  • The Islamic State is a uniquely violent and extreme group that formed long before the Iraqi Civil War, originally created by Al-Qaeda through uniting Al-Qaeda affiliates during sectarian violence in Iraq between 2006 and 2008, the group was crushed and subsequently initiated an insurgency against the Iraqi government, in April 2013, the Islamic State attempted to take control of the Syrian-based group, Al-Nusra, which led to a power struggle and fighting among the two groups, meanwhile, fighting in Iraq would intensify as sectarian violence increased in the same month, eventually the Islamic State would exploit that violence and trigger the Iraqi Civil War.

      To be fair we still helped Iraqi forces during the war against ISIS, for example we bombed ISIS forces in Syria and Iraq.

      @@awaf12 The Islamic State suffered tens of thousands of casualties and a military defeat due in large part to those airstrikes. U.S. forces haven't intentionally struck civilians, but there are always civilian casualties in war. The Russians have unintentionally done the same, yet nobody gives them shit about it. Personal agendas are clear, you people are pathetic.

      It was war since 2011 in the west and Mosul .......2 army divisions brought to Mosul in 2014 unaware of the situation plus the second federal police division which have Humvees and BMPs which was the most qualified already exhausted by two years in fights on the boards of the Mosul and heavy casualties ...... the local police and important personal (judges, media and others ) were being assassinated since 2011 by hundreds thus the city was weak with the right flank was not in control of Iraq by 2014 ..... and in 9/6/1/2014 Saudi suicider with fuel tanker rushed to the head quarters and killed and destroyed many vihecles ........ It was chaos then with the federal police retreated to Arbil but the treason from the kurds who a abandoned the Azides made few men try to the end to give refugees time to evacuate by hilcopters and the Kurds didn't just withdraw but the attacked Karkuk ......also the army was fighting a larger war in anbar and Falluja ....... The remaining of the two army divisions from Mosul was surprised by the fall of Tikreet (Salah Al Deen ) by the Sunni tribes who mass killed more than 2000 cedets ..... they then withdraw to Baghdad and all of this happened and USA was watching when we already had a treaty for combined defence...... even when we asked for aircrafts f16 then said it takes two years that's is for Isisreal eyes...... but with Russia and allies we stood ...... but it was for our clerk Al Sistani ......that man called the people to take arms against the demons ...... he was the one who gave hope after lossing it ...... As most of us in Iraq find taking life is big crime against humanity and God but he made us think it is us or those monsters

    Btw, was the Free Iraqi Army like the FSA in Syria? Did they have the same goal (putting a democracy and an end to a Tyrant)?

      They had direct ties to the FSA, and wanted to overthrow the Shia-dominated government.
      Though to be fair they were Sunni Islamist with alleged ties to Al-Qaeda (No solid evidence but ya know).

      Most of these militias only had support in the small regions in which they were based and disintegrated after ISIS started a full scale war in Iraq.

    From 1991 to 2003 the embargo by America and more than 70 countries
    More than a million people died in the siege
    During the period between 1991 and 2003, the US-led coalition army bombed Baghdad and the Iraqi army
    Until they bombed the Al-Amiriya shelter at four in the morning, killing 409, most of them children and women
    From 2003 to 2011 occupation, bombing and explosions
    In 2007 and 2008 there was a street war
    In 2011, the US forces left
    She returned in 2014 to the ISIS war
    The ISIS war ended in 2018

    The Iraqi civil war did not end with the fall of IS, it just became a civil war betwen the shia-islam, pro-iranian militia, and the rest of the iraqians (the iraqian kurds and the arabian sunni-muslims of Iraq).

      It notes that the Qandil Mountains has been the main headquarters for the PKK for a while now, plus Saddam Hussein supported the PKK as well.

      Regardless, both Turkey and Saudi Arabia have attacked and killed ISIS fighters, so take what you will.
