From the moment Sally is brought back to the house in the original TCM to the shot of Leatherface swinging his chainsaw around in anger during the sunrise, there is NO movie that has ever drove me more insane. Between the screams, the "music" (which is really just a collection of odd sounds), the villains doing their crazy shit, and of course.. the camerawork. All the cut aways and zoom ins, to weird angle shots. Those final 20 or so minutes will drive the viewer absolutely insane. Just showed the 74 film to a friend of mine and she had the exact same reaction to it. Once the credits appeared she had to pause and go outside for a bit. THAT is powerful movie making.
Seriously it's insane how well the scares hold up in that movie. I watched it twice, my first time like in 2019 and the next time in 2021 and they scared me both times.
Texas Chainsaw 3D is pretty terrible, but I can enjoy it as a so bad it's good kind of movie. Plus Alexandra Daddario certainly helps make the movie more watchable, lol.
Great review and please do more in this format. I know you have already started to do Friday the 13th, this format is just great for movies with a ton of sequels/prequels. Nightmare, Friday the 13th, Halloween, would all be great. Even take it to Sci-Fi and do all the Star Trek movies with Matei and Ryan. Thanks for the content
12:14 Drayton Sawyer even says "You don't want to go messing around other folks property. If some folks don't like it they don't mind showing ya" because he knew the Hsrdesty granddaD's house was near his and that Leatherface would panic and kill strangers.
In 1995, a theater near me was, by chance, one of the few locations that showed The Return of the Texas Chainsaw Massacre for about a minute before it sat on a shelf for two years and got released as 'Next Generation".. I wish it were a better movie so I could take more pride in catching that blink-and-you'll-miss-it theatrical run.
The Texas Chainsaw Massacre franchise is the perfect set of movies for Thanksgiving. Think about it: they're movies about a family sitting down for a nice meal... with guests:)
The Bryanston Company that released this film was run by Louis "Butchie" Peraino who was a member of the Colombo Family from New York. It's true that for three years after The Texas Chainsaw Massacre was originally released Tobe Hooper and the rest of the crew and cast were still trying to fight for their fair share in court. It's a really jacked up story. A quick IMDbsearch of Louis Peranio will reveal what kind of movies he "put out" before and after.
Quite a neat featurette on the Blu-ray release that Joe mentions is one where Ron Bozman, who was the film's production supervisor and would go on to help produce a lot of big films like Silence of the Lambs, talked about meeting Peranio in his office in new York city and he described it as a scene from The Godfather come to life. 2 big enforcers by his side and attempting to intimidate Bozman out of a lawsuit.
I'm with Tony on Texas Chainsaw 3D, Alexandra Daddario is smoking HOTT plus I only saw the remake with Jessica Biel (another hottie) and the original. However I did like Texas Chainsaw 2 Dennis Hopper was freaking awesome.
I would have to say Leatherface, Texas Chainsaw 3D, and TCM The Beginning would have to be the worst ones. I love part 2 more so than the original. Part 3 and The Next Generation are weird but fun to watch.
Tony, Sean, and Joe are talking about the Texas Chainsaw Massacre movies at HACK THE SAWYER. Meanwhile, Crystal, Johanna, & Kieran are running from Leatherface Justin with his Gengar Chainsaw.
I just noticed in the recent years people have been saying Scream is "BASED ON" the Gainesville Ripper murder case... they are jumping the "based on true events" bandwagon as well..... When in reality it's a super lose "inspiration" of a killer doing a home invasion.... Nothing beyond that....
TCM: The Next Generation is my favorite of the bad ones. Its so absurd and fun to see a couple future A-listers go all in on something they would probably be so embarrassed about now.
Surprisingly, looking at interviews with the two leads about it, they seem to have a bit of a soft spot for it. I’d recommend checking some of them out if you want to see two A-Listers reflect on their early days.
45:02 WE was the cook's name in the original but it was changed to Drayton in 2. In the 3rd film's continuity he took the blame for the murders both before and in the 1st one, was executed for them and the police assumed Leatherface was just a split personality of WE'S that took control when he wore people's faces.
