It's not out yet! If you somehow have the camera, please post a sample video with 4k video, and upload it to RUclips in 4k, as I haven't seen any 4k test footage of the camera yet uploaded to RUclips.
I am a tech reviewer, that's why I have it. I just don't have the permission to post the review yet.... don't know why though... The 4k video quality is phenomenal :)
+TechLineHD oh awesome. Well when you are allowed can you upload a ton of samples? Does it have raw photos by any chance? And is there a flat (ish) video picture profile similar to go pros protube?
A result of not spending 90% of their money on marketing. Which is a huge plus for me, b/c I don't care about how "popular" it is among the masses but more about actual quality/price ratio.
+Claire Forest actually not China. these are from a kick starter that launched a year or two ago. people went crazy over them, and I presume Linus is going to release his review soon. Probably had them with him for testing, and seeing as he didn't look that weird using them over there, so why not.
sami here working for yi camera company, any problems just leave comments and i will answer. Also have some comparison videos vs gopro hero 4 black on yi camera official channel
Hey guys, just wanted to thank you, yet again, for another honest review. I really like that you take the time to lay out the pros, as well as the cons, of every device that comes in. Unlike far too many other RUclips channels, your integrity hasn't seemed to have budged one bit, even with the number of subscribers you have. I, as well as many others here I'm sure, truly appreciate your unwillingness to "sell out". Keep it up, and all the best!
Xiaomi's camera offerings have been exceptional to date. I shot all except my latest video with V1 (shot in 2k, uploaded as 1080p) and the only drawback was the lack of a line-in for a shotgun mic. I've since upgraded to a G7 for that sweet sweet 4k + interchangeable lens + adjustable aperture etc etc, but I'd definitely recommend the Yi 2. If you're questioning the brand at all, they're the 5th largest cell phone manufacturer in the world so, if you'd be comfortable with a Samsung or Apple action cam, you can bet on Xiaomi to deliver.
I'm glad a bigger youtuber like you is taking about the Yi, because more people need to know about it, and the fact they save hundreds of dollars compared to GoPros
Watching this on Xiaomi Redmi Note 2 ! Linus ! Please do Xiaomi phone reviews!! THEY ARE SO CHEAP (in China cause online you get ripped off) AND SO GREAT!!
EVEN IF you're getting inflated prices online, they're still a sensible choice for the price. The build quality is excellent, the phones look nice and the hardware does not disappoint.
I not even am into technology or computers, but these videos are so well made, the writing is well structured and smooth going. And I understoo most of the things the said, not bad so someone not so tech-savy.
i have Yi. it was launched around the same time as the go pro 4, and it's about as good as a go pro 3, for a tenth of the price. i'd say that's a success, even though the battery life is a bit terrible and it really could use a screen (they have both of those as add-ons. i haven't got around to buying them though) [edit] oh. they seem to have fixed both of my complaints with this new one. awesome
I use Xiaomi Redmi Note 3 and it's my first chinese phone and i'm loving it. I think Xiaomi is one of the best budget company's in the world. Just hope it keeps that way!
Same here, this thing isn't waterproof at all but it resurrected weeks after being punished by heavy rain, toilets and swimming pools every time. Planning on upgrading to Mi 10 soon
of course it would the way it works is pretty much its cropping the image and moving it so that it looks more stable so so when you are doing image stabilization you are useing less of your sensor at any one time giving you a lower quality image
Nice. I've always wanted to pick up a Go Pro to encourage me to do more adventuring and for trips to the range. This seems like a way better alternative for my use case. Thanks Linus!
Great review Linus, I believe Yi has created a not a GoPro killer device but a better alternative to the very popular over priced GoPro. GoPro has been sitting on the bench for the last couple of years with very little changes to their lineup. The XiaoMI camera has proven to be the far better camera at a fraction of the cost. I personally own a GoPro and it works for the most part, but I am looking for an upgrade and I will def be looking at the Yi camera as a cheaper/better alternative to the slow dying GoPro
Hi Linus, I think that you find all those Chinese "cheap" electronic devices are not worth even if they truly are. "I won't completely disagree" Are you kidding me? It beats the crap out of a product that cost waaaaaaay more and you don't even blink? What about Xiaomi smartphones? What about Letv smartphones 2k screen, 810, 4Gb RAM, 64Gb, for only 170$ and you don't even bother taking a little look? There are a lot of "cheap Chinese" products that might me cheap bur hell yes they do rock!

My sis bought this, the case and the selfie stick from Malaysia, and I just casually searched on RUclips for any reviews on this thing.....and I was pleasantly surprised that Linus actually made a review last year and it seems it's mostly Positive! Woo hoo! 🙃🖖
I've got a Yi 1... It's amazing for casual stills photography, and to augment my iPhone 6+ when I'm traveling... The accompanying iOS app is completely crap and constantly crashes... But if that doesn't bother you, the Yi cameras seem amazingly good value!! I'll be buying the Yi 2 as soon as I can!
that's how actual GoPro/action camera footage look, especially in the lighting they had on that trail. The ones you see on GoPro commercials are either post edited or they mix in footage from DSLR/RED cameras.
