What they don’t recount is the fact Mr Long was found by a public enquiry to have had no lawful justification to shoot and kill Mr Rodney, yet at the same time the officer was found not guilty of murder/manslaughter by a trial, which is wholly contradictory.
British policing is in crisis, bosses that dont back their staff, trial by media and a completely biased IOPC. Why anyone would join now is beyond me...... Very sad indeed.
The police hierarchy is too concerned with not offending the muslins - the rest (especially white English) are treated as if they are just collateral damage
Recruitment and retention is at an all time low, I can foresee the incomers wearing the uniform within 5 years. Remember, during the riots Starmer promised a "Standing Army to defeat the Right" ......
Government made it illegal for the most part to own guns here in the UK. The population isn't armed so the police have no reason to all be armed themselves apart from the armed response units that can deal with criminals using guns or knifes, normal police have taser. That's just my opinion
What a man. What an interview. Brilliant Tony. Some of these woke Retired Senior Officers interviewed on such sites should take note of your comments. They haven't a clue.
Very measured and thoughtful answers to some difficult questions Tony. I particularly liked your explanation of why Taser isn’t always the answer. I firmly believe (as an ex unarmed officer for most of my 45 year service) that the time has come for every officer to have a firearm (and taser) as the less lethal option.
That’s not what anyone is saying. He shot an armed man going to commit a violent crime and had a honestly held belief his life was in imminent danger, if these circumstances apply then a police officer should not be prosecuted.
@@nothingtoseehere7903 The ex-officer shot a man who was seat belted in the back of his head 8 times. Anyone standing on the other side of the vehicle like his fellow officers could have been shot dead by him or any innocent bystander. What he did was reckless and shows the irresponsibility and psychotic notion that they should be praised and get medals for not allowing the perpetrator the chance to give up. Harry Stanley a Scottish man who's drinking buddies thought that they would have a laugh at by calling the police and saying an Irish accent man was walking down the street in London with and large gun in a bag was shot in the back by 2 Armed officers. Same thing they didn't give him any chance probably just said armed police and then shot him dead. Neither faced criminal charges or disciplinary action for the cold blooded murder of an unarmed man.
thing is its not just in the police force this type of thing happens it happens in the NHS staff face suspension for interventions protecting themselves & staff/patients
Tax payers who past an exam should also be able to have and carry. So should the police. The criminals already have guns why should the only people that don’t have them be the ones who follow the rules, pay taxes, and are easiest to brutalise with least rights.
It amasses me the amount of taxpayers money spent on police protection teams, and yet a few years ago one man in the to pale mail pulled out a starter pistol and a few feet away from the quenn fired 6 blank rounds at the queen and got arrested. The protection team failed. Jf kenndy was surrounded by protection teams. Got shot protection team failed. There have been a few failed protection tesm. In my opinion, waste of taxpayers' money.
All Police should have access to Firearms, but there Firearms should be secure in their Vehicles and they would have to get clearence to access them, I think this is how it works in Norway.
Thank goodness we can hear the officers position. It’s disgraceful the way our police are treated for doing their job of protecting us we need changes. Criminals treated as martyrs
Anthony Long said the brain does go into survival mode but when Chris Kaba was shot in the head the brain was destroyed. I do not know his case I wonder what happens to the driver?
Police with guns is bad idea. There are enough problems and issues in the police force and with members of the police force, fix those issues instead and dont arm a broken police force.
"Something needs to change"....I agree, a start would be psychometric assessments of candidates, including their integrity and a revaluation of culture, command on every level and operational procedures. Some of which look positively dangerous to the public and officers involved, London is not Iraq, the danger from a suspect is minimal Looking at previous controversial incidents I would say the chances of an officer shooting another officer via a negligent discharge or poor operational procedures are significant.
If officer should be armed to protect themselves then members of the public should also be armed to protect themselves - when seconds matter the police are minutes away as the Americans say (if they even bother to show up nowadays). The main conclusion that I derived from this interview is that this man didn’t really have the correct mental fortitude to have been armed in the first place and it is a miracle that he didn’t manage to murder someone: he’s making a sob story out of the fact that the justice system managed to work in his favour. He wants to speak about the situation in Europe but what about the situation in Ireland: the unarmed Garda replaced the armed Royal Irish Constabulary because the Irish people consented to being policed by the Garda while they didn’t consent to the RIC previously. The presence of the armed RUC in Northern Ireland did nothing to deter the armed violence of either Republicans and Unionists as evidenced by the fact that the military had to go in to sort out the mess that the RUC helped create. The only thing routinely armed police would bring is confirmation of Britain’s descent into the third world. Perhaps his comment on the lack of policing by consent in our major cities hinted towards this given the increasing majority of our city’s inhabitants not leaving behind their third world mindset and habits…
Sorry I disagree, the police where entirely in control of the traffic stop to arrest Kaba and because of the lack of training and tactical planning and deployment of proper vehicles and use of non lethal means first to apprehend him, resulted in cold blooded murder on the streets of the UK. The police where in control of how and when to act and they chose to act irresponsibly which resulted in one officer being judge and executioner instead of the courts. The police should not be above the law and more subject to discipline when a violation occurs. If more officers want to not carry firearms great. I feel much safer knowing that fewer gun crazy narcissistic police hiding behind the colour of the uniform and badge are at large to possibly shoot me or one of my friends or family members as an innocent bystander whilst trying to apprehend someone using unethical tactics bad training and the notion that they are above the law...
They did what they had to do. Kaba thought he was a gangsta. Drugs guns killing other people. Why is he even being portrayed as a race victim. Unbelievable. Support this country and its law enforcers.
Why cant these expert marksmen aim for the legs arms shoulder etc….after all they are meant to be able to shoot a 2p coin from 100 metres ..they always seem to aim for the head…..sometimes appears overkill …excuse the pun
This is a fantastic interview with someone who has a true inside understanding of the difficulties that faces armed officers on a regular basis.
I was a Copper from same era as this Guy, every word he speaks is true. Tremendously impressive character , riveting interviw
No respect for the police. They're the thieftakers. Puppets for the rich

