    Hi, I have a question, please help me. I have a 98 Cherokee with a Spartan in the back, the clearance is 0.133, I think it's within specifications. I used Valvoline Synpower synthetic 75w140 oil. Now, what I don't know is that it's normal that when turning, for example in a parking lot or any other turn, it makes a lot of noise and sometimes when I start straight, is this normal or what do I need to do? Please, thank you.

      @Mountain Crawlers No it was ok. I got a 97 ZJ orvis with the 5.2. I swapped out the Carrier with limited slip and put a open in it. You need a open diff carrier to use a locker anyways and the clutch packs were breaking apart. I was lucky and got 2 rear ends out of jeeps at work with the same gear ratio. I've been buying axle shafts, driveshafts, transfer cases, you name it off jeep that come into work because I know how expensive stuff is when it breaks. I just got the a front shaft out a XJ with the ujoint instead of the terrible design on the ZJ. I plan to swap them once mine starts to go on my ZJ. I love these old jeeps. Great video man I subscribed 🤙

In 4wd is of course a different story though. But if planning to daily in 2wd then I’d say go for it! My jeep is a daily as well. I’d actually prefer a Spartan front and selectable rear.

      after only 3 months i took mine out again. UNBAREABLE for a DD!
      driveshaft is bouncing like crazy in turns all the time. also popping of the spartan. it sounds and shakes the car like the axle breaks nearly everytime i turn the steering. there is a design flaw in the spartan. i was afraid it will damage something important soon.
      when in 4wd it behaves ok, but never ever step on the gas or decelerate a lot or else you lose steering instantly. with a lot caution it is driveable in 4wd (dry road) but you will feel a lot of torque-steer. bouncing of driveshaft is rare, popping of spartan does appear sometimes.
      off road (in 4wd) it is a game changer. very impressive, very nice. popping does appear but not so often. climbs like a mountain goat, turns like open diff.

    Should you do a locker on the front or rear axle?

    • @mountaincrawlers8
      @mountaincrawlers8  Год назад +1

      If you’re going with one I’d pick front first before rear. It’s better to have the vehicle trying to pull the front end up an obstacle instead of the rear end trying to push it up. Ideally you want lockers in both axles.

      @@mountaincrawlers8 appreciate you getting back to me! I’m debating as I don’t do much off road driving. I remember as a kid my dad’s wagoneer getting stuck in snow and ice and I don’t want that either. At the same time I don’t know how adding front or both will effect my daily ride.

    • @mountaincrawlers8
      @mountaincrawlers8  Год назад +1

      @@Deadbuck73 a lunchbox locker is definitely different driving in the snow. Just be aware of that. But on pavement in 2wd if it’s installed in the front you can’t even tell it’s there. If you install is in the rear it will click on turns but that’s normal.
