That Baby Jane may not break the bank but if I'm in the store and I see a 4-6y 91proofer for $50 next to a bottle of Wild Turkey 101 aged 6-8years for $25, I'm going Turkey.
Or for the same price, Rare Breed!
Agree on both.
@@nickbonvino Amen
Almost get knob creek 12 for this price
Can’t disagree with your line of thinking. I like to highlight new releases and at least the WJ offering was an effort at a more affordable option. Hard to beat some of the tried and true budget bottles from other legacy distilleries though.
Kyle’s editing has been on point the last few weeks 😂
I live in Cedar Rapids. Thanks again for reviewing our Distillery here, Cedar Ridge. I am going out to HyVee and getting a barrel proof. Love your videos.
is it a fun place to visit?
If you find a single barrel double barrel barrel proof. Get it, won’t be disappointed! I think a few hyvees did picks and are fantastic!
Yes, it is a very nice property. They also have wine, so you can walk their vineyards as well.@@whiskeylandtv
LOL the windows error! The way in which you don't take yourselves too seriously - both the humility and the self-deprecating humor - are one of the most endearing and entertaining aspects of your channel.
That Green River Full Proof wasn’t incredibly complex at first crack but it was potentially the most approachable high proof product I’ve had in a while. A great introduction to proofier bourbon for a newbie.
One of your best reviews. Appreciate reviews on quality under $60. I have put them on the list to try. Cheers
Been a subscriber for a while now. Love your vibe and energy when it comes to whiskey and finding deals that still taste good. Keep up the great work guys!
I know they are from last year (or the one before) but the Bardstown Origin series Black and White labels are the go to "budget" bottles that really hit for me. I know there are cheaper bottles that are really good (WT 101 is great and has been mentioned) but these two bottles are great and offer a different experience for a really good price.
As an Iowan, it is awesome seeing you guys show Cedar Ridge some love. They have been making great whiskeys for quite a while now. You guys should do a whole “Is Cedar Ridge worth it?” video. I believe the barrel proof is a blend of 3-4 years if I remember correctly (check back of bottle).
Just found Green River Full Proof in my area here in TN. I enjoyed and well worth the $51 price tag. i hope i will be able to find the Cedar Ridge in near future. Love your channel. Thanks for the content.
150K Congrats!!!! Great video.
BY FAR…..the best whiskey show on RUclips!…..thank you….to all involved!
Green River is delicious! And it’s got a slot in the front of the bottle for playing quarters - fun bottle design at its best.
Another great video. Really interesting choices. I love me some Widow Jane 10yr when I can find it on sale for ~$50. I love the coffee/chocolate/mocha note at the end. I like that they are rolling out a $50 SRP. Now there are three new whiskeys I'm going to try.
Excellent video guys! I was able to try the green river and to be honest the first night I tried it. It was just OK but then I tried it the second night and really loved it. Sometimes that happens with your pallet between days depending on what you eat, etc., but I thought Green River really did a great job of releasing this full proof product
I have a Green River - Single Barrel Full Proof that is awesome. Haven't seen the Shelfer yet in Texas, but I will pick it up when it reaches the shelf.
Grabbed the 'California Love' version of the Green River full proof a few weeks back. Mouthfeel was good, overall it was above average, but got a lot of odd licorice notes on the palate. Also was $65 here in CA. Won't be getting another, happy to leave it for someone that better appreciates that style.
From your comments ..Cedar Ridge…..but still deciding on a Rye ! Green River description was all over the place ! I could not settle on what it was. thx 👍. 🥃
Trenton - the Paradigm Rye from WJ is so different from most other Ryes. Definitely do a video with that one. It’s one of my absolute favorites. Imagine someone taking a sweet apple jolly rancher and distilling it. 👀 Yeah! It’s like that.
Finally was able to get my hands on some cedar ridge after your guys recommendation. Only one I could find is the barrel proof(which I might add is fantastic, and mine is batch 003 and is a blend of 3 and 4 year old barrels) wish I could find some of the others you guys have featured! Love the show and thanks for all the great content and recommendations!
