    Valve Spring Tip. Compress it in a vice and use 2 small zip ties to keep it compressed. After installing the valve retainer cut and remove the zip ties.

    If you bake the head gasket in the oven from cold to max temp, it makes it close to new - it's like annealing.
    True.
    It works.

    Cut part of the lawn with my Grand Pappy's lawn mower while it progressively smoked till it quit running. Reckon I have same problem with valves and maybe head gasket. Now need the courage to grind less than a short hair the offending valve stems. Thanks chief for the tutorial this my save me some😃

    gr8 vid, I have a quantum Flat head, I think with similar issues. it doesn't smoke but when it gets hot it seems to loose compression until it cools off. I have taken off the head to check the valves and cylinder wall, maybe need a valve job. Cylinder wall looks fine and smooth

      Valve problems like this will not cause burning oil...valve guides that are worn will cause oil burning...valve that is loose will simply cause loss of compression and will not burn oil....

    I had the same problem. the Valve came off the spring . Put it back together but now the mower smokes ? Also the Head gasket is gone . Do you think it would be the reason its smoking white smoke ? Thanks for your Video !

    A much more acceptable and professional job would involve determining and setting the valve lash (clearance) to specifications; however, this method will probably be adequate (and certainly was "quick and dirty.")

      Your muffler may have a lot of oil in it or your piston rings maybe worn. If it is your muffler over time it will get better; also you may want to ensure your oil level is cat the correct level

    • @macknumber9
      @macknumber9 10 месяцев назад

      His repair was well done and increased compression....but his repair had absolutley nothing to do with the mower smoking....most likely when he changed the oil it either had the wrong oil type in (lower viscosity) or too much oil....loose valves do not in any way cause oil burning...
