    Great video! Love the hat, BTW! Anyway, the mysteries of dispatch have been solved! Our dispatch folks also perform van maintenance like replacing flat tires or changing out tires and dealing with burned-out headlights and other such things. They also look at getting flex routes or dropped routes if they become available. They also work with station personnel on troubled multi-building apartment complexes where pin placements are all jacked up and work with the station to get those stops unscrewed. The Anthology complex in Issaquah, WA is a fine example of a hot mess of an apartment stop. Anyway, dispatch does a lot. They problem solve, vehicle maintenance solve, and assist the DAs who are out on the road delivering those Amazon smiles!

      Wooo! Glad to hear it! 🧢
      All true! It’s always a little bit of everything. Picking up/dropping off vans for maintenance, interviewing new hires, the list goes on! Definitely cool to see that side of things.

    Amazons really short on vans. Actually all delivery companies are. Between 2019-2022 less then 10% of the normal production of cargo vans was actually made. So it will take manufacturers a few years to catch up. Get used to rentals

    Hi, I am a driver I was recently promoted to dispatch. I'm obewilmed about tracking packages when people are returning to the station. For example, if they have extra packages that they can pick up or what not. I have trouble navigating the cortex and I stand there very blank minded sometimes. Could you make a video about that or do you have any advice

    • @FridayAdventureClub
      @FridayAdventureClub  11 месяцев назад +1

      Hey! At my DSP we’d just make sure everybody texted Dispatch with TBAs of any packages in their vans before they came back to station. And then you can search for that TBA in cortex under each driver’s name/route and see the status. If marked delivered, that’s the biggest issue and they’d have to go back and make sure they delivered it. If unable to access, we’d reattempt at least twice. The key is to emphasize that we want to bring back EMPTY vans unless a packages has been cleared by dispatch as unable to deliver or a mis-sort.

  • @pippn

    What time do you guys start to have people returning at 2pm? We aren't getting back to station until 6:30 or 7pm

    can dispatchers swap routes between drivers, because I get sent to the same rural area in the middle of bumfuck nowhere and i hate it. i ask the managers to swap me for a route in the suburbs but they do nothing, yet when someone calls out sick, for some reason, i get swapped to that route in the suburbs and another driver on standby covers my rural route.
    second, when we report issues on the road like a dog bite or a bad route with terrible stop order, does a report get sent in or do is that just putting makeup on a pig?

    • @FridayAdventureClub
      @FridayAdventureClub  6 месяцев назад

      Yes, dispatchers can change routes. Cortex assigns routes automatically based on driver affinity (tries to keep you in an area you know well), but assignments can be manually changed.
      Also yes kind of. Things like dog bites are escalated to station manager depending on severity. Poor routing is an issue with the routing algorithm and as drivers continue to do those routes the stop order is supposed to gradually improve as it learns from the data that is input.

    • @FridayAdventureClub

    4:01 getting routes assigned...dispatch doesnt do that. Making sure all the packages get off the pad...the drivers do that. Making sure everything gets delivered...the drivers do that. We delivered 4180 packages...no "we" the drivers did that. Making sure everyone makes it home safe...dispatch has nothing to do with that. Plugging in all rabbits to charge....something a kid could do. Giving out snacks and saying hi to bunnies...got what a BS "job"

      Yeah usually pretty chill until someone gets a flat or damages a van. Or someone calls out or gets sick/hurt. Highs and lows, I was just filling in this day so didn’t have to deal with anything too crazy.

      @@FridayAdventureClub so if someone gets a flat, or damages a van or gets sick/hurt what does dispatch even do. Fill out a report ? Make a phone call ? A guy at my dsp damaged a van. Dispatch told him to report it to driver support, then when he got back to the station they handed him a blank piece of paper to write out what happened. Seems to me like dead weight