As much as I enjoy Widow Jane products, I REALLY wish they would up their proof to 100. It comes across as kind of thin but it's still pretty good, so you'd think it would really help them bring their flavor game up a few notches.
I like the regular Cedar Ridge as well as their Double Barrel. If you guys get a chance, you need to check out the Portside offering from Cedar Ridge. It's fantastic.
I was at HyVee this morning and the Cedar Ridge Barrel Proof was on sale for $33.99....guess what came home with me.
Just went to HyVee Drug on Blairs Ferry and Center Point and they had it for $42.99. I got a bottle. Can't wait to try it.
Cedar Ridge Barrel Proof just reviewed by SLB Drinks
I also got the Cedar Ridge Barrel Proof at $42.99 at Hyvee Drug (Boyson Rd). On the website it is listed at $39.99 plus shipping. For me it is a 25 minute drive. I'm very much enjoy the Cedar Ridge Port Cask finished too.
I really enjoy watching both of you two and how well you get a long with each other . I know of so many Father and Son who don't even talk with each other . So to watch both of you and to get Great reviews is Awesome . Thanks for sharing .
agreed. its cool to see whiskey bring family together
Here in Iowa, that cedar ridge small batch barrel strength is my favorite bottle they make! Delicious!
Great video. Since I refuse to spend $100 or more for a bottle of bourbon, I love to see these releases that are all in my price range. I will be keeping an eye out for all three of these.
Great show you have, very informative and fun! Picked my bottle today here in Michigan under $50. Cheers!
I worked in a cave in Rosendale for Iron Mountain in the 80s. 45 acres underground. It was a small town with roads and buildings. Big trucks would drive around. Other parts of IMAR, The Caves, as everyone called them had large underground lakes. It was cool to have worked there. They should make an Iron Mountain blend.
Green River Full Proof that I have drinks much more like a rye to me. The heavy rye mash bill is very apparent. Herbal tea and mint and honey are the prominent notes I get from my bottle. Caught me off guard at first but once I got to know it I really liked it as I've become a big fan of rye this past year.
3 great choices, i ended up with all of them and cedar ridge wins. my current 3 economical faves: cedar ridge barrel proof, old forester 1920 and keeper's heart irish & bourbon
Recently picked up a cedar ridge barrel proof for $35 on sale here in Iowa and it is my favorite barrel proof. Beat out WT rare breed in a blind which surprised me as well
“Do you get a Windex note?” Of the many Trentisms we’ve seen so far, this one takes the cake!!!
You're allowed to add a drop or two of water to a barrel proof, and sometimes it makes a good whiskey better. It can also moderate flavors and show new flavors.
Yall please open and review the paradigm rye from widow Jane. It’s gotta be one of my favorite ryes out there. If you enjoy that one I would try out their applewood smoked rye
nice little selection, never seen any of the 3! good idea to look out for them!
Trenton has fully morphed into the guy who doesn’t like bourbons under like 120 proof.
Right??!!
It’s easy to do lol
Yes, Trenton is a Paduan learner, but he has a point. The cologne comparison points to synthetic formaldehyde, a common scent base. Traces of formalin ? Dunno.
Formalin can be produced if fractional distillation of methanol occurs in high iron water.
Usually the methanol rich distillate comes out first and is discarded.
Nicely done, Guys. Appreciate the fo us on new offerings at a reasonable price.
I sampled that Widow Jane from Trevor's you referenced while in AZ last week. Wish I would have snagged a bottle to bring home but my suitcase was already full. 😂😂
I did get to kill a bottle of RR Single Rick while at the bar though so the night at Trevor's was really good.
Nice review fellas. I am just an hour north of Cedar Ridge so I am a bit biased but they have been bottling some dang nice juice. (as you well know)
Hell yeah, after my first purchase of the green river full proof, I went back and purchased three more just in case this bottle blows up. I also picked up their rye, which is fantastic.
