Most of the people hearing this and many of those fighting remembered still when there was no Poland. They have built a country from scratch and have now gone into a partitions era again. Many were heartbroken. That is hard to imagine.

Listen also to the famous last radio speech of the President (Mayor) of Warsaw Stefan Starzyński- of 23th September 1939. It's hard not to have tears in the eyes while listening. There are very famous words of him in this speech: "I wanted Warsaw to be great. I believed that she (Warsaw) will be great. I drew along with my cooperators plans, blueprints for great Warsaw. And Warsaw is great. It happens sooner than I thought. Not in fifty, not in one hundred years of time, but now I do see a great Warsaw. As I speak to You in this very moment, I see her in her greatness and splendor covered by smoke, red with fire, mighty, indestructible, glorious and fighting Warsaw...". Before the war, he did much to modernization and development of the city, he had great plans and vision to make the city great, modern, to built and create its new infrastructure. But when the war came - he saw another greatness of Warsaw, in her heroism, fight, spirit. When Germans entered Warsaw (he refused to leave Warsaw with other state authorities and diplomats, but chose to stay), he was arrested by the Gestapo in October 1939, imprisoned, tortured and murdered by them (the place of his execution, his grave is still not found). Most of Polish people know this above mentioned speech of him.

sense of security is one of the most important according to maslov's pyramid of needs. I remember when the war in Ukraine started. For several weeks, every morning I looked at my phone and read the news. I was afraid to hear or see something like this video.

Polish people have a generational war trauma. I remember reactions of older people when the first news from Ukraine started coming, it was heartbreaking. Even my parents (who grew up in communism but were brought up on still fresh war stories from their relatives) were having some sort of anxiety breakdowns for the first few weeks of the war.

One more comment: today we have a national feast - it's a feast to commemorate the adoption of Polish Constitution of 3rd May 1791, that was the first modern written constitution in Europe and the second in the world (after the American one). It was adopted, in the patriotic impulse and understanding, after the first partition of Poland (in 1772) and few years before the second partition (in 1793) and the third, final one (in 1795), when Poland lost independence, being divided between Russia, Prussia and Austria. And at the same day, on 3rd May every year, it's also a Catholic feast of "Mother of God, Queen of Poland".

„Chciałem, by Warszawa była wielka. Wierzyłem, że wielka będzie. Ja i moi współpracownicy kreśliliśmy plany, robiliśmy szkice wielkiej Warszawy przyszłości. I Warszawa jest wielka. Prędzej to nastąpiło, niż przypuszczaliśmy. Nie za lat pięćdziesiąt, nie za sto, lecz dziś widzę wielką Warszawę. Gdy teraz do was mówię, widzę ją przez okna w całej wielkości i chwale, otoczoną kłębami dymu, rozczerwienioną płomieniami ognia, wspaniałą, niezniszczalną, wielką, walczącą Warszawę!”.

It would be nice if you made a video about Rota. This is a very important song for us, Poles. After Poland regained independence, it was considered as the national anthem. The words were written by a famous Polish poet - Maria Konopnicka. You're guaranteed to get chills while listening. ;) The video contains text in Polish and English.

SIEGE - Documentary film by Julien Bryan about the German invasion and siege of Warsaw in 1939
➡ In September 1939, an American documentary filmmaker and photographer Julien Bryan was the only foreign correspondent accredited in Warsaw. 📸 He managed to take hundreds of photographs documenting the siege of Warsaw and to shoot a few hours of film material of bombings, collapsing houses and hospitals, human bodies lying in the streets, the building of barricades, the tragedy of civilians, the German strength and brutality❗
🎞 The film tapes were then used to produce the film "Siege", depicting the heroic struggle of Warsaw’s inhabitants. 🗣 About Poles Bryan said: "If the Spartans were to come back to life, Poles would bow their heads to you."
📽 The film was screened in American cinemas in the spring of 1940. It received the American Film Academy Oscar nomination in 1941 in the ‘best short documentary’ film category.
