Ok..for any doubters out there! My truck has been down since december because i figured the vp44 was shot. I came accross this video and thought I would do all he said except the grounds. I just didn't think it could be that. Everything else checked out so all I could try was the grounds. And after cleaning all the grounds, the damn thing started right up and I saved a couple grand. Thanks for the great advice!
I do a complete ground inspection/cleaning once a year. Just pick the nicest day in the spring or summer (no need to break a sweat), power wash your rig top, bottom & side and go over every ground you can find. Remove the ground if in doubt and clean/sand the connector and body to get down to bare metal. A little dielectric grease on the connection and you're good to go. Trying to locate an intermittent ground along the side of the road at night will drive you insane (been there).
Any normal test light will check grounds, just put the clamp for the light on the positive battery terminal. Then touching any good ground with the light probe will light the light.
@@ChadMyers73correct, but the light puts a load on it. Light stays lit solid and consistent. A meter will show the voltage, but without any load. Pros & cons both really
Harbor freight sells a probe that checks positive ( red light ) and negative/ground ( green light ) . It works decent for checking wires and doesn't cost much
This was after I replaced the returns behind the head and from the injector. Making sure the copper washers were good and the T connection was sealed properly. Make sure that line isn’t air locked

I’ve been having an issue with acceleration when my truck is cold. I hooked my scanner up and drove the truck and it says I’ve got about 11.4-11.8 volts at my vp44 depending on rpm. I’ve already replaced the pump but I guess I’ve got a wiring problem or ecm issue?

He says the fuel pressure is 10 pounds and should be 8 pounds and the excess pressure is resulting in the diesel fuel foaming up and not staying in a liquid form. Does this sound right? Many thanks for the information!
10 pounds sounds low to me . The 8 psi he mentioned is what the old ford 7.3 idi diesels require . I've got 14 psi on mine and I haven't done any upgrades to it however it does have a in tank lift pump but I'm not sure if it's a aftermarket brand like air dog or fass etc . I'm not too familiar with these cummins but based off my research you have to have atleast 5 psi at the very minimum or it'll damage the vp44 . I'm no expert so somebody correct me if I'm wrong always open to any help/advice knowledge I can get
Yes the safest way to do it would be with a breakout box. Otherwise you just take a ground and a power wire and hook it to the corresponding leads on the plug.

If i give a tad of throttle she jumps to 1050rpm and will not come down until i put it in gear. When driving it she seems ok until I start coming to a stop then she idles too high making it harder to slow down. Also when I rev it in idle to about 2k rpm it sounds like its hesitating/stumbling. I do think it’s a fuel issue but it could be a multitude of things I would check for air leaks in your fuel system could be a bad injector could be a PCM issue with the VP 44. Check and see if there’s any codes stored and start checking for air leaks in your fuel system.
