Excellent video, lots of detail, great lighting and easy to understand. One thing we would add to the video is to check the center gap between the two cam gears. You can do this using feeler gauges through the cross pin hole. The gap should be between 0.145 to 0.170. We rarely see Ford 9" differential case inside dimensions out of tolerance, but it can happen. The center gap needs to be within our specs for proper locker function. If it's too wide, you can shear the 4 dowel pins. If it's too tight the locker will ratchet hard.
It is good practice to mark the exact relatiinship between the drive pinion and ring gear teeth. Some ratios change randomly. Those devisible by .25 ratio 3.00, 3.25, 3.50 etc) are repedative in the gear teeth touching and have a common wear pattern.
Great vid, as an Aussie, I feel like I should do a public service announcement, it's always pronounced "oz e" with a "zee" sound not an "s" , cheers mate
Definitely like the video getting ready to change gears and Locker in my 9-inch Ford four wheel drive van going lunchbox on it I like how they handle. And we have four and a half miles of Goat Trail just to get to the main road year round
Tim is a great guy and I enjoy his videos. I realize that even your jeep has problems with the snow just like mines. Now I don't feel bad for my heep 😂
I’d like to see a review on how you like that locker on a daily driver in about 6 months. Considering getting one of these and I’d like to see how you like it
Great video. Even suffered through the super long annoying ads for USB powered smoothie blenders that aren't at all shaped (and colored) like personal massagers. I was thinking about using one of these in my CJ7. Love how simple they are.
How does it handle being locked in the rear now? Could we get a follow up video reviewing the front and rear locker? I've got my TORQ locker installed in the front, still open diff in the rear.
Great review. One concern, when using the zip cutoff wheel, much of the debris went right into the right hand bearing. Also, it's a good idea to use "assembly lube" as it will turn into a liquid vs. grease. They use it often when building automatic transmissions. Thank you for the 9 inch video.
I cleaned the bearings off camera after doing that. Not everything makes the final edit (like tightening to torque specs) for the sake of time. Good assembly grease tip. Thanks.
You should have put a mark on the side adjusters. It helps get them back to the same adjustment. Mark where the lock tab goes In to the adjuster hole. Don't use red loc tight on any of the bolt, if you use any just the blue stuff. You have to use a torch to get Red loc-tight apart.
It's interesting that even though it's only 2 spider gears, it's still a fully enclosed carrier and not windowed on the sides like toyota 2 spider gear/2 pin carriers are. Surprisingly suzuki's little baby thirds are all 4 spider gear/4 pin carriers with the center block, like the heavy duty style you mentioned. I just pulled one apart the other day to lincoln lock, they're basically a 1:2 scale version of your carrier setup.
looks like it had hole for 4 pin,but,its a 9",better than a 12 bolt chev garb.but because of the semi,single bearing,i go d60,allways.especialy with 35" +... A d60 is half price of a 9",& twice as strong.
Right on, Tim. Can't wait to see how it does in Moab and other events this year. Now you're going to spank Moab Rim! Let us know how you like the locker for a daily driver. Randy.
Well I hope you washed all them metal shavings out of your bearings! Nothing like all the Sparks from the grinder going right on them! I would at least covered it up first.
The front locker has been really good on icy/snowy roads. No real issues, you definitely know it's there but I've been up to about 60mph on a curvy stretch of freeway in 4WD on plow packed snow and did just fine with traffic.
I haven't tried every style of lunch box locker but I've had nothing but good experiences with Torq Masters/Aussie Locker. Easy to install. Good instructions, good road manners, 100% lock up offroad when you need it, and relatively inexpensive. Both made in USA!
detriot the best, any lunch box is o.k.,cant understand why,me being ausie, its an ausie locker ,made in u.s,shouldnt it be armana locker,or mytag locker,??.
Parts expand when they heat up. No backlash, they get too tight, too much, they are loose and can make noise and howl etc Damage will occur and life will be less without proper gear alignment. There's also the pinion depth to set which he didn't need to do in this operation. If you don't get the numbers right, you will have an improper setup that will come back to get you..
4 - 8,thow,is good,10 is max, less than 4 it will heat up & blow,.YOU NEED CLEARENCE FOR EXPANSION, go feel your diff after driving to the shops.!!!...NEVER,drive thru water with hot diffs, they suck in water.!!.BANG.
I need some advice. My 1990 xj is on a 3 in with 32's. My fuel pump went out and I replaced it complete with sending unit. I was getting about 12 mpg and now only 9 mpg. What happened? Any advice is appreciated.
Try checking your fuel pressure regulator and fuel rail pressure. On the renix its pretty easy. I assume youve got a new fuel filter in there as well. Without an obd the renix is pretty much, "runs smooth?" Good enough!
@@Jv977 yes it has new fuel filter. It runs perfect still, plenty of power and and acceleration. Nothing is leaking, no gas smell anywhere. It has a 13 gallon tank and went from averaging 200 miles a tank too 130 miles give or take a few. It's just weird that it all seems great except the numbers. I will check what ya said and thanks for hitting me back.
@@stephenhickman9502 Its tough to diagnose a fuel mileage problem when the engine seems to be running okay. Try and flog it a bit and see if you can get it to show some symptoms. It is possible that you have a vacuum leak somewhere and the engine is compensating for it. Get a propane torch, leave it unlit with the gas on and poke it around near any vacccum connection, listen for engine rpm change. You can also do it with carb cleaner but not as safe. Heres the bible for renix engines: cruiser54.com/ hope you get it sorted out soon.

