- Amazon Prime Video is one of the bigger on-demand streaming services in the market. It aggregates a lot of content, and they’re spending lots of money on original content, but is it worth the subscription cost?
Prime Video has a lot going for it. It has a large library of older movies, but pales in comparison to Netfix or other streaming services.
Despite investing in original content and getting into sports, the service may not measure up for many cord-cuttters.
Watch our Amazon Prime Video review to get our thoughts on whether or not the service is worth the cost.

How do you compare Prime Video to other services?
I agree with your conclusion. I am a Prime member and the savings on shipping costs totally justify that membership. I do watch some things on Prime Video, but not enough to pay for it on its own.
We're pretty much the same way. We watch things on it here and there, but nowhere near enough to justify the price as a standalone option.
I purchased and use Amazon Prime shipping all the time and really like their service and items get to me very quickly. So along with that I also do their Prime streaming videos. Allot of their videos are free in Prime member, but some we still have to pay extra for in order to watch them. Like you said, I probably wouldn't buy Prime just for the videos. Thanks for the video.
Yea, we use the free shipping with Prime for too much probably. :)
The video catalog needs beefed up. I do have amazon for $14.99/month. Worth it for the 2 day shipping/free shipping. I would like to see an updated video on paramount+. Personally i think Paramount + is a sleeper in the streamer world. I enjoy it
That it does. We think they'll get there, but who knows what the quality will be like. We'll add that to our list of ideas. We just finished a three month special of it for $2/month and were relatively happy with it. They regularly offer deals, which we like.
Great video, totally agree Prime video is a great prime member benefit but on its own it’s truly lacking!
Thanks! Yea, on its own it's a disappointment. They're certainly investing in content. If they're able to get Sunday Ticket, or some other live sports, that would help them a good bit.
I'm a Prime video customer only which i get as part of my tv providers bundle with Britbox and BT Sports .I used to be a full prime member but i have cut down on a lot of purchases i used to make with Amazon so for me this works very well plus i get a dicount on my internet price of £6.99 every month which covers the cost of Prime or Britbox.
I one of my favorite shows is an Amazon Original, but that’s really it.
I REALLY liked Reacher.
We've been meaning to watch Reacher.
Man in the High Castle is my favorite Amazon original.
@@derekvallem We really liked the first season or two of Man in the High Castle. It got a bit too away from how it started towards the end, in our opinion.
Thanks for the review. I agree with you. This is one of my least used apps but my wife uses the free shipping enough to make it worth it for us. I do like the cast information feature but find it annoying when I find something to watch, only to discover there’s an extra charge to watch it. I wouldn’t get it as a stand alone app.
We've run into that issue as well. We find something we want to watch only to find out there's a cost to get it. Definitely can be frustrating.
👏Thank you for another excellent video! I don’t recall you discussing Prime Music. Is it included with a stand alone Prime Video membership? If so, it’s a substantial added value.
We very briefly mentioned Prime Music but didn't focus on it. That said, excellent point. :) If that's something you'd want it can be a solid added value. It does come included in the cost.
@@FrugalRules Thank you!:)
I have amazon prime for shipping convenience so I use prime video. I consider it a bonus that's it. I did watch wheel of time carnival Rowe and will check out Lord of the rings later.
I have the Prime Video subscription only, and I'm basically satisfied, but they've taken most of their ad-free programming that I like and put it on AD-SUPPORTED Freevee, which has a stand alone app too.
This has probably kept their price down SO FAR, but I think they'll raise the price before long, just like all of the other services, or maybe they'll create an ad-free tier.
Also, I'm not particularly impressed with their Video and sound quality, but it's not horrible.
Good point on Freevee. Agreed on the likely price increase at some point down the road. They're spending lots on content, and if they do end up being successful in getting NFL Sunday Ticket, they'll be able to justify a price increase at some point.
I took the 30 day trial and got a few things shipped for free, that is until I purchased a countertop ice maker and had it shipped to my best friend for his wedding. They emailed me that the item had been shipped a few days after I ordered it so I started tracking it on UPS. Ice maker never left the Amazon warehouse. But customer service swears up and down to me they shipped it. UPS says we never got the item. After going around and around with Amazon 5 days after the delivery date had passed then they emailed me that I can request a refund. Upon trying to get my refund they stalled and stalled on it and so the money finally went back in my bank about 10 days after the delivery date. Needless to say I will never buy another product from Amazon. I bought the same ice maker a few dollars cheaper at Walmart and they shipped it right to my friend's house from the same state. He got the item 5 days after I ordered it. As far as the prime part, I didn't use it enough to justify subscribing after my 30 days trial. No thank you to Prime. Have a great day people, happy streaming.
Gah, can totally get why you'd never want to deal with Amazon after an experience like that. :)
Wow u guys in the states are paying more than the U.K. - we are only £79 for the year
your money is worth more than ours I'm American
I hate how you have sub-channels that you must subscribe to, I'd rather pay and get everything included without further paywalls.