Also, this is random but for anyone in the Cincinnati Northern Kentucky region, the Kroger in Florence has the full proof on sale for $34 and the rye for 3199 🤘🏼🤘🏼🤘🏼😊
I got the first batch of Cedar Ridge BP and its absolutely phenomenal bourbon! Im lucky to live about 15 min away from the distillery!
I had a Manhattan with widow Jane paradym and it was one of the best drinks I’ve ever had!
I live in Cedar Rapids Iowa about 15 mins from the distillery, the barrel proof and the double barrel are 2 of my favorite products from cedar ridge. If you like single cask, their quintessential is great as well but it’s a little pricier, especially for the single cask releases. I have a 7 year single barrel rye that released here locally that is fantastic also.
Smooth Ambler, Old Scout Bourbon (99 proof, $30) and for $5 more you can get the barrel proof Rye ( approx. 116 proof) and they are both stellar.
Green river full proof is my go to now for cheap full/barrel proof
Never been a fan of WJ but I would try a pour if I ran across it. GR on the other hand a fan of. Will definitely give it a try if I find it in my market. I just picked up their Rye to try. I have not seen Cedar Ridge here in North Carolina, but will definitely keep my eye out for it! Sounds like it’s a winner! 🥃
😊 I'm stuck at a 2-bottle BAR with WT 101 & 8yr old ISLE OF SKYE Scotch {1.75L} poured into my fancy crystal decanters. They Pair nicely with my Premium Imported Handmade Cigar Collection.
They are all good but you are right the Cedar Ridge is dynamite! I would rank CR, GR then WJ in that order.
The green river smells like gardenias to me. Great summer pour
Picked one of those cedar Ridge barrel proof up for $29 at Binnys the other day end of the bin sale not a bad bottle
Have you guys ever tried Dettling bottled n bond or cask strength? It’s phenomenal!!!! I would love to see you guys review it and get your take?
hey guys, I really like Larceny barrel proof. What are your thoughts on it? Can you recommend other bourbons that are similar? Thanks ahead of time
Bardstown origin high wheat, Ben holladay Sweet Red Wheat Rickhouse are a couple
Everything I've had from Green River has been great, so I'll have to keep an eye out for the barrel proof.
You guys need to try the 7 year cask strength rye from cedar ridge. Tons of flavor
I got a great deal on a Cedar Ridge Quintessential Single Malt. A solid 118.3 proof Scotch/Irish Whiskey vibe. I would never guess this to be from an Iowa distillery if tasting blind.
I’d try that bourbon for sure.
Tried grabbing that Green River, but it sold out quick.😞 Now I need to find the Cedar Ridge. 😁
That Green River bottle is an absolute hitter!
I'm going to check out that Cedar Ridge juice soon.
Cedar ridge is good! They also have a bottled in bond, port cask and the original is good too!
Hey Guys: Just started watching your videos - really, I've just started drinking whiskeys, bourbons and ryes - and need some help from you.
First, have you ever made a "glossary of terms?" As a beginner, I don't know what the many senses of "cask strength" are. What does cask strength betoken for the both of you? What does "proof" mean to you. (It seems to mean the higher the proof, the better the taste.)
If you might create a glossary of terms that a beginner might consult it would be a great help and aid.
Thanks for the videos and hope you continue to make and post them. All the best.
Can’t wait to try all 3 haven’t been able to find the Cedar Ridge yet
Adding these to our hit list, Thanks for showcasing these. Sláinte
Feel like the brown sugar flavor bomb of cedar ridge may have compromised the green river tasting to a small degree. Interested to get a bottle myself as I'm a big GReen River fan as well.
They really missed an opportunity with Baby Jane to call it Wittle Jane
😂
I like it!
LOL, well played
Interesting you mention the Wheated, recently I hosted a blind Wheated bourbon tasting including Weller SR, Redemption, Ben Holliday Red Wheat, Old Elk Double Wheated and Green River. Green River was walk away winner just an FYI
Widow Jane Paradigm Rye. Delicious!!
I can’t wait for Green River to release the Full Proof version of their wheated bourbon!
Ditto!
