- Sri Lanka faced two conflicts from the LTTE along with other Tamil groups and the JVP as both they and Government forces pitted against each other in a large-scale Civil War that ravaged the country and spread into India and the Maldives with many other nations and foreign militant groups involved in the conflict one way or another.

IIRC the Tamil tigers literally popularized modern suicide bombings (and did the most of any group) and attacked a international airport .This war could have easily been avoided , it kept on getting worse after retaliating attacks by each side (which were justified by the other side's previous attacks) this cycle fueled aggression. It started with discrimination,then physical attacks,then organized battles ,then all out war and then genocide.

There are detailed information of last months of war documented in most of the local and international media up to daily or at lest weekly resolution. It did not just disappear suddenly as it feels like seen in this video. It was a fully determined and well executed process rather than previous attempts of bruteforce.

Its not true the trapped civilians lack access to food and medicine. It is true about the shelter, But the food medicine and medical services were provided by the Sri Lankan government indiscriminately. Cement and other building materials were also accessible to everybody, but the LTTE made bunkers out of the relief goods instead of making housing for people.

Whats with the 1970-2010 period that a lot of countries had civil wars
End of colonialism mixed in with the Cold War, Socialists and Fascists/Nationalists/Capitalists fought for the fate of their newly freed country creating many civil wars like in Vietnam, Cambodia, Laos, Angola, Mozambique, South Africa, Zimbabwe, Turkey, Palestine, Iraq, Lebanon, Nepal, Sri Lanka, Cuba etc. Other examples of countries inspired by instances above: Peru, Nicaragua, El Salvador, Guatemala, Mexico. Then after the fall of Socialism in Europe and much of Asia, even more conflict began between Fascist/Nationalist groups about what direction their country should go. e.g. Croatia, Bosnia, Kosovo, Slovenia, Macedonia, Moldova/Pridnestrovie, Ukraine, Abkhazia, Ichkeria, Ossetia, Ingushetia, Dagestan, Karabakh, Tajikistan, and Afghanistan.

He has nothing to do with Srilankan Tamil issues, Mistakenly included his map. He lived on the same period in the Sathyamangalam forest covers of Tamil nadu(India). He involved in the cauvery river water dispute problems and murdered Karnataka politician for water. He smuggled Sandalwoods and helped his People in the nearby areas with those money. @Mathew John You are wrong. That is The southern part of Kaafu Atoll in the Maldives, which is where the capital island Malé is. There was a coup attempt by someone who paid Tamil Elam mercenaries. They probably agreed in order to secure more funds for the war . India sent troops in response and defeated them but they didn't actually occupy the region so I guess they're coloured in as part of "and allies" and not as Indian controlled terroritory.

@@nvk2391 I don't know you are a Sri Lankan or not but the Sinhala language is the main language used in Sri Lanka and it is only found in Sri Lanka. So giving the country's own language its correct place by making the Sinhala language, the official language and also appointing other languages as co-official languages is not bad. That's the final answer. We can't blame the leader (hon.SWRD Bandaranaike)because of civilians extremist actions .

Sri Lanka faced a civil war for nearly 30 years. Separatist Tamil Tiger terrorists spread terror in Sri Lanka. Young children were abducted and used for terrorist activities. People were massacred in the villages. Terrorists have used brutal suicide bombers to claim many lives. In 1991, Indian Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi and Sri Lankan President Premadasa were assassinated by suicide bombers. Towards the end of the war in 2009, these terrorists used the Tamil people in the North as human shields, killing and dismantling all civilians who disobeyed them. Later, the Sri Lankan Army killed all the terrorists and killed the terrorist leader. The various NGOs that aided and abetted this terrorist organization are still haunting Europe. Also, some of the terrorists who fled during the war have been caught by the Interpol from time to time while carrying out drug trafficking, human trafficking and money laundering.
I dont agree with the ltte however the tamils were the victims.
Even though I was born after the war, I don't think the detail of a Tamil baby being thrown into hot tar will ever erase from my mind..
