  • Footage of a camouflaged Ferrari LaFerrari and an unexpected engine note. Ferrari is allegedly testing the 2014 1.6L V6 turbo F1 engine using a LaFerrari, as it did in 2005 when it fitted a camouflaged Enzo with a test unit of the V8 engine.

Ferrari S.p.A. is an Italian sports car manufacturer based in Maranello, Italy. Founded by Enzo Ferrari in 1929, as Scuderia Ferrari, the company sponsored drivers and manufactured race cars before moving into production of street-legal vehicles as Ferrari S.p.A. in 1947. Fiat S.p.A. acquired 50% of Ferrari in 1969 and expanded its stake to 85% in 2008, which it still holds today.[3] Throughout its history, the company has been noted for its continued participation in racing, especially in Formula One, where it has had great success. Ferrari road cars are generally seen as a symbol of speed, luxury and wealth.

Yes, comparing the sound from Jerez testing it sounds like Ferrari were indeed testing the F1 powertrain in its roadcar.

actually sounds a million times better than the clips i've heard so far, which have basically just been done on an engine dyno.

    It's not a LaFerrari it's a F150 Laboratorio

Wow... That's indeed unexpected. I wonder if that's spoiler for the exhaust sound on the new V6 hybrid Ferrari claimed to release soon (yeah, that one that ought to replace the 488)

It won't happen, because F1 is used to develop tech for road cars of the next 10-20 years. By 2020 they'll be using I4s.

I think Bernie Ecclestone is making these new rules just to screw over Redbull. He wants F1 to be more unpredictable to keep the fans watching. He doesn't want one driver to dominate so he's completely changing the game.

FoxtrotSE37 These changes would have happened even without the Red Bull dominance. It's true though that there are some changes that are clearly intended to prevent this from happening again.

FoxtrotSE37 I doubt it. FIA makes the rules and Bernie Ecclestone hates the new engines.

rofufoja Who cares what Ecclestone thinks. The new engines are engineering marvels and pushing the sport forward even more. Thats what f1's all about. If the sport was about going really fast around a track in cars that sound awesome with no assists so its pure driver vs driver then we'd still have the 1000+ hp turbos from the 80s because thats what everyone wants. If F1 went back to that ratings would go through the roof and rivalries would grow so fast due to the adrenaline that went into racing cars of that breed. But no, F1 is about technology and using the most advanced tech to further human engineering and to make the sport more environmentally friendly.