Harald Roman I have to say, that surviving falls is mostly down to luck, just like with mobile phones. Some break them dropping off a sofa, some survive falling off balconies etc. 122 meters is pretty good luck, I'd put down some lottery if I were you.
At 2:34 it shows microphone ports on top. Why in the world do camera manufacturers do that? Like you want to shoot video of what's in front of you but record the sound of the ceiling fan?
Linus seriously needs to make a review on the sjcam sj4000, worth only around 70$ and is the same as the hero 3 silver while having extras like a screen.
If youre on a budget, get the yi 1. It has amazing quality for its price, and it has the external battery chargers that come with spare batteries. The only downside is the battery life. But batteries are very cheap so its not really much of a problem.
You may also want to consider the SJCam SJ4000 4K Air Wifi. It's a bit cheaper than the YI2, and you can buy a separate external charger for it. I haven't tried mine yet, but so far, I got good videos out of it.
On the pre-order website they do sell a battery charging dock with their 5 in 1 kit that can charge two batteries simultaneously so you could have two spares charging in the dock and one charging in the camera
Il teach you. Step 1. Record the footage you wish timelapsed. Step 2. Take the files and put them into your editing software. Step 3. Speed the footage up. Step 4. Render it out. Bish bash Bosh you got yourself a timelapse!
The 'jitter' Linus described in the stabilisation is motion blur - when the footage is shaking, the motion blur is created. Stabilise the footage after the image has hit the sensor - as the Yi is doing - and the motion blur remains.
I currently use a "XiaoMi Yi Action Camera" for my Motovlogs and it is amazing, It's cheap so i don't mind risking it to solder on an external mic adapter. Something i would not do to a GoPro considering the price difference. As well as the fact that if it breaks randomly at least i won't be down $300+ AUD I will be definitely upgrading to a "XiaoMi Yi Action Camera 2" After watching this!
This is going to be my next camera i have finally decided. I dont want to wait for GoPro Hero 5 and its steep price. This is a great deal of a camera imo.
i used the first version xiaomi yi on my 6 month trip to s-e asia and was very happy with it. lack of screen was a negative but the 2nd generation adresses this. good job xiaomi
It's made by Xiaomi, one of the biggest phone OEM's in the world, sadly they don't sell phones outside of Asia. I had the Yi cam 1, and I loved it. So I'm about to order this one, you can't go wrong for the price.
Yes, I would defiantly recommend it. It will be released in about 2 weeks. It is currently the best performing Commercially available action camera, better than any of the Go Pros at this time. You pair that with an amazing starting MSRP of $250 and you can't beat it period. Not even the $450 GO PRO Hero 4 Black edition can beat it.
+ Mree Universe traveler *It's not out it!* If you somehow have the camera, please post a sample video with 4k video, and upload it to RUclips in 4k, as I haven't seen any 4k test footage of the camera yet uploaded to RUclips.
Can we get an updated review of this companies cameras and accessory line up, they have two different gimbals, a 4k+ camera, and more now. Would love to see updates on these
Looks pretty good. Am very interested in how well the stills stack up, I need an action cam to stick in a gimbal that I can hack up to add a physical interface to connect the shutter button to an RC receiver.
Contour cameras, being waterproof to a certain degree without a case attached actually capture great audio. I wish contour would step up their game and get with the times, they have the best form factor and most "makes sense" design of action cam in existence.
I love this channel so much, seriously I have tons of friends majoring in software or hardware engineering and I'm an art major but we're all able to talk very intelligently and this plus techquickie are where I get all my knowledge from. so PLEASE REVIEW THE NEW RAZER BLADE 14" because I really value your opinion on razer products
I bought one of these and it was really good, after a time of little use she presented problems, I called and there was no image on the screen for recording and I did not record anything like that. I searched the internet and saw that the defect could be from batteries, I bought four more and when they arrived it was not. I decided to buy another camera of the same to take advantage of the batteries and after a short time the second started to give the same problem, sometimes works and sometimes not, both are like that. With that I lost a good money, I hope that yi technology teaches us to fix with a reset because I believe it is a lock in the system.
So let me say this plain and simple, * The Xiaomi Yi Action Camera 2 is the best Commercially available Action Camera at this time!* It has the latest and greatest Sony Image Sensor and Image Processor for Action Cameras Available, better than Go Pro Hero 4 series. You pair that with an intuitive App design, and great dual microphones for an action camera, amazing video stabilization, and quality accessories that are coming soon, and this action Camera has a bright future!
