God what a beautiful song. The opening line... "Its knowing that your door is always open and your path is free to walk." For anyone who has ever loved another person, you will know what those words mean. Bless you Glen Campbell.
Again...and unexpectedly...I am moved by Davids words on Glens work.
davidhertzberg Beautiful.
Beautiful song. He sings it so perfectly. And yes, those lyrics are amazing. I really love the version where Tom Hartman And Glen sing together on his show. Prob my fav one.
Bless John Hartford who wrote this song.
This song makes me think of my dad he plays and sings this song it means alot to me
What I love is that you can understand every word he's singing.
I love that too.
Glen was a master of wordy songs his diction was amazing and he always had the feeling of the emotion of the lyrics in his voice and his pickin' of the guitar. He was a 9 level singer and a 10 level guitar player. Rare most singers play as a novelty or a image.Elvis great voice only maybe a simple three chord route player on guitar.
Amen!!!!!You don’t have to listen to it 100 times to figure out what they’re saying. Right on
Think that is why people love some of his songs, he can sing pretty, which is hard to do.
not to be underrated in the last half-century of musical and song development, that's for sure!
One of the greatest guitarist of all time
A lot of greatest guitarists lists forget to mention him.
Actually, the Greatest, at least in my mind.
When Eddie Van Halen asks for a lesson you know how great he was
Alice cooper who was his golf buddy once said that Eddie Van Halen asked Alice if he could get him some lessons from Glenn. True story
Songs like "Gentle On My Mind" remind me of great times when my hair was jet black and my heart was hitting on all eight cylinders. My hair has turned white, five heart attacks but thank God, I am still around to enjoy music like this. Oct 26/2014.
God bless you Oscar!
God bless you
Beautiful . Hope you’re still listening ❤️❤️
Oscar, I hope you are still enjoying some good ole Glen songs.
I am moved by what you said. God gives us music and Glen Campbell through the good and rough passage of life. God bless you with peace and good health. 🙏🙏🙏💐💐💐
One of the most beautiful songs ever.
I agree...it is one of the most beautiful. Did you know that John Hartford, the songwriter, wrote this song in about 15 minutes? Incredible! Thanks for your comment.
BringBackMyYesterday There is a video of Glen and John playing on a front porch of a home down in Mississippi. A masterpiece of a video. Thanks for posting this one.
botifigus I believe I have seen the video you are referring to, but I have never been able to locate a copy of the entire show on VHS or DVD. Such a shame because, as you posted, it is a masterpiece of a video filmed on location!
For others who may like to see this video of Glen and John playing in Mississippi, here is the original video link on RUclips: ruclips.net/video/m_heX9IawYE/видео.html Others have bootlegged it, but the quality remains the same. Such a shame!
I'm a feminist and I LOVE the lyrics...always have...This song reminds me of my late father....and alot of myself...:)
Glen Campbell was one of a kind. He captured everybody’s attention by his unique talent. May he Rest In Peace. His music will be everlasting!
In 1984 I Saw him and his young wife and baby at the Nashville airport. I stood back and gave them the space/respect they deserved. One of my prouder moments.
I'm 66 now, and think, they just don't make artists, music, and people like this anymore. Feel sorry for today's young people, they will never experience clean and beautiful performers such as Glen, it just makes me soooooooooooooo sad, anyone has a time machine to take me back to the 50's and 60's ???????????
Man, It doesn't get better than this. Real talent.
You're young and healthy again now, Glen, and I know you're sweetly singing with the angels. Thank you for your music; through it you'll live on forever. RIP, and prayers for your loved ones.
In a more peaceful time... in America, we would watch his T.V. show on Sunday nite. I still like his music 50 years later. Thanks Glenn.
" realville resident" late 60’s peaceful?
I love glenn cambell
Peaceful Song? Most certainly. Peaceful time? Not so much
@@radar0412 Yeah. 1967-68 were very tumultuous times in the US.
When did Glen pass away ? I thought he was still alive, he had a great 👍 Show my Mom and Dad liked his show also.
Who needs a recording studio when you sound this good.
Yes. The one and only Glen Campbell. What a song! RIP Mr. Campbell.
Hello dear how are you doing over there ?