Me too. That and it’s prequel are my favorites in the franchise. I wish the sequel they had planned wasn’t canceled. But it would’ve been hard to do since Erin chopped off one of Leatherface’s arms and so we would’ve seen him struggle in his 70s trying to use a chainsaw.
Hi Tony, enjoyed the review as always. For me my worst 3 TCM movies are as follows: TCM: The Next Generation, Leatherface (2017) and TCM 2. I've never liked TCM 2 and I will admit I like Leatherface: TCM III lol. I even have both workprints and raw dallies bootleg dvd-r's for Leatherface: TCM III.
I think that part 3 is the worst because it was generic. I've always thought that Grandma in part 2 was dead and Choptop's reaction "You killed her!" was just him being insane.
The filming locations say alot... ironically the one's all filmed in Texas are all close to Austin! The Texas Chainsaw Massacre (1974) - Round Rock, Texas, Texas Chainsaw Massacre II (1986) - Prairie Dell, Texas, Leatherface; Texas Chainsaw III 1990) - Valencia, California, Return of the Texas Chainsaw Massacre (1995) - Pflugerville, Texas, Texas Chainsaw Massacre (2003) & Texas Chainsaw Massacre; The Beginning (2013) - Granger, Texas (the house) and Walburg, Texas (the slaughter house), Texas Chainsaw 3D (2013) - Mansfield, Minden and Shreveport, Louisana, Leatherface (2017) and The Texas Chainsaw Massacre (2022) - Bulgaria !!!
Just so you know, The Next Generation released theatrically on September 22nd, 1995. The reason it says 1997 on the VHS is because that’s when it was released on home video.
Guy I went out with to see the remake prequel was SO UPSET about Leatherface just showing up. “How did he get there? HOW!” I just laughed and said “god put him there to kill that woman for our entertainment.”
I have a vhs copy of Return of the TCM that came from a japanese LD. I got it back in the late 90s. The only real difference is the beginning which shows that Rene Zellweger's character was being badly abused by her stepdad. There may be a few other minor differences but that is the only one that I remember standing out. So the original cut should be a few minutes longer than The Next Generation.
The TCM franchise is almost completely made up of reboots and remakes - It's a mess. I love the first two, and 3 and Next Gen are guilty pleasures, but I pretty much hate the rest of them. Completely agree that I'd rather watch Next Generation than the Halloween Thorn trilogy. haha
I'm going with Leatherface from a few years ago myself. That film was so nothing I can barely remember it. At least all the other ones have SOMETHING memorable in them. And 2 is one of my favorite movies of all time.
@@kristiankapler1004 2 is awesome, but its kinda like evil dead 2. The first is horror and the second is more comedic...except TCM2 is like a acid trip compared to evil dead 2. (In a good way) Dennis hopper duel wielding chainsawzzz fuck yeah
''Texas Chainsaw Massacre: The Next Generation'' definitely! And the movie (Deranged: Confessions of a Necrophile) 1974. Was released right about the same time as the original Texas Chainsaw Massacre'', which is why the film, kind of faded into obscurity. ''Deranged'' is still a good movie. And is one of ''Roberts Blossom's'' best performances.
I hate Texas Chainsaw 3D, hell I hate all the TCM movies past 2, although I do have a soft spot for TNG, but I unironically love that "do your thing, cuz" line and I love how salty it makes everybody even more 🤣
I completely agree with everything you said. "Do your thing, cuz" would not be out of place in TCM 2, but the context and how mad it makes people is so hilarious. It is a similar reason to why I like Busta Rhymes in Halloween Resurrection.
My wife is still scared after watching the 2003 version. All I have to do is say “Texas chainsaw massacre” and she will not be able to sleep… it’s hilarious.
Texas Chainsaw Massacre 2022 is an atrocious piece of garbage. As bad as 3D is, it still gave us that awesome opening scene, and it did give us Alex Daddario to look at which is always appreciated. Even The Next Generation gave us Matthew McConaughey's brilliantly unhinged performance. TCM 2022 has nothing redeemable about it. Nothing at all.
