Nice one Chris. That's really neat, you can have it hooked up to a nice monitor, a good keyboard, mouse and have the full desktop experience. Without the huge tower. Hope it works out for you!

Thanks, I'm planning on a follow-up video in a few weeks to show how it's working out

@@retropcdurham Look forward to that! You could always stick a nice SSD in the drive bay too. Maybe use it as a working scratch disk, for your video editing. Before you send completed projects to the NAS.

That egpu has quite a few features crammed into there. I feel the extras would make it a better buy so long as the bandwidth doesn't become an issue.

Plug it into the other thunderbolt 3 port, the one closer to you is the true thunderbolt port the one at the back is more like a USB-C

Hi, I used to connect Lenovo Legion BoostStation to my Asus Notebook with thunderbolt 3 port. But I try to connect it to my new Geekom IT12 through USB4 port. The Bootstation cannot be deteced. Any suggestion for me.

I really need this Boost Station here in Romania, for my laptop, i have a stand-by GPU AMD 5700XT from my temporarily broken pc, and this would help me greatly, I really need it, but can't find it anywhere bare-bones.

I got this one as an open box from an eBay seller in the UK; as I noted in the video I'm pretty sure most of these were sold right in the big GPU frenzy, and the 2060 that would have come with it either went into crypto mining or was immediately resold for 2/3x the value of what they paid for the Boost Station. Keep an eye on eBay listings as there were about a dozen back when I got this one, all around the same pricing

@@retropcdurham thank you, i have seen listings for UK but for 120-180 pounds with no gpu, factoring the 20-50 pounds delivery to romania, it is way to expensive with no gpu, I hope some cheaper listing would appear, for that price i could buy a new razer core in romania, i just hope for a fair deal, i have a Lenovo ThinkBook 15 inch with Intel Core i5-1135G7... maybe someone will hear my prayers and have one available near me , as long as it is not damaged, i will buy it , no gpu needed, only the internal components that allow me to get my gpu inside.

I might get one after watching your excellent video. How much did it cost you?

Could this unit support dual gpu with a workaround somehow...?
And is there any way to hook this up to the mini pcie slot on a motherboard where the wifi card normally plugs in?

Yea it's been running really well, outside of a small incident involving dog zoomies breaking the TB4 cable.

My Legion booststation has a 8pin connector plus a 6 pin. Whereas my gpu (Radeon AMD Red Devil 6700 XT) takes two 8 pins. Any help/advice would be appreciated. Thanks in advance.

This is supposed to support 100w charging, did you resolve that issue? I'm looking to buy one to replace my dock and my laptop needs minimum 90w.

On my X13Y I no longer get the error but on my T14s Is still do. That being said, the X13Y is on Win11 and the T14s is still on Win10.
In both cases, despite the error full charging is happening, so I think it is purely a cosmetic error.

Hi, can you tell what CPU usage is when gaming (if you can with Fortnite). Also what is your Laptop processor? After using this eGPU, did you notice any difference in thermals on your laptop and its processors cooling? Also dose the eGPU psu fan is always on and noisy and the case fan and if this could be controlled. When you undock the laptop dose the eGPU go into standby mode automatically, thanks. As I am thinking to hook this with Thinkpad Nano Gen 2 i7 with RTX3060ti and fan noise is my big problem.

    • @retropcdurham
      @retropcdurham  2 года назад +1

CPU is a 1265U. Thermals are a little better with eGPU vs iGPU, like topping out in the high 80s vs the low 90s, I'm assuming from not having heat off the iGPU as well. YMMV depending on your laptop and how well it cools.
The fans in the the enclosure as well as the GPU are all pretty quiet and only ramp up in high stress.
When you undock the eGPU goes into a sort of statndby, yes, it doesn't need to be turned off.