Too date, this is his best live version I have listened to. It's fast 'up' tempo as he always said it should be but he sings across the music bars with ease and added space. Such poignant lyrics sung with pure Country Soul
Today, Glen Campbell passed away a year ago- August 8, 2017. God bless him and his family.
Man, we had some great music back then . Sad to see what passes for music today .
RIP Glen. Today the entertainment world lost a true legend! Glen Campbell did it all. He sang, played guitar, had a hit tv show, acted in Hollywood movies, just a great personality and star.
In the 70s I was with my mom and dad in the front few rows at a concert at a horse race track (Arlington Park in IL) seeing Mr. Campbell singing this song when I was about 7 years old. I remember it vividly.I am 52 now and play and sing this song every day and will until my last day on this planet
Thank You Glen, your music will always be in the back-roads by the rivers of my memory forever gentle on my mind.
+"Billion Dollar" Hearn God Bless Glen and his family...
Yes!
copy that
Always loved this guy. I remember in his later years, he had some public displays that were not so pleasant. It came from a place of great pain. No matter I still loved him. There was always a sense of joy that he wanted to impart through his art. For that I will always be thankful…
I’m 55, one of my favorite songs without question. Talent that is timeless. Thanks Glen!!
I remember listening to the car radio when this song came on. My heart leaped w/joy & I turned up the volume. Way up. Love Glen's rendition of this classic. TY for the musical legacy you left us, Glen. We loved you then, we love you now & you're sorely missed.
☘💚🌱
How could anyone dislike this classic!
This song is just beautiful...it's got that rare magic to it and I think it absolutely lives up to the title. It has this odd soothing power to it--no matter how frazzled or upset or angry I am, this song seems to calm me down and give me a bit of peace.
We played this song at my Grandads funeral, several years ago and it still cracks me up every time I hear it. No other rendition comes close to Glens.
I love Glen Campbell. It breaks my heart to know that he's can't remember himself any longer, but thanks to people like you -- we can keep him forever in our "minds." :)
Who can play guitar that well and sing that well? None other than Glen Campbell!
+Richard Hecht Hear! Hear!
+Richard Hecht Look up his rendition of the William Tell Overture. It is awesome.
Amen !
Richard Hecht

Always a perfect musical combination, Glen Campbell and Jimmy Webb. This a great song penned by John Hartford. RIP Glen.
This song was dedicated to me by an old love and it has a special place in my heart.
Oh this gave me the chills! I love this song.
Exactly what Glen would want. Nice angle. Love it.
Boo bear x Im 44 and no one has ever dedicated a song to me.
Boo bear x yup
Elvis had the height of respect for Glen. They both were good friends.
Every time listening to this beautiful song will give me goosebumps.
Miss you so much, Glen Campbell!! 🙏🌹🎵
The pure beauty of American country music. God bless Glenn Campbell!
I was 8 years old in 69 and will always remember this song. Thank You Glen. Rest In Peace.

Glen Campbell was GENUINE and AMAZINGLY TALENTED artist. May he rest in peace.
The best country musician in the world ever. Love you Glen!!!
THE GREAtest
lord mercy..could this be more perfect? His voice is silky smooth. His guitar playing is brilliant. I remember very distinctively planting myself on our shag carpet with my nose practically to the screen watching Mr. Glen and The Goodtime hour. I didn't move a muscle as I would watch and listen to him sing these beautiful songs written by the Brilliant Jimmy Webb. It just could not get any better!
Glenn Campbell is singing to each of us...and all of us...what an artist...what a performer....thank you, Mr. Campbell...I grew up listening to your music and even now, I still listen....
I had to watch Glen sing today after hearing of his passing. What a treasure he was!
rip, bro. tnx 4 these wonderful moments.
The hours spent playing Glen Campbell songs can't be counted.....first my Aunties, then me, then my daughters. Tonight, sometimes tears, sometimes smiles. Glen Campbell, incomparable! Thanks for the memories!