My Favorite is The Texas Chainsaw Massacre 1974 The Texas Chainsaw Massacre 2 And The Texas Chainsaw Massacre 2003 Remake The Texas Chainsaw Massacre: The Beginning 2006 Remake Prequel My Least favorite is The Texas Chainsaw Massacre 3
There is shit that happens in real life that you've never heard of that make TCM seem like an episode of telletubbies. Another great film in this genre is Nothing But Trouble, a comic take on similar themes. Also, The House that Jack Built.
I liked the teaser trailer for 3. Besides it had Vigo Mortensen and Ken Foree. Any chance of the original making it to 4K bluray? Favorite line from the TCM, " Look what your brother did to the door!"
1:02:08 He wasn't wrong. I watched the remake's prequel and then the 2003 film and I did end up liking it. They're my favorites in the franchise. Don't get me wrong, there were stuff in the original film that did better and I agree that the remake does have its problems. But we can all agree that the prequel to the remake was a way better origin story than Leatherface 2017. That 2017 prequel truly is the worst of the franchise because it did not feel like a Texas Chainsaw film.
In Texas Chainsaw 3D, when that one cop with the camera phone gets hit in the back over and over, the noise he made used to scare me. But since then, not anymore, because thanks to Sir Christopher Lee, I know that in REALITY, you can't MAKE that sound during a backstabbing because the wind is knocked out of you. You ain't screaming if you just got hit in the back with a weighted object hard enough to split the skin. I can't even yell when I fall over.
The wolf creek show and movies are so good. And I’ve met John Jarratt twice at conventions in Melbourne Australia. His a really nice dude who let us take a photo with him and get an autograph.
Texas Chainsaw 3D Set between lets say 20 to FOURTHY years after the original. Heather is in her 20s, bit then the stupid cop used a cellphone and i was oh, whatever... Or, its in the present (2013) and Heather is 39 but kept her shape so great she blends with young adults like a glove.
Cool review guys, nothing beats the original, so many re-makes of a lot of films these days, because basically Hollywood ran out of ideas and milking existing IP's.. the original was great, it didn't need CG or high quality silicon resin for effects, it just knew how to draw you into the story. Resident Evil 7 on the PS4 basically ripped off the original movie, as it follows the cannibal Baker family with basically all the same personas and story as the film and a clone leather face with the chainsaw etc too, you should check it out, it is completely different and unlike other Resident Evil games and a FPS with an 80s horror movie feel to it.
The original was so bleak and simple and of its time that after 30 years of horror icons movies its hard to think you could capture the same lightning in a bottle.... remaking it seemed pointless....they tried something and it worked but it's nothing that new...it made a scary premise way less interesting
1:45:37 ~ 1:45:41 caught me off-guard lol Texas Chainsaw Massacre is reall not a good franchise. It is like wrong turn. Can be mindless fun, but nothing to write home about. That includes the originals to me. It was never my thing... but still, this review was pretty cool
I was just starting to eat a sandwich when they started talking about Chip Top, then I promptly wrapped it up after one bite for later. This is my favorite hack the movies I've seen yet.
TCM is one of my favorite horror franchises, but they gotta come up with something different. I'm thinking maybe do a Grandpa Sawyer origin/prequel movie or maybe one of Tobe's ideas from the 80's. Also they need to release the unreleased All American Massacre (2000) so we can get more Bill Moseley as Chop Top. Awesome episode!
Um, Tony? I don't think you have all the Ed Gein facts. He literally did everything you saw in The Texas Chan Saw Massacre from 1974 but without the family dynamic. It wasn't just a skin lamp, it was him eating women's flesh and wearing their skin as a costume around his house. And Leatherface's house was really decorated the way Ed's house was. Take the 4 members of the original TCM family and make one person out of them and you have Ed Gein in real life.
FIRST THING MORGAN MUMBLED: "please ignore the colorful pinata filled with marijuana you may just happen to come across, because it played no part whatsoever in the (here's the part he mumbled) demise of this unfortunate young woman."
