Here’s how the trick is done. If you watch very carefully as he collects the deck, right after placing all 5 cards into it, you will notice that he is a level 10 wizard. This trait allows him to perform magical acts that we can’t begin to fathom
@@xqr_ the deck is in complete order already all the shuffles and cuts are false for example up the ladder and the push through shuffle and also the gamblers combit
This guy was in some movies I remember. Boogie Nights. I recognized his face. Didn’t know he was so good at card magic. Checked his IMDB page and it said he died last year. RIP Ricky Jay
Actually, while Rick is a great master, a lot of the switches and fake tosses are visible even on this old blurry video. Whole routine is brilliant though...
This trick is great, because it is fundamentally really simple: all he does is not mixing the cards. They are presented in exactly the order they were in the deck. The brilliance lies in tricking the audience that he thoroughly mixes the cards. He never does.
I feel like this is just perfect execution of a perfect technique. If you riffle shuffle a deck twice (flawlessly, and alternate which half has the card at the bottom of the shuffle) you get the deck back in perfect order. Note, his first two shuffles alternated. So essentially, those first two shuffles didn't matter. The next 4 riffle shuffles were all on the same side. So two cards are moved rotated out of order from the top to the bottom. So basically what I'm saying, unless he is palming something, I think he has worked out the math, and making perfect execution. Which is wildly impressive.
You’re right that it’s a perfect execution of a perfect technique, but two perfect riffle shuffles will only get you a quarter of the way - to restore the original deck order you need to perform eight perfect riffle shuffles (with some fake cuts and fake shuffles thrown in as well). This performance is amazing.
If anyone is wondering how he did it, he switches the decks at 1:55 when it goes out of camera shot. Then he just pretends to shuffle the cards to throw you off. Still very impressive though
It's great to hear no BS, no obnoxious, loud techno garbage. No, "HERE'S YER BOI RICKY JAY BACK ATCHA WITH ANOTHER VIDEO! REMEMBER TO SMASH LIKE AND SUBSCRIBE!"
Pretty sure it's prosthetics on the forearms. They look misshapen to begin with, and then you can see the skin jut out abnormally very late in the video. He's really good, but at least I now know where he keeps his doubles!
He was in 2 shows ive seen. An episode of the x files and a movie with sam elliott called the ranger ,the cook and a hole in the sky and in both he he did card tricks. I do know he was in more shows though.
There is something about the old sound of the camera and quality that just make the asmr even better
Lo-Fi. Sounds 10x better.

Love the “I’m the man” look he gives at the end.

Lol I actually know how he does it maybe because I my self am a magician but yea he’s still very good and deceptive with everything he does

Wrong, he is a warlock and he has casted an illusion spell on you. You are bewitched
Steve martin has been 60 since he was 20
Wtf?
Lol I was wondering the same thing. Since I was a kid he always had that white hair
That is so horrible but so true XD
I was thinking the same thing lol. He's one of those guys like "colin mochrie" who seem to stay the same age for your entire life.
I love that he doesn't have to talk. No bullshit, just talent.
Sometimes bullshit is part of the talent, it's called showmanship.
Seems like a stupid video to me. “Magic” is fucking lame bro.

Yep. RIP. Ricky Jay wasn't just good. He was a master sleight of hand artist.
Also in an episode of the x files. Cool guy
Magnolia...
I loved him in the movie heist with gene hackman great movie
Jim Owen
Mamet used him a lot. So did PTA. RIP Kurt Longjohn
the way he slams half the deck on top of the other commands respect.
It's actually a way to distract and hide the fake cut he is making.
But it has the added power you mentioned
I have seen this video dozens and dozens of times.
And I have finally realized...I don't care how he did it.
It's just such a work of art to behold.
☮
I think the trick is that there is no trick. He's just that good.
There is nothing unintentional about this. This man knew exactly what he was doing. Some of the best asmr you’ll ever find

He has to split the deck with one hand. What am I looking at?
Eggchin X Just trying to show you how the trick was done my man... thanks for being gracious
Jack Hubbard It just shows how that trick was done
Yep. It’s quite a well known trick now, but at the time this was mind boggling. Ricky was special.
It goes from “oh that’s pretty cool” to “wait what the” in seconds and it’s brilliant
Ricky jay was the best card mechanic to ever walk the earth
This trick is great, because it is fundamentally really simple: all he does is not mixing the cards. They are presented in exactly the order they were in the deck. The brilliance lies in tricking the audience that he thoroughly mixes the cards. He never does.
I think that's it. He's shown how fake shuffles are done and I thought I recognized it here. The guy is brilliant.
even beyond the trick itself whats super fascinating is how he appears to give these cards more weight than they have with his hand movements

Even Mothman takes a minute to admire Ricky Jay's artistry.
this was the first video to ever give me asmr, I remember watching this so long ago. Ever since then card tricks were a trigger
This man is the embodiment of the saying "dont clap....just throw money"
What a treat it would have been to see him at a live performance
Yeah, I cried. I quite honestly think this is the best trick ever put to film
Ben and Teller would have ran out the room in panic! This was the best performance I've ever seen!!

Bro, what the hell did I just witness? That was incredible! Probably the best card magic I have ever seen.
This guy is so cool when he goes to bed sheep count him!
But can he do the thing?
The plan was as cute as pailful of kittens

However there were cuts. So this is unlikely (1:55 he swaps hands, 3:40 deck on the left gets bigger).