I have performed for 35 years. I have been asked to perform on the Red Carpet of the World Premier of "Ill be me". I do a couple of his songs on a regular basis, In preparing for this special night, I have studied Mr. Campbell and his life with every resource I have. Gotta say, I am blown away by the way this man can deliver lyrics. Jimmy Webb is an amazing song writer. Mr. Haggard was absolutely correct when he said, "if ever too much talent was put into one body, it would be Glen Campbell." I am honored to do this. God Bless you Mr. Campbell.
Congrats, Mike! What an honor for you!
Great quote from Merle! Thanks for sharing!
Glen Campbell's signature song. Beautiful tune. Thank you Glen - you will be missed!
Such a beautiful song (tho shortened here) and man. Wonderful guitarist and musician. God bless Glen Campbell
😞😞😞another good one gone! RIP Glen! I will forever be a fan of yours❤
No pyrotechnics. No snorkel shots. No twerking backup dancers. Just pure talent. Beautiful. RIP buddy.
May 17, 1967 - Glen Campbell records "Gentle On My Mind," written by John Hartford and arranged by Leon Russell, at the Capitol Recording Studio in Hollywood, CA. :)
I saw Glenn Campbell live. What a privilege! And I saw John Denver and merle haggard live. I saw oak Ridge boys live. All gave great performances at different times. I saw a few others.
You have seen some of the best of the best! Great memories to cherish!
Man, this has always been on the short, short list of 'songs I wish I wrote'
Good lord what a pearl of a song!
Agree..
Glen Campbell was one of the all time great guitar players...a studio guitarist and one of the legendary Wrecking Crew!
Man,, Glen Campbell so own this song. I've heard a few rendition of it, and even by the originator John Hartford ( tho he does it great ) , it's STILL Glen's version I'd preferred . RIP Mr. Campbell..
ponchai allen this is the version that i go to first.
Just fantastic. Taking me back to memory lane.! Thanks for sharing.
I always liked ever gentle on my mind by Glen Campbell
Inadequate words to convey my love and appreciation of this marvelous musical talent.
Love Glen Campbell. Talented ain't the word.
R.I.P. Glen Campbell. Great guitarist with a great voice!
my kids grew up listening to glen we all love him and its so sad about his awful illness god bless you buddy
You can tell what a great artist he is the way he is able to capture the melody of a lyrically full song and not miss a note or get off track or out of synch. What a great song. Just heard it today and to watch it on RUclips. Surprised this one passed me by before.
Love this song, and especially love John Hartford who wrote it who has always been one of my top five favorites
+Barb Chumbler I got to see John Hartford play here outside of Philadelphia, what a great entertainer he was. Love
Glenn's version too.
+Barb Chumbler John was a very dear friend. Missing him tonight.
You're not shackled by forgotten words and bonds anymore Glen. Fly high, thank you for everything you gave us. We will love you forever.
A great artist that I do not listento enough. His music, voice and work are terrific.Way thumbs up and all the best to his family.For-ever Glenn Campbell.
Glen Campbell was a true gift from God in every way possible
Hi dear how are you doing over there ?
I knew it was coming, however, I've been dreading this day.
The only comforting thing is he is now free of that awful illness,
I've got a signed photograph of Glen on my wall and around 8 of his albums so I certainly am a fan and today I can see me playing his wonderful songs that always make me long to revisit America!
Now Rest In Peace Glen and thank you for the songs and memories.
I am jealous lol. Glen was a big part of my childhood. This song ranks high because you simply feel better after hearing it play.
RIP Glen .... loved your music as I was growing up..... (sheds a tear)
Great memories I was around 18 yrs old
Gawd, I love this song.
John Hartford
Hello dear how are you doing over there ?
Beautiful song from brilliant artist.
I was 5 when this song was tops! Glen is a great song writer and musician!
My grandfather introduced me to glen campbell and im so glad he did. Legend
My momma loved him so much she cut my hair like his.
There are a LOT worse haircuts than this one of Glens.
Glen long after you have departed this earth your music will live on.You were I beleive put on this earth to be an entertainer you did your job well in particular this song Gentle on my mind, My favorite listened to it 6 times today quite sentimental to me.Thank you Glen
I hope Glen's family knows how much he is really missed. I've been a fan since 1971.
The imagery of this song is amazing "thru cupped hands round' the tin can" just beautiful. I adore Glen's music!
