My dad had one of these when I was a kid and I always thought it was cool. I don't know what it was originally used for (dad was a janitor/techie/do-everything guy at a school and I think he got the laptop for free when the school was clearing out old stuff), but it had Windows 3.1 on it which was weird because even Win95 predated the laptop by a few years.
Sadly he got rid of it because it didn't see much use, we'd boot it up maybe a couple times a year to try different Linux distros on it, and then it'd gather dust for months again.

I had this exact model when I was doing my A-Levels. It's great that you have got one with such great conditions; mine's HDD is broken and the plastic near the hinge became crunchy and broke off...

That seems to be the biggest problem with laptops at this age, the plastic just starts to disintegrate. Apparently there is a growing community for 3d printing replacement plastics but I haven't gone very deep in the research.

Recently got an old one of these from work. sadly one of the hinges has broken from the screen, as the plastics were just too brittle. Did you use the HDD that came with the system, or upgrade to a more modern solution? I was hoping there's a CF adapter that would work in the laptop for a more modern reliable drive.

I used a standard IDE disk drive but the drive bay is big enough that you would be able to fit an IDE to CF or IDE to SD card adapter in there.

I just made a video about this thing. I've had this since high-school pretty much. The last people to have it before me, put windows XP on it. I am having issues finding display adapters that would work with XP. Do you recommend downgrading to windows 98 or do you know possibly where i can find some drivers for this thing? lol thanks in advance!

hey if has the easy access for the hard drive like others models I seen with a sd or cf card you can change from 98 to 95 for some if you wanted to!!!!!!

The drive bay area is very easy to acees and has loads of room if you need to jury rig an IDE converter in there with an SD or CF card

It looks like the Pentium II version of the Armada 1500 series. What does the CMOS battery in this thing look like? If it's too much trouble to get to it, don't worry about it.

It's a CR2032 all wrapped up in heat shrink, located under the keyboard

У меня есть такой ноутбук. Купил специально для игр времён Windows 98. Жаль только что дисплей то работает то нет, да ещё на ноуте один порт USB.

Not sure. It's entirely possible, but I wouldn't classify this as a ruggedized laptop
