the 21st century) to celebrate the side that lost. Equivalent to erecting statues and flying flags to celebrate Germany's role in WWII and the holocaust.
Thank you. You are absolutely right. It seems like many are in a hurry to erase the past rather than do something to change our future. It won't make any of it go away. God bless you!
I obviously agree, but how can we not fully understand why it's come to this? People have been trying for many decades to engage with governments, police, authorities and the system for change and have consistently been met with disinterest and even scorn. Some police officers, politicians and other legal authorities have been found to be blatant, vile murderers and helping try to cover for those murderers and racists. All that changed was some people happened to manage to catch it all on video and instantly share it with the world and also so many people are in lockdown with more time to think and observe the systems they live under. Action was inevitable, and the constant suppression and dismissal of peaceful, just causes for decades by authorities and the system was just asking for aggressive outbursts. Again, I don't support any vandalism but if we look at the whole thing we can fully understand it. I also actually think the aggressive acts that have come from this have been extremely tame, and also there are many groups trying to further sully the just cause by carrying out acts of destruction which actually are not by any BLM demonstrators. I find most people seem far more interested in having some big, firm opinion and wanting to belong to some group and ideology than of actually facing and dealing with the vastly complex and humbling reality of it all.

Queen has never been drawn into political debate, and that i admire. AND what i admire more in this video than anything, is that you said so subtley and eloquently where you stand. I have three grandchildren. My daughter is a teacher who taught via computer the last months of school. I do appreciate you coming on You Tube and sharing your thoughts. Time to write them down for the next generation. I hope you get to feeling better soon. I totally understand every medical issue you have been thru.
Well said! We are living in dangerous times. Mans inhumanity towards man is becoming acceptable in some disturbing way. At times I feel that there are too few decent people left. You restore my faith in humanity overcoming the darkness that lives in so many hearts. We must be unafraid to speak to one another, learn to reach out and inspire others to be better. Teach those who hate to start seeing the good that life has in store and that love is better than hate. If we only turn one person each and hope that they in turn reach one, then I will have hope. Now about music!
I'm a black man from Arkansas. I've been very active in the police brutality protests in my city, and I am an unapologetic supporter of BLM. However, I think Brian has a very valid point. As painful as it is for many of us, we should not try to change history. We should, instead, use the mistakes of our forefathers as a model of what NOT to do in today's world. Thanks for speaking your truth, Brian!

And, we can read between the lines about what you think. Very diplomatic and, as ever, gracious. Equality for all. And, keep on keeping on! Get well and rest. Please keep looking after yourself rather than feeling 'The pressure' to give a message to your fans. Love Ed x
Factually true. The crimes of the past must be recorded so that our children may be educated.
Well said.! This should be written somewhere for all to see. It’s a perfect summary of learn from the past and don’t repeat it.
Beautiful truthful words from a beautiful human being with a golden heart.
God bless you, Brian. Brilliance in words just as in music. And thank you for recording long before I ever picked up my first guitar. I attribute the best years of my live playing and spending time in tour buses hauling a trailer of amps and gear. You have always been an inspiration!
Except a few,no one living today has been thru what we are experiencing now. I am your age and a retired RN.
I live in Florida. My son is in the Air Force. My son-in-law is a policeman. I have three grandchildren. My daughter is a teacher who taught via computer the last months of school.
I do appreciate you coming on You Tube and sharing your thoughts. Time to write them down for the next generation. I hope you get to feeling
better soon.
Well, you just take all the wind out of my sails, ol' bud.
That's a great & profound point, Brian May.
We all must remember to learn.
You said it right whitout the past we can’t work on a better future , we have to learn from our mishaps/mistakes, but for that we have to keep the past to look what we did wrong to get en keep it wright , so statues need extra plaques to put them in perspective , thank you Brain / Mr May for youre comment on the matter , God bless you too
Perfectly well spoken Dr. Brian May. Free speech is not just for a select few, it is for all, even those whose opinions make your blood boil. “I may not agree with what you say but i’ll fight to the death for your right to say it”. You were right with your opinion and don’t worry, if anyone tries to knock you down i guarantee there’ll be a legion of us who would knock their asses out. Rock on 🤘
I absolutely agree. It’s also great to see you looking so well. You can’t destroy the past because it’s already gone and cannot be altered. We need to ensure the future is the best it can be for everyone.
because denying or trying to cover up the past makes us weak, but the thirst for revenge ... makes us even more insignificant, only a pinch of love, understanding and empathy would heal us of this great pandemic ... of ourselves ... Sometimes I would like to understand, the unintelligible! Hugs my Doc! 💞💞
Thank you! Your view and Reasons rekindle my will to work with Humanity and Care enough about those who DON"T. 🙏🏼❤️
What a lovely place the world would be when we would all be as wise, humble and friendly as Brian May. This is the one I share on my socials. I think it is safe to say Brian's heart truely survived the heart attack. God bless you Dr. May.

As usual, your words are such a great example of humble and accepting point of view that I wish that the world leaders would have..
We also need much more patience and acceptance to hear and respect other people opinions and to learn how to be more tolerant towards one another.