I had it for a month after purchasing the $1499 a month membership. Because the gift card would not pay for the streaming service without using a credit card. I had paid for the service but when I attempt to watch a movie on my Android phone it keeps directing me to in app purchase. Even after I paid for it to begin with. No movies no books. I will never deal with them again.
Thank you for your great review, and taking the time to get ALL the info!!!!
Just my two cents.................
How you watch, or what you watch on (cell, browser, Roku, smart tv, ect), should be one of the fist things when deciding between the two. Because I have both Netflix and Prime, and only watch through a smart tv, my preference is Prime. Although Netflix through a browser has digital sound, Prime does not. But on a smart tv, the user interface/controls with Prime are much better. Netflix still only has one ff- rew, speed. In 2022? One speed? Lol How many times do they incorrectly start me at the beginning of an episode that I'm actually towards the end of, to only make me hold the darn ff button for 73hrs, to get to the end? Ughhh No thanks!!! Prime, now like Apple tv, has four speeds. You can go from the beginning of a movie to the end, in 5 seconds flat.
Prime also has loads of 4k material that is only available to you from Netflix, if you have the most expensive tier. Also, many of the the channels that Prime allows you to get through them (Paramount ect) come in with Dolby Digital sound, where as on Paramount's app, it is only analog. Since I spent $7,000 on an audio system yrs ago, that is MAJOR plus for me.
Like you, I absolutely love the x-ray feature, that Prime has, and use it all the time. Although I never new why until you explained it. (imdb) So, thank you.
Sooooo, Yes, as of NOW Netflix has more options. But just like Netflix, Prime is growing,
and fast.
As of 7/10/22, watching through a Smart TV
Great input, thanks! Yep, agreed, Netflix has more content currently but Prime is putting a lot into content as well. If they're able to pull off getting Sunday Ticket that'd be a huge boon for them.
I LOOOVE prime video ..well i have AMAZON Prime for years , thats comes with it ...lately got a really good series & movies ...some of the movies other services dont carry it .really good collection..i lovin it 👍
Awesome, glad you like it!
In the last few days Amazon changed its music format. Now it is no longer possible to have it play specific songs that we request unless we subscribe to their extra-cost "unlimited" music service. I do not like this change. What do others think? Perhaps your RUclips videos can address this matter.
I have a question. I have prime video, and I use it on my roku. If I have prime video why are some movies still charging me $3.99 to rent them if I want to watch it.🤔 Can't figure out why if I have Prime video. Are those movies not free.(Jason Bourne movie)
I also do not see that row slider at the Top like yours in my app🤔
Not all videos on Prime Video are free. Many are, but they're typically older or less popular movies. On the row slider, they do change their row labels fairly regularly so it could be that.
Recently cancelled mine. I don't think I ordered enough from it or watch Amazon Prime Video at all. The Amazon music is not bad, but there are better options.
Agreed, the music isn't too shabby. But, by no means worth keeping it just for that alone.
I haven't gotten 2 day shipping with Prime in how long. Everything is coming through the mail or UPS, and taking forever, and I'm pissed. I won't be renewing the subscription when it runs out next year.
Sorry to hear that, and we would as well. Have you reached out to them to let them know and/or ask for a refund if they're not giving you the expedited shipping?
I'm a little confused. I have Amazon prime so i thought that means you get Amazon prime video for free? But i just saw that I'm being charged 8.99 for prime video too. What exactly do you get for free with Amazon prime membership?
Hm, yes, you do get Prime video free as a part of a Prime membership. We didn't know it was possible to sign up, and pay for both. Have you contacted them to clarify what they're charging you for?
@@FrugalRules Oh jeez i figured it out. I have Starz channel thru prime video which is 8.99 a month. 🤭🤭
@@mjrd1978 Got ya. Glad you got it figured out. :) If you're planning on sticking with them you might want to consider going directly through them as they have a limited time special of $3 for six months.
@@FrugalRules Thanks for the heads up, i will definitely look into that.
No, it has some good stuff but it is son hard to tell if your allowed to watch it and if your on a budget? no way, too many 3 glass of wine movies that you do not need, it is a good bait and switch scheme but not for me.
Good video. Thanks for doing this. I think the quality of Prime Video content has declined year over year over year. I used to watch prime a lot, now I rarely watch anything on prime because the content is weak.
We don't watch a ton on it either, if we're being honest. They're certainly investing a lot into it though. If HBO Max continues to ax content, that *could* benefit Prime Video more if content creators look for other options though.
I haven't gotten anything in 2 days for some time, it's much longer
I had Prime for a few months and cancelled it. I use Walmart a lot more. As for Prime Video, I personally hated it.
I don't like Prime video because they aren't up front about what your paying for. Instead they try to get you to either buy or rent movies and tv shows. I wish they'd just show us what we're paying for.
Is lionsgate included in prime video
From what we can tell, no it's not included.
I actually have subscribed to all like
Netflix
Prime video
HBO Max
Paramount plus
Peacock
Yt premium
Spotify premium