Texas Chainsaw Massacre 3 is hands down, the finest horror movie ever made. That's why its the template for all the others, especially the 2003 remake. You say bored, watching it on the small screen and have no idea of the cinematic masterpiece you missed. Never in cinematic history has a film ever captured the sense of the walls closing in on you with such frantic and harrowing resolve. From the very beginning, when they run over the armadillo, they're in the trap. They don't know it, but the viewer does, courtesy of the earring on the armadillo. Because of the era in which it was made, they did go for a little slapstick humor, but the 2003 and 2006 movies have made me realize that might be a benefit. Kate Hodge is the first actress in horror to rival Adrienne King's performance in Friday the 13th. She is the best final girl of the franchise. Of most franchises. But that's why she got her own TV show. I'm so sorry you didn't get to have the experience of seeing it on the big screen, before all the movies that follow its pattern. You have no idea what you're missing. It's absolutely the best of the best. The traps are horrifying, the sand bag trap is pure adrenaline. It is the only horror film in history that is so good it doesn't need gore. Which is saying something. Im so sorry you didn't get to experience the real film in the proper environment. It's one of the top 5 greatest horror films of all time. Surpasses all the screams, all the nightmare on elm streets, all the Halloweens. Leatherface 90 is the most riveting, nonstop thrill on film. Period. 2003 wasn't a remake of the original, it was a remake of part 3 with a bigger budget. Most of the time, it works, but the film dwells too much in pain and the final chase isn't as fulfilling. With all the money behind it, it should have been as good as Leatherface, but it's just not somehow. You sat down with the wrong mindset. You obviously had already seen too many TCM films and you werent engaged at all. This was the first film of its kind. Those tropes had never been done. If you love horror films, Leatherface is hands down, one of the all time greats. I'm so sorry you didn't get to experience it the way I did. In the theatre, with only 1 and 2 in existence. You have no idea what you missed out on. I love horror. This is the very best of the very best. If you don't have that experience, it is absolutely your loss.
Texas Chainsaw Part 2 is the best, bar none. Leatherface: TCM3 was a victim of executive meddling, but has it's moments. "Next Generation" is... I don't even fucking know (Not that it's a bad thing), the remake I liked, "The Beginning" was awful, don't even get me started on "TC3D" and the "Leatherface" prequel... yeah, that kind of sucked too.
@@MutaScale Sorry, I was bit confused. But yeah TCM 2 is the best film aside from the original, and I'm not even the biggest fan of it. It still has the biting social commentary of the original, but in a more comedic direction, and still has some scary moments.
The only ones that mattered to me... 1974 The Texas Chainsaw Massacre An 2003 Remake.... (Both Part 1) Prequel of 2003 Remake (Part 2) 2006 The Texas Chainsaw Massacre The Beginning 2013 Texas Chainsaw 3D (Part 3) 2017 Leatherface (Part 4) The very original Beginning.... 2022 Texas Chainsaw Massacre (Part 5)
The remake has too many sub plots. The weed thing, Leatherface, the family, the FAKE family, Kemper's engagement ring, the cannibalism thing, them trying to get to a Skynyrd concert, the little boy who may or may not be a good guy depending on what you think of his makeshift TCM 2 underground lair, Erin Hardesty (Jessica Biel) is pregnant, it's just too fucking much.
I've only ever seen the original, and second along with the remake then that 3D one. Honestly I'm not a fan, but I can see the appeal. I however do get distracted by Alexandria Daddario. I thought she was the best thing in The Lightning Thief. Never saw San Andreas aka "The Rock vs The Hurricane". I also never saw the trailer for the new Texas Chainsaw cause I don't care.
"only in the last few years has the glamorizing of serial killers become a thing." Norman bates, Hannibal Lecter and Charles Manson are happy to hear your misconception
I always thought they missed a good chance to build on Leatherface as a character in Texas Chainsaw Massacre 2 when Stretch started talking to him later in the movie at the cave. It would've been really neat to see that version of Leatherface take off the mask and attempt a broken English conversation with her, humanize him a little, play with the trusting childish mentally disabled thing, have him give his broken perspective on the events of the last film and what happened in-between.
