This has been on our minds for a long time: Axial (and Horizon Hobby) really needs to do better, especially when they supply a charger for the SCX24 1967 Chevrolet C10 (and other RC's in the same lineup) that is of very poor quality. For us, it was faulty right out of the box (blinking red and not charging the battery). After speaking with staff at our local hobby store, they confirmed that the failure rate is quite high for this charger.
One would think that if Axial (and Horizon Hobby) is selling this RC with a price point that is attractive to first time RC buyers, they would make sure that these new customers would get a solid Axial experience. Going forward we think they should add a better charger to the kit, something that works right out of the box without a need to visit the hobby shop for a replacement (which is the opposite of customer friendly).
Please let us know if you think Axial (and Horizon Hobby) should upgrade these chargers or if you yourself had experience with a faulty charger in the comments below.

Amen i just bought a deadbolt 2 weeks ago & my charger didn't work right out of the box & went back to the hobby shop & they sold me a dynamite replacement charger & it works perfectly.
Bought my first RC and chose a SCX24 and the charger doesn't work from new.
No confidence in the brand so well done Axial for putting off a new customer.
I love the scx24. At least it does come with a battery. Everyone with lipo's need a charger that'll put the battery into storage mode anyway. The stock charger is trash but any scx24 is worth it anyway, just invest in a good charger if you don't already have one.
No doubt it’s a great truck and an awesome way to get into RC crawling. But in our opinion if they bundle a charger make sure it actually works. Chinese companies on Banggood have figured it out, so should Horizon Hobby.
I purchased the adapter for my Spektrum charger and it works well. I agree that the servo, motor and charger are horrible but thats what it take to get it at that price point I guess.
I really do love Axial's and I do have 3 of them. The warranty is great though and I just received a new motor and it seems they have been upgrading their oem parts as it looks to have better wiring connection points.

First time I charged my battery the charger started to smoke.
Hi! I just bought a scx24, it is great but I don't want to use the original charger. I have a hitec x2 but I don't know how to charge the scx24 battery because I don't know how to do with the balance connector, I don't know if I should get an adapter and what would it be? As much as I search there are no videos on RUclips and the sales of adapters do not specify much. Hopefully you can help me, I have some RC but all without balancer cable so I don't know what to do
Best would be the buy a charger that supports the connector found on the scx24 battery. We have some links in the description of compatible chargers. The cheapest one works wonderfully well and will charge and balance the battery for you. Check it out.
The one with 3 leads in the balance cable
The one with 2 is the main power.
The name of the connector is jst ph 2.0

Exactly. The charger should work right out of the box. When Chinese companies can provide decent chargers with cheaper RC’s there is no reason why Axial can’t do the same. They are just trying to save money on something they shouldn’t be saving money on. Especially how careful we need to be when charging and storing LiPo’s.
I bought the Deadbolt & the charger that came with it still works great! Takes me about 15 minutes to fully charge a dead battery. I'll be getting a better charger soon just because of the reputation, but like I said, my charger works great! I must of gotten lucky!
Cool video. I do i similar mod and solder an xt60 connector and jct adapter to use my good-charger.
I just got this rc car online and right when it got here it lasted about 30 minutes battery, I started charging it but didn't know what the flashing red light meant, it's been charging for like 1 and a half hours still nothing
You will need to buy a better LiPo charger either from your local hobby store or from Amazon. The ones bundled with the car are terrible and never work. Save yourself the trouble and invest in something of better quality. You will then be able to use it with future RC cars.
@@leftcoastrc3981 yes I did, I ordered one and the hobby store that we ordered the car from is giving us a replacement. It's good that they didn't just tell us to call horizon hobby.

I'm charging mine for the first time and the red light isn't blinking, is that bad or good?
Then you’re good. If it’s not blinking it’s charging. But of course the proof is only once you plug the battery into your vehicle and it moves. Let us know the result and if it actually charged your battery.

I think i connected mine improperly/upside down and might have damaged it, it blinks red now
Your local hobby store where you bought it should offer you a free replacement.
Getting the battery unplugged from the recessed female end was a fuckn chore

Same thing happened to me. Took it back to the hobby store, they checked the battery and said it was bad. They said they had no way of checking the charger, so they couldn't rule out the possibility that the charger killed the battery. Hobby store said I had to put in a warranty claim with Horizon... very annoying. Contacted Horizon, filled out the form on line, emailed pics of battery, charger, and sales receipt. Next day got an email from Horizon, new battery and charger on the way. Received 2 days later. Agree with you that they really should do a better job of QC, but they did honor the warranty, and sent me the new battery/charger quickly.
How many amps should you charge those batteries at? I’ve got a venom charger and I’m not up to speed on charging rates lol
If you have a 1,000 mah battery charge it at 1 amp if it’s like 500mah charger it at .5 amps
I bought two SCX Jeep Wranglers. One White and one Yellow. The white one still goes but the yellow one stopped working from day one, so i bought another one (bad move) I cannot get this one to work at all. What a waste of money.

I have 2 24s, chargers are a liability and the motors really suck. if they were any cheaper they'd be using a rubber band lol.

my charger works but the motor died the first day. I know in this price range you aren't trying to get peak performance. but it would be nice to at least get something that moves
i think they changed the chargers in V2 models not sure if there better or not

184$ with both taxes ,,and yes 1 on 3 chargers dont work properly and had a non working battery too but i luv the truck cheapest aftermarket charger is 15$ ads up to 200$ can

5:48 It's charging via the balance lead - nothing to do with it being a 'simple unit'.
Larger batteries have you connect both the main plug and the balance plug so that they can bulk charge via the large gauge wires, monitor cell voltage via the balance leads while charging and finally 'balance' the cells at the end using the balance wires to each cell ... but none of that is required for small batteries where the balance leads themselves can take the full charging current. Hence just charging via the balance plug.
I have the s150 just bought an adapter to go from ic3 to ph2.0 for 7.99. I can balance charge and storage charge.

It’s pretty garbage mine doesn’t even work so I just got an adapter and used it on my smart charger worked like a dream
Yup. The one that comes with it is garbage. We still don’t understand why they ship the crawler with such a bad quality component.

Unfortunately you’re not the only one. Our truck came with a faulty charger right out of the box. It didn’t even charge the battery once. You will need to buy a new charger from Amazon.

Bottom line scx24 is badass lil rc my charger works still a year later . Motor and servo went out horizon replaced both no problems it has a warranty use it and upgrade as you go

I got sold 10$ brass hex nuts,Needless to say by the time I got home there must have been hole in the bag,brass nut didn't make it home! Yup shops should be telling people to buy a different charger when buying these trucks to save a trip back to the store.

Dude. Save the drama and get to the point. If we are here we already have an scx and we just want to know why, and how to fix it. Now make this video again but cut it down 10 minutes.
Thanks for feedback, bro! The TLDR for you: either go back to your hobby shop and ask for a replacement charger (they should give it to you for free if still under warranty) or buy a new (better) charger from the links in the description or from Amazon. Just search for LiPo chargers and pick one.

@@leftcoastrc3981 just returned from my LHS, my solution is to cut the jst 2.0 off the batteries and make an adapter so I can just run normal jst's and use my large charger.