Wise words, indeed. 👍🏻

100% agree! Very sad and worrying. Who the hell is running the police force?

One of the best interviews on this subject ever recorded. Bravo all involved and hats off to Tony 👏👏👏
All.private citizens should have the right to take up arms
ABSOLUTELY
In Australia all our police are armed, as they should be, its normal, what use is an unarmed copper?
They do their job effectively enough without a gun. 99.9% of police work doesn’t involve armed people.
@@josephfoulger9628 but in England we live in different times. Our country is now very dangerous - a dumping ground for the third world

We fail our police if we send them out to work unarmed.

Why would I as a UK Police Officer want a gun to defend myself if I will be accused of murder when I do so?
Not a chance.
Totally agree, the military and police who carry guns, should not be charged for carrying out their duties.
So long as it’s absolutely clear they were.
I have no respect for the police in this country.
@@E_Rex_Sean Why's that?
Outstanding interview. Long overdue. In my 30 years as as cop I would never have carried a gun. So glad there are those who are willing to do so.
Bring back Henden and police academies, we need professional trained police force.
Do they not exist anymore and why not?
Not all police officers should be officers so no not all police officers should carry guns imo

Great interview.
21:06 something was cut off, when he was about to say something.
Fantastic open discussion ! Well explained . what a job .
Good Grief - did he say only 2500 armed officers?! As an American, my brain imploded.
What side are these judges on, not the public's.
Are they not listening to the communities?
So police should have guns and be immune to prosecution.
I think the Taliban do that too.
We all have accountability for our actions - though play silly games expect silly prizes

His name is Tony Long, he has done many podcasts and interviews.
@Matt-Durham Thx 👊
There must be more legal protection for armed police officers
Agree most European countries the police carry guns
Why didnt the cops in manchester airport use their guns !?
Wow he shouldn't be allowed within 100 feet of a firearm
Why?
I went to Hendon, to do a Civilian Computer course!
Officers with guns are all volunteers....what is your point?
How other cant see any other person in the car

That’s a horrible idea we are not America, look at the state of the mass shootings there.
Most of the criminals have absolutely no access to firearms in the UK. And armed officers do patrol constantly.
agreed with everything he said tbh.

It is a similar thing with lorry drivers, automatic arrest when that lorry is involved in an accident, irrespective of fault?
Even cops like Couzens?