That’s a great idea and good examples but the more you humanize him the less scary he is and at the end of the day he’s still supposed to be the scariest part of the movie and it’s main horror icon. If we liked him and know who he really is underneath it’d lose all of its actual terror effect. It’ll still be gory of course but it won’t be scary anymore, humans have always been most afraid of one thing, the unknown.
I can deaf agree with that, but at this point, and that point too, Leatherface wasn’t unknown anymore. He was horrifying in the first but by the second he became more of a joke, kind of. I think the scene he painted could have made him even more creepy with the broken English aspect, maybe not the mask off though, cause I don’t agree EVER seeing what’s under leather faces mask.
@@snusemcgoose1001 CONSIDER THIS: Giving Leatherface a turn as a monster-turned-hero gives the rest of the family free reign to be even scarier than HE is because they no longer have their butcher on staff and now have to try to do what he used to themselves. After all, it was never really Leatherface, it was the family making him do it. And this whole thing I pieced together would depend on the second film being the complete end of it, by the way, no three or Next Gen. 2, then done. If done THAT way, my little plot I made up here would be so totally perfect. It would bring his "abused mentally handicapped person who's not really evil" thing to a proper close instead of doing what the 2022 movie did by basically making him Jason Voorhees. Besides, we already know he DOES talk in broken English when he explains to Drayton in part one what he did to the kids who "broke in" by babbling and pointing to where the bodies are. By the way, his explanation wouldn't make you LIKE him or even justify what he did, but it WOULD make you feel bad about how far gone he actually is and you would want him to die even more if anything just to put him and everyone else out of their misery. That would be the only way the moment would be effective. For whatever reason I also want him to remember it like a series of crayon drawings to imply he's still got the mind of a 6-year-old. Nobody ever seems to do things like that, they just reshoot old scenes with current actors. It would be both disturbing AND creative.
@@snusemcgoose1001 Plus, at this point, it's time to re-humanize him. Leatherface isn't Jason Voorhees, as I said, and it's stupid that he seems to survive pretty much everything when the whole point to him was to be as demented a killer as he could be without being supernatural and being grounded in reality. His last movie he got shot by multiple assault weapons multiple times, took a hit from his own chainsaw, drowned, and still survived to the end of the movie at the age of 75. He's not supposed to be immune to that stuff, he's supposed to be a normal if crazy human being who's still capable of taking the same damage WE are. He may NEED what I suggested, to be honest.
You guys are full of it! Leatherface Texas 3 is freaking awesome. It’s funny & dark. The cast is great even Tom Everette who plays Alfredo. It’s sooo good. Night and day better than that horrible Next Generation. The first 3 are the best.

Texas chainsaw might have 9 movies, but puppet master has enough movies to make a fort for your cat.
Great popcorn movies. But I prefer Demonic Toys
Yeah I think we can all agree that Texas 3D is only remembered because of Alexandra Daddario.
I agree, I think Dan's leatherface is really decent just set in a bad adaptation in my opinion.
The second movie was fun. But Alexandra daddario is the best final girl, for a couple of reasons.
You mean her eyes right?
@@marchingham then there are four reasons 😎
Texas Chainsaw 3D is pretty terrible, but I can enjoy it as a so bad it's good kind of movie. Plus Alexandra Daddario certainly helps make the movie more watchable, lol.

She’s definitely not sexy at all...
That’s really cool I didn’t know it had a short run before it was shelved
The famous Texas Chainsaw sound effect is a tuning fork being dragged down a tightened piano string.
Looking forward to this. Texas Chainsaw 3d might be the worst if it wasn't for Alexandra Daddario. I... I love her.

The Texas Chainsaw Massacre franchise is the perfect set of movies for Thanksgiving. Think about it: they're movies about a family sitting down for a nice meal... with guests:)
Anthology episodes are the best! It fits your long format perfectly
The 3D shots of the original film looked incredible in the theater. I'm so glad I saw it in the theater for just those clips alone.
