@@stephenwright6234 just out of curiosity what are seeing for fuel psi at idle, cruising, and WOT? I'm at ~16 idle(a little more if coasting), 15.5 cruising, and 15 WOT.
FASS cured my acceleration lag LAG and increase my miles per gallon from 9 miles per gallon to 17 miles to the gallon which is the first time since I’ve owned a truck in over 10 years I have never seen it go beyond 11 miles per gallon. FASS is without a doubt the cure-all Replacing the stock lift pump was the best thing I had ever done next to marry my wife and having my daughter
Another one of the girls here and thank you for making this video! I recently lost my unicorn 03 5,9l 6 speed manual due to being hit head on while hauling horses (we all somehow walked away, highly recommend ranch hand bumpers). My 03 already had in the intank pump conversion with air dog filters and the replacement project 03 truck I just got still has the block mounted pump. Thank you for explaining this well as it was sending me down the rabbit hole to figure out and will be ordering the fass (w/o intank pump) asap.
The FASS is great! I've had mine for maybe 14 yrs with very few problems. 2 things I've changed is made new stainless steel mounting brackets and bolts, and new fuel line. I put in 1/2 inch stainless braided from tank to vp44. Also made a stainless return port on the filler neck. I would like to change the power source to key on power, because now it waits to run until the "wait to start" light goes off, which is annoying.
3rd option is to put the factory carter type pump back where you mounted that FASS . I did that over 20 years ago , it supported 416 RWHP thru the stock lines with just the banjo bolts eliminated . I have a Fass DDRP and their extension wiring kit that's going on my current 98 24v , it'll be back at the tank with my same 416RWHP combination from my old 2000 ram. One note the VP will actually draw fuel from the tank ... but it's not recommended ... , I drove my truck one evening after working on the fuel system and forgot to connect the harness back up , I drove 5 miles round trip the the gas station with it disconnected ...Good video , thanks.
Had the same problem with mine. Put one in the tank thinking that would solve the problem. It's not the vibration, it's the little pump itself. The VP44 requires at least 18 psi fuel pressure to stay cool and lubricated. The little factory modular pump only puts out at the most 8 psi pressure. Only adequate enough to baby drive, but eventually will fail. It's killing the VP right off the bat. Put a fass 150 pump on the frame next to the tank and no more problems.
Actually it's at least 14psi is ideal for 100% cooling and lubrication as that's when the overflow valve opens. Any more than that is just a cherry on top and more than 20psi can make the seals fail.
Very cool video bud, I am very much enjoying all your 2nd gen content. Would you mine sharing how you wired the pump differently than how the manufacture instructions say.
I have a 2001 24 valve set up nice with a few mild upgrades in turbo, injectors, intake, and big pipe which sounds great and runs fantastic. Although I love the sounds it makes sometimes the hollow drone from bad acoustics in the cab gets a little annoying. Do you have any thoughts on sound deadening underlayment and in door panels etc.?
Tons! They basically have pumps for every application! Those trucks don’t have the injection pump starvation issues that the VP44 Cummins trucks do though.
Love the video! Great info! Where exactly did you connect your triggering wire to? I’m trying to do the same thing on mine but I can’t seem to find a 12v like that only comes on when the truck powers up.
Clean truck man. Did the FASS system to my 01 as well. I need to research how to wire it to the factory wiring. Do not like the hot key on all the time set up.
I have been stranded by 2 different raptor pumps, they are definitely garbage. I was looking at this fast system. You said you hooked the pump to the stock power source fuse, but from what I have researched and experienced, the pump is controlled directly from the computer. There is no fuse.am I missing something here thx
the in-tank upgrade pumps are easy to add universal filter heads and fleetguard (OEM cummins brand) filters to. Fleedgaurd's nano-net is the only 100% efficiency filter on the market and the media material is patented by cummins (so you wont find it anywhere else besides fleetguard products). the in-tank pumps are the best solution
How did you modify the harness to have the pump run for only like 3 seconds or whatever the stock pump does. I’m having the same issue with my truck it’s just an annoyance.
I've got the same question, for me having it running the whole time while it is keyed on is giving my VP44 too much fuel pressure and causing a hard start issue while hot. if you found a solution to the modified harness please let me know!!! thanks!!
Yep! Except on that truck it’s more about having added filtration to protect the injectors so I have a cat 2 micron fuel filter and 5 micron baldwin water separator mounted on the fass.
Whats up dude, is an aftermarket lift pump install a good idea for smaller diesel engine with an injection pump that draws fuel from tank by itself? (A pickup without any lift pump) Interested to know. Btw my pickup truck is as old as me now (20). A toyota hilux
I’ve personally always run Fass, but honestly they make a solid product too. The end takeaway here is to just replace the factory 24v lift pump no matter what brand you choose to use haha.
I was on the phone the other day with fass and they said you can’t run your fuel return to the stock return on the sending unit cause the return isn’t big enough and you’ll end up burning up your fass system.

So would it be possible to get a decent older diesel truck to replace the one I’m getting rid of to get the nova ? Or would I just be better off to keep mine and keep on building it up
