      Soggycereal I think the general public has been trained to think that these kinds of results are only achievable through sculpting.
      I'm probably as confused as you are, really. Like... it's just poly mesh modeling.

      It's not.
      Poly modeling is still important and the most efficient way for *some* tasks.
      In terms of bodies and faces, it's inefficient.
      The video shows someone who has great skill and it's absolutely amazing at poly modeling, but it's not the way I'd advise anyone to do it.

      @@neemis7796 Yup, doing this way is very impractical in a work environment with client changes, its way faster to sculpt then do the retopo when client lock. I mainly use as a hobby, and following the strict rules of poly modeling can break ones creativity

    this was actually so helpful to watch. i'm in school for game dev and we try to limit sculpting as much as possible to keep models low in tris. watching this gave me some great ideas on how to make organic looking faces without sculpting. i dont even use blender (we use maya) but the concepts translate super well. thank you!

      I think they still used poly modeling with their characters in PS2 games. I think so, cause all the details were made by painting. There were no normal map.

    Doing this on Freehand without concept in the background is so nice. Blender looks so much more smooth then 3D Smax that i use. But you sure inspire me to keep working

    What I love about polygonal modeling is the fact that it's the essence of 3D art. 3D sculpting is also beautiful, as it simulate real clay. But polygonal modeling doesnt immitate any form of art. It`s unique by nature.

    I literally tried doing this earlier today and failed.
    I'm lost at what to do, I can't get it to look how I want. Granted, it's still better than outright sculpting, I can handle geometry better with coordinates than with a sculpting brush.
    I've learned a decent amount from this video, so thanks.

    Great job! When it comes to Blender i prefer to do characters this way and not with sculpting. I found it when i realise my computer wasn't powerful enough to handle the sculpting and I had to work around it . :)