What a great song and what a fantastic singer.
Another classic Glen Campbell song. On August 8 2017 Glen Travis Campbell died due to the effects of Alzheimer's Disease. He will be greatly missed. RIP
GLENN IN THE PRIME OF HIS LIFE. ABSOLUTELY HANDSOME!!
glen songs helped me keep my sanity when serving in VN for 19months I concentrated on his stories in each song, it helped me look Foward to coming home and I am home
Congratulations to Glen Campbell and Julian Raymond on their 2015 GRAMMY AWARD and Academy Award Nomination. Glen remains gentle on our minds as he continues to break ground. His documentary will be released by CNN in June and November 2015!
Just finished reading his book, and enjoyed it. He didn't hold back, and it took guts to write that. I respect him as an excellent guitarist and singer. I also think he did a good job in the movie True Grit, regardless of what the critics say.
Thanks, antarctic. Yes, Glen is very frank in his autobiography, "Rhinestone Cowboy", isn't he? His wife is very open in the book, too, and Glen totally supported whatever she had wanted to share in that chapter. Thumbs up on True Grit!
I loved him in True Grit! I'd really like to read his book too. I wasn't even aware he'd written one. I watched his Bio years ago on The Biography Channel... He's truly 1 of a kind.
Boobie Needham Glen's autobiography, published in 1994, can still be found on ebay. It's a great read; Glen has had an amazing life and career!
This is one of the songs I wish I had written. What makes it memorable is the lyrics. Not too many acoustic tunes possess such poetic storytelling.
The bittersweet beautiful poetry in this song is the very best.
Who in their right mind would dislike this song , when music actually meant something , rip glen!!
Gentle On My Mind makes me think of a special friend that is far away. I love this song.
Hi dear how are you doing over there ?
One of the all time greats
This is how we love to remember the late great Glen Campbell.
❤️Glen Campbell & all his songs!!!!!❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️
Hi dear how are you doing over there ?
I grew up watchin' variety shows starring Glen Campbell, Sonny and Cher, Flip Wilson, Johnny Cash, and Carol Burnett. I feel sorry for the kids today and their stupid fckn reality shows.
me too
Me three..
Good memories...
Mac Davis and Barbara Mandrel too!
Reality shows appeal to those with limited intellect.
Beautiful song by a handsome country singer. And what a beautiful head of hair Glen has in this clip!
Rest In Peace. And thank you for all the music and smiles. :)
This song was made for glen...no one else could ever sing this..am sure he is up in heaven singing this...rip glen
Hi dear how are you doing over there ?
This song brings back some of my happiest memories. He was such a talented man, great voice and a real guitar virtuoso.
My friends , my army buds, my family, and those beautiful girls I have known. I love you alll thank you Glen .
One of my all time favorites, that guitar should be in a museum.
Thanks for your comment. That guitar is sadly no longer in the same state you see in this video. It changed hands long ago, was abused, all the red paint flaked off, and then the owner (?) tried to sell it on an online US auction site in 2017 or so. A travesty!
An unbelievable guitarist and singer. I could listen to this song time after time and never tire of it. So sad that Glen has become another victim to Alzheimer's. Thanks for sharing this video of him I his hey day.
Thank you for your kind post, Christopher. Alzheimer's disease is a terrible, vicious disease, and funding for finding a cure is severely lacking. We are deeply saddened by Glen's illness, too, but very, very grateful for his legacy of music. You may also enjoy the "Glen Campbell Forums" channel on RUclips featuring many rare videos with Glen: ruclips.net/channel/UCD9mX1SAvTPVGv7QxeI09ogvideos. Thanks again!
One thing that surprises me about this beautifu, classic song is that each verse only has one pair of rhymes: line/mind; find/mind;; blind/mind; then find/mind (again). The rest is pretty much free verse, though I love the internal rhyme "through cupped hands round a tin can" has an emotional punch for me.
Two million plus views yet no one had ever commented on John Hartford's brilliant songwriting and beautiful rhyming structure. John was truly a painter with words. Thanks so much for your close listen and sharing your insights.
R.I.P Glen.. what a song.....
I thank the Lord Jesus I was born when I was ❤ HS Class of 1975