Finally, a decent camera that actually costs a fair amount. I'll admit I love Gopros and their ecosystem and reliability (using a silver 3 refurbished) but they are still way too expensive for what they are.
If you like this product, which is from Xiaomi, You will love their Mi 5 smartphone, which can challenge a Galaxy S7 at the price of One Plus 3. My entire family has it. It rocks the latest Snapdragon 850 with OIS in rear cam and is super light that you wont believe it is so powerful.
I have the first model of the yi camera (z22l worldwide version) and I'm quite happy with it, except for the crappy battery life. I would buy this soon
the Chinese SJ4000 is a pretty good Hero 3 silver competitor for only 80,- bucks (back then) with a full range of accesoires. and it also had a display (non-touch). still not shabby! (and i bet the newer ones that have wifi, 1080p 60fps and some K-support are worth their price as well.) and no shipping costs by ordering from Banggood , my favorite chinese warehouse :')
Have been using this camera for a month already. Yes, it is a GoPro killer.
Any chance of uploading some demo footage?
It's not out yet! If you somehow have the camera, please post a sample video with 4k video, and upload it to RUclips in 4k, as I haven't seen any 4k test footage of the camera yet uploaded to RUclips.

any review for the first gen Yi cam?
Good brands like DJI do the trick for me. Quality anyday I think. Their new action 2 is worth the hype.
It's Xiaomi, it's obviously not gonna be bad from one of the worlds biggest phone OEM's.
+1
They're actually not in the top 5 in terms of sales, but their phones are okay
+Javier sebastian once, xiaomi be the third place.. But now the fifth on sale.
A result of not spending 90% of their money on marketing. Which is a huge plus for me, b/c I don't care about how "popular" it is among the masses but more about actual quality/price ratio.
I currently have a Xiaomi Redmi Note 3, and I'm in love with it, no problems so far. Amazing phone. I imported it from China for around $200.

Welcome to China, Linus :)
nice products ya got there mate,i used a chinese product one time...it broke...
Some leading Chinese tech companies like Xiaomi desperately want to change the poor quality stereotype of Chinese products.
xiaomi's phones have pretty great product quality, the redmi 1s that i brought for 100 usd 2 years still works fine and still have ota updates lol
redmi 1s is a great phone for frequent ROM flashers...i too had one..until i lost it...luved that phone

+ Mree Universe traveler *It's not out it!* If you somehow have the camera, please post a sample video with 4k video, and upload it to RUclips in 4k, as I haven't seen any 4k test footage of the camera yet uploaded to RUclips.
God damn, Master Yi strikes back in 4K!
Used a Yi for a year, great camera. Blew me away with its quality and one of my favorite purchases of the past few years.
Can you use say a SENA comm with Bluetooth to sync the audio...a mic input is important whether through bluetooth or a hard line for Motovlogging
Can we get an updated review of this companies cameras and accessory line up, they have two different gimbals, a 4k+ camera, and more now. Would love to see updates on these
I like how clean it is, no big knobs (buttons) everywhere. I mean dayum makes making custom stuff hell of a lot easier😅
To say that intro was killer, is an understatement.
i have the original yi and have always been impressed
Looks pretty good. Am very interested in how well the stills stack up, I need an action cam to stick in a gimbal that I can hack up to add a physical interface to connect the shutter button to an RC receiver.
Looks very impressive. Should get my hands on it soon.
Didn't know LTT did reviews for Xiaomi or Yi products too. Nice :)
Oh a new camera from the yi series i love the old one and it makes still very good movies
another great review Linus. i am deffinitely getting that!
someone knows music at 5:41-5:50? i cant remember the title
you can use adapter screw -> go pro mount. It's very nice solution. also you can use any accessorize from regular camera
I can't wait for the Master Yi Action Cam
This is absolutely a Go Pro Killer. I used to use a Action Cam '4k' It looked 360p or less
it was $60
I hope this one will be better.
That image stabilizer is amazing.
So let me say this plain and simple, * The Xiaomi Yi Action Camera 2 is the best Commercially available Action Camera at this time!*
It has the latest and greatest Sony Image Sensor and Image Processor for Action Cameras Available, better than Go Pro Hero 4 series.
Finally a decent and reasonably priced alternative for a GoPro!
SooCoo S70, 80 bucks, very decent quality. Only downside + poor battery, no way to turn of screen in timelapse mode. But other then that solid deal.
the Chinese SJ4000 is a pretty good Hero 3 silver competitor for only 80,- bucks (back then) with a full range of accesoires. and it also had a display (non-touch).
still not shabby! (and i bet the newer ones that have wifi, 1080p 60fps and some K-support are worth their price as well.) and no shipping costs by ordering from Banggood , my favorite chinese warehouse :')
i would like for Brandon to make an indepth on this camera. talking about sharpness and dinamic range and all that geeky camera talk
