Ahh the old VP trucks. As i recall my old 99 was pre TQ management. Had some mild 62/HT3C compounds, SO VP and redline box stacked with comp box for timing. Ran hard for a VP truck. Has some 7x.012 plus lift sticks. I remember snapping off a output shaft at 20+psi boosted launch lol
Bd diesel makes a kit that disables tq management. I have an 01 and never had much of an issue down low and I would like to think I have one of the highest hp stock s/o pump vp trucks in the country. Beautiful truck you have there . Really clean.
I’ve heard about those but I think when they are active your gauge cluster doesn’t work I’m not sure how they work. But thanks! I’ve heard about them working with the red boxes too
@Tristen Oberlender waiting to go on the dyno still. It any day now . I started blowing through my transmission with a shift kit and a billet single disk. I had to get it taken care of before I went to the dyno . I've since went to a built 48re and a built valve body tripple disk from dpc . I have a 7875 over a s488 and 6x.022 injectors , I also have my cylinder head worked over . It feels like a 4 digit hp truck, that's what I'm hoping for . I have a build on the cummins forum.
@@kingleonidas6796 only thing im seeing is that the rad box removes top speed while the wire trick does not, personally I wouldnt go that fast in my truck unless at the track but heard it rips harder with the top speed removed too
Ahhh possibly. I’ve had my truck maxed out and I simply ran outa gear not rpm so I’ve never heard of that issue and this was before I knew about the switch truck
33 ohm resistor, and a 3.9 zenar diode to ground in reversed bias, boom 80 dollar boost fooler for 2.49 or better yet use - 100 ohm potentiometer and tune the map sensor you can dial it in even more. Stage 3 get efi live of custom tuner

I do, It seems to vary truck to truck. It’s a small wire coming out of the ecm that you just tap into and the run it to a switched ground. Every truck that I have done it to once you hit the switch it will only allow lockup to start in 2nd gear. But if you don’t use the switch the truck will still lockup as normal. My truck will lock up no matter what gear it is in, I think it’s a valve body thing. But mine is now a full manual lockup switch
@@kingleonidas6796 I've got a 98.5, the first of the second gens, with the 47re and 4.10diff. I top out at 65 on the highway😂 the lockups have always irritated me, never seemed right and out of place. Having a low geared diff makes matters worse!
@@kingleonidas6796 It locked in 3rd, but only briefly. It's a Goerend built trans (stock built, just beefed up and cleaned internals). Are you referring to an manual valve body? I've been curious about those.
@@MrGhostVortex nooo manual valve body’s id just avoid those unless your trying to go halfass race truck. I just mean so the converter will not lockup unless you flip the switch. The other way it will lock up as it normally would and you can’t force it to unlock
@@kingleonidas6796 Agreed, you can’t make big power with a p-pump and have it run as smooth as a common rail; No beating that fact. Honestly though the VP44 isn’t THAT bad, it’s pretty easy to keep one alive even after adding power.
In the video it was a stock vp44 7 by 13 injectors and a taterbuilt 67/67. 188/208 Hamilton cam, ported head, side draft intake, steed speed, arp everything (rod bolts main studs head studs you name it) quadzilla tuner with my own tunes one of those you name it it probly has it kinda things. Now it’s on a s472 and a hotrod pump.

Nice truck I got it a 01 and i just put 150 hp injector and when i put on drive the shut off if i give i little gas and put on drive is fine i got stuck turbo anybody have any idea When i put the stuck injectors the truck is fine
Are you’d saying you put 150 hp injectors in and when you give it gas it shuts off? If so have you put a fass or air dog on it yet. If not you could be sucking fuel lines dry with bigger injectors and not enough fuel to use them
When I bought the truck I couldn’t afford a nice late model common rail🤷🏼♂️ it still gets the job done a gaps everything it sees. It’s the toy and since this video the trucks changed a lot.
I tapped into the black and white wire in the middle and ran the wire to the switch and ran ground off the switch straight to battery. The light on the switch comes on when it is in gear and no matter if I have it switched on or off it it does the same thing. If you think it could be the top or bottom wire I could tap into those 2.
@@kingleonidas6796 I got to thinking about it and all I did was put a wire tap into the wire and ran it to the switch. Should I have cut the wire and ran both ends to the switch?

If you put a 33 ohm resistor in the ground wire The ECM will think that everything is normal When locked up

They were a 20 by 10 hostile sprocket -19 offset with cooper Zeons I think 305/50r20
Do you have a lock-up switch as well? Cant seem to find good information on these, how they work or how they preform.
I do, It seems to vary truck to truck. It’s a small wire coming out of the ecm that you just tap into and the run it to a switched ground. Every truck that I have done it to once you hit the switch it will only allow lockup to start in 2nd gear. But if you don’t use the switch the truck will still lockup as normal. You can reliably make about 550 horse with a stock vp, any more than that you need a high output pump or just swap in a p-pump.

Good ground? Verify that and then go about trying different wires on the neutral saftey switch

I figured it out. I tapped into a second wire and ran it to the switch and now it works