It’s out. Just bought it today. It’s not too bad for $47
@@TheShivedj… the Full Proof is 70% corn, 21%rye, 9%malted barley.
This Chattanooga white port is absolutely delicious ! Please do a review of this. I'm so interested in what you guys think.
I only buy non chill filtered over 46%. Hoping there are more releases like that
Cedar Ridge!! I got married there, so glad to see you guys love that bottle!
GR is part of the great Bardstown Bourbon Co. family. All great stuff.
would love to see reviews on Trenton's unopened Ryes. There are few if any tasting reviews of Widow Jane Paradigm Rye.
I'm with ya big guy, I like a little bit lower proof bourbon too. 110 is about my limit.. each to their own
Wow! I will be looking for all 3 of these bottles!
Never seen Baby Jane before, Interesting! Great video, where’s the Spam!🥃
I have a store pick of a Green River single barrel, and I didn't think it was all that great. Had a good front palate but had a really funky bitter finish. It got a little better after the bottle was open for a while, but I hope the Full Proof is better than the single barrel was. Seems this will be a varying proof per batch as well.
Have you guys tried Oppidan single Barrel, cask Strength? Ive had Barrel 416 and 417 around 115 proof each, I enjoyed both. Its from Waukegan IL, I cant find much information on Oppidan as a distiller though. Its 45.99 here where i live in Tennessee.
Green River rye is 95 proof. For me, the first crack pour had an odd note on the finish ...but since then it opened up nicely. Darn good especially for the price.
I have bought the Cedar Ridge. Unfortunately I have to wait for the delivery, as it is unattainable here in Oregon.
Widow Jane is one of my favorite distillers
"This person is not responding" HAHAHA, that was great. Looking forward to finding that GR FP.
I've talked to my local store about getting some of the Green River FP 🥃👍
Can you review Calumet bourbon
Cedar Ridge's standard Bourbon is aged 3 years, but I'm not sure if it's still at the 3 year age statement then just bottled. Their Double Barrel is fantastic.
The Windex note, actually had me laugh out loud. Trent is a piece of work.
Mammoth Northern Rye #2 is something I think Trenton would love!
I found the Cedar Ridge Rye at Total Wine and now nothing comes up in a search, that's disappointing. Cheers from another Kurt 🥃
That custome series from Trevor's is amazing. I just got a bottle last week
Cedar Ridge Barrel Proof is excellent and I enjoy their BIB just as much.
Kurt: "efficiently priced" is more accurately phrased as "reasonably priced."
Glad someone already brought it up...that phrase was hitting me oddly as well. One of the reasons I really like you guys is you just say what you mean and the whole "efficiently priced" sounds very forced. Over priced and well or reasonably priced are not ambiguous. Sorry to be a bummer on that one, keep up the great work
Yes on the Rye video 👍🏼
You guys make great videos
The green river rye is straight fire!!
Trenton is lit in this one
My Partner is subscribed to you and never misses any of your 3 weekly videos
He gets me on look out to find Bourbons you taste and suggests
Could you say hi to him ? his name is James Wilkinson
Hi James! Thank you both for being a huge part of the SLB community! Appreciate ya!
Great Video
Love the videos. Not sure you can say full send and take a sip. Full send is all in.
Is Trenton wearing a yamaka?
Awesome video
If it's NAS and it says straight, it has to be 2 years+ right? Legally? (regarding the Cedar Ridge)
I believe any bourbon that is under 4 years must state the age on the label. If it's 4 years or older then there is no requirement. So assuming there is no age on the label (and Kurt didn't just miss it) then it should be at least 4 years old.
@@goodbyegalaxy i dont think that is true because peerless was doing a lot of under 4 year age statements on their products and they do not list age statements on any bottle they produce to my knowledge
The minimum 2 years age, and required age statement if under 4 years is only if it is labeled as a "straight bourbon/whiskey". Otherwise there is no requirement to have an age statement.
@@jamesd5689 again, with peerless releasing a few 3 year old products in the past, i dont think thats true. none of their stuff has age statements.