Great video, very well done, and informative. I don't even have a Ford 9" or plan on installing Aussie lockers but I enjoyed watching it.
Very good that you work on a terry cloth bath towel. Few do. Few realize that it prevents dropped parts from flying everywhere.👍👍
Great video Tim. Can’t wait to put lockers in my XJ. It’s my first Jeep and I learn a lot from you Bleepin guys!
It’s a Bug’s Life - Nice looking XJ Bug!
Hard to find a XJ in that shape these days! Especially back East
I wrap the ring gear in foil and throw it on the grill...no complaints from your spouse then about using the oven. Great video, Tim!
Great video! Love how adjustable the Ford axles are
Exactly what I needed to see. Gonna swap a spool out for a Grizzly in my Jeep.

I have one in the front and rear of my XJ, love the rear- doesn't bother me on road, but hate the front when on trails...
there noisy,on road,turning,.but good & cheap option..

Great video. I love Torq Masters products!! Great company!
Good timing, getting ready to set up my father in laws bronco woth a locker and gears. (Give me something to pull out of the woods with my jeep lol)

I drove by Tim and the green machine in town the other day, I would’ve Jeep-waved but I drive a Tacoma these days
I don't care what you drive! Toyota's are rad too. Say hi next time!
Tim should invest on some brass punches.

Thanks for the great video! Is this the same for 31spline ford 9" axles?

No icy roads with the rear locker yet.
Good to know! Thank you for the response. Jeep is looking good to!
Hey Tim!!
How the rearend holding up?
In your opinion is the Aussie locker the best brand of this type of locker ?

Exelllant how to👍👍 Thanks! Ron1, Littlewierdjeep
how much did u preload the side bearings if u did i missed it
Not much. Just good and snug by feel. It'll be fine!
@@bleepinjeep ok
good video but you forgot to adjust the pre load you were talking about and the bearing is toast
I run a early bronco 9inch, what year is yours? Do you run spacers?
Its from a 1978 F150 and it's full width. Definitely no spacers. It's very wide under the XJ but I like it!
Great video 👍 but ugh save your coin and get a ARB if you play in the snow😀
Why so?
@@bleepinjeep side hilling brother 👍
Ooo yeah, lol. Things could get a little wild. Sounds like a good video.
Nice job Timmy! Now your locked front and rear?
Yes!
To more easily expand that ring gear, put it on a baking sheet and put it in your oven...just don't let your wife know ;).
Whats with backlash. Im new to trucks so why do we need it and is there gonna be problems if there is any backlash.

GEEZ I cant believe you threw grinding chips into the guts and bearings. Can you really clean it all out ??
That’s what she said.
so the brand "lokka" aussie made an owed got ripped off by this
I'm not sure who came up the design first, but yeah they're pretty much the same product....Spartan lockers are another brand like these
Torq Masters owns/manufacturers Aussie Locker.
No safety squints today? 😂
When using a wheel of death you should really wear a face shield.
no wheelin to test it lol
Put the shield back on your grinder.
No
It's Ozzie bro, Ozzie not Orssie.
aaahhhggg, you ground bits into the bearing, uuuuggg,,,
And then I cleaned them off camera. I could have done that better though you're right!
Great video Tim!
