    Anyone else feel like Kurt is the Mr. Rogers of whiskey tube? Hear me out here. Distinguished older man, honest, trustworthy, spouts little bits of wisdom, brings in friends, neighbors and family to the show, which ends in a jaunty little jazzy piano tune.

    I totally agree with you that Jefferson's (Ocean or otherwise) would be sold better if they were not more than $50. I haven't seen this one (Tropics) but it is interesting concept.

  • @DanielDrociuk

    The Jefferson’s website does tell more of the journey. Looks like it spends 18 months in Singapore, then back on the boat to the US. So it appears it’s part of the Ocean expression line, with an added twist. It is also interesting they they have a trademark on the “Aged in Humidity” phrase…

    I’ve blinded this bottle with Van Winkle 12 and JD12 a few times now. Each time I have chosen this as my favorite. Gimmick or not, it’s a tasty bottle.

    High humidity slows down the evaporation rate. Each year there would be less "angel's share" than in a lower humidity environment.

    • @thedaventure
      @thedaventure 11 месяцев назад

      Any idea on why that would be an advantage to the consumer besides maybe them passing on less loss cost savings?

    • @robertneal4244
      @robertneal4244 11 месяцев назад

      Not that I know of. They could have found similar humidity much closer to home. I think the ocean voyage/ aged on a moving ship thing is more gimmick than some great advantage in the aging process.

    July of 2019, 720 barrels were shipped to Singapore and aged there for 18 months. The barrels were returned to the U.S. in December of 2021. In March of 2023 their master blender determined the optimal flavor profile of 104 proof.

    9:32 There seem to be a number of whiskies which, whether because of the secondary market or because of the distiller's price, cost more than they're worth. And it seems to me, based both on my limited experience and on what I've read and heard, that the problem is most common with "premium" or gimmick whiskies.

    I took about a 6-year hiatus from Jefferson's. I've recently revisited an older bottle of their very old whatever they call it, completely untrinkable! However I recently tried their $315 Marion McClain and it is downright fantastic. Cannot justify the price but it is some of the best whiskey I've had this year.

    Yeah I was a resident of S'pore for over 10yrs and it seemed like it was always around 93 degrees and 95% humidity. I swear if it dropped down to 80 on a rare occasion you would see some folks running around in jackets or cardigans. Anyhow, no way is this Jeffersons worth what they are asking. It should be about half that, and I feel they are demanding the high price to recoup their shipping costs back and forth.

    Got to agree with Kurt on this one. A while back I went to the Kentucky Artisan Distillery where Jefferson's is made (along w/ a couple more.) Did the tasting in what used to be an ice cream making facility, and it was okay, but not for what they wanted for it. I ended up buying a bottle of something else they had on hand called "Whiskey Row", which was cheaper and better tasting, imo.