The original was original..it started slashera basically...
@@razkable it didn’t.
Part 2 is great! I'm in the same boat. 2 is my favorite TCM. Due to the humor.
I agree.
There is no TCM movie called A New Beginning.
This was really dope. Gotta say I’m loving the movie dumpster guys, really my favorite guest hosts. Looking forward to more videos like this
Tony, Sean, and Joe are talking about the Texas Chainsaw Massacre movies at HACK THE SAWYER.
I'm 52 nowadays and I find the most recent Prequel "Leatherface 2017 one the very worst.
Yeah that movie is poopoo feces
He referred to SCOTT EASTWOOD as The Poor Man's CHRIS EVANS 🤣😅🤣😅
I absolutely love all those bad movies. Next generation is one of my favorites in the franchise its so ridiculous
It is a scientific fact that the worst Texas chainsaw movie is Texas chainsaw 3D
I just watched the remake. Jessica biel does the movie justice to the original.
Her chopping Leatherface’s arm off was something that Sally should’ve done in the 2022 Netflix film. They wasted that legacy character.
45:02 WE was the cook's name in the original but it was changed to Drayton in 2. In the 3rd film's continuity he took the blame for the murders both before and in the 1st one, was executed for them and the police assumed Leatherface was just a split personality of WE'S that took control when he wore people's faces.
Great job on covering TCM movies. I liked the 2003 remake lol
Me too. That and it’s prequel are my favorites in the franchise. I wish the sequel they had planned wasn’t canceled. But it would’ve been hard to do since Erin chopped off one of Leatherface’s arms and so we would’ve seen him struggle in his 70s trying to use a chainsaw.
@@ryanstauffer119the comic book continuation I believe Uncle Monty installs Tommy a hook to replace his arm. Interesting in my opinion.
Same here. Letherface in 2 was not the same troubled boy we new. 3 was better and the beautiful saw was great.
If you were caught with a large bag of weed in Texas in the 70s, you could go to prison for decades.

Completely agree that I'd rather watch Next Generation than the Halloween Thorn trilogy. haha
To me the best ones are: The Texas Chainsaw Massacre (1974) and The Texas Chainsaw Massacre (2003).
I'm going with Leatherface from a few years ago myself. That film was so nothing I can barely remember it. At least all the other ones have SOMETHING memorable in them. And 2 is one of my favorite movies of all time.
1 and 2 plus remake are the only good one's in my opinion.

That's mad I totally forgot about Deranged. I had a VHS copy but all the best stuff was cut out.
Dude, I totally get it lol Andrew B. is really intimidating. He's a big fella 😆😆🪚

Favorite line from the TCM,
" Look what your brother did to the door!"
Chainsaw 2 is the best film of the franchise in my opinion.
I loved Wolf Creek 1 , 2 and the Show. The show was and is a precursor to all these franchises nowadays going the same routes.
My family is from Texas. There is a family reunion that happens, but no one from Washington wants to go because of these movies……..
Texas Chainsaw 3D

As a huge fan of TCM I thought the remake was done well considering there ain't much to work off of. Everything after that sucked
The original was so bleak and simple and of its time that after 30 years of horror icons movies its hard to think you could capture the same lightning in a bottle.... remaking it seemed pointless....they tried something and it worked but it's nothing that new...it made a scary premise way less interesting
You guys said "family" so many times I thought I was watching a review for The Fast and the Furious here.

Texas Chainsaw Massacre is reall not a good franchise.
I'll tell you what's the best....Alien 3!!!
I support Tony's verdict in this. I don't understand the intense hate for Texas Chainsaw 3D, that's one where for me it's so bad it's good.

Honestly the appeal is that they are well done horror films that are scary lol.

"only in the last few years has the glamorizing of serial killers become a thing." Norman bates, Hannibal Lecter and Charles Manson are happy to hear your misconception
The 2000s were a serious decade for almost every genre lol.
I feel like the movie would have actually been more interesting if Gunner Hansen played the role.
