I have to say, these videos that Elgato put out are extremely vague and breeze over important stuff I feel. However, their technical support over the phone are amazing and have all the patience in the world. Just wish that these videos had a bit more.
I have a PS4 Pro. When plugging the HDMI into HD60-X, I got a black screen. I had to uncheck "Enable HDCP" in the System settings menu of the PS4. Also, I had gotten a red blinking light on the HD60-X, so I moved the USB from the front ports of the PC to the back motherboard ports. That fixed it for me. GL!
This really helped me out thanks:)
Great video thanks for making it nice and simple
If anyone is getting a black screen in OBS like I was there are two things you will want to do. First, make sure the USB cord that is plugged into your PC is hooked up to the USB 3.0 dark/navy blue color USB port. This is important. The "regular" older 2.0 USB port (black/not colored) may not work. In my case, it was hooked up with the teal color USB port which is actually a newer 3.1 USB port. This let me hear the audio from the game and the game would show up on my monitor, but the passthrough did not show up on my PC via OBS or the Elgato 4k capture software. For some reason, the HD60X supports USB type C to UBS 3.0 passthrough but not USB 3.1.
The other thing is to make sure you are not running the Elgato 4k Capture software while also trying to view the game in OBS. Turn the capture software off. Go into your command prompt and make sure it is not running in the background. Uninstall if needed to be 100% sure this is not the issue. Hope this helps someone.
I have no USB 3.0 ports on my PC, I have 6 USB 3.2 ports and I am having the same Black Screen issue. You think this is what causing the problem? I've been looking for solutions all over the internet for hours, this is so frustrating. If you have any idea on what the problem could be for me, I'd appreciate it a lot.
@@QetMex It probably is. For me, after I switched to a 3.0 port it worked just fine. If you have a newer motherboard with no 3.0 or older ports then you will probably need to run to Best Buy or Walmart and get a USB bridge that was 3.0 ports on it or some adapter. Ideally, you could test it on a laptop or something first that has a 3.0 USB port.
@@Chris349 alright, thanks for the reply!

@@Chris349 Hello, can you tell me what exactly you bought please?
Thank you for your help, I was struggling to get sound for my HD60 X to work with my obs. It had sound on the 4k recording software, but not on obs. The solution was to open the 4k capture software and go to settings/device then change the audio output to analog and apply, it before changing it back to HDMI and applying it again. then close the 4k software and open obs. that with your instructions worked.
have you figured out a way to hear your pc audio and game audio at the same time? when i game on the capture card i cant hear any of my chat alerts or my pc audio in general. i would use the obs audio source monitoring, but there's almost a 2 second delay

i figured it out. ill be making a video about it soon , for now mute you capture card source, then create another audio input source, choose your elgato as the input source, now monitor that audio. no delay
your comment saved me. Thank you
If you have Mac make sure to use you’re hardware encoder for streaming.
I'm a fucking idiot, I was clicking on game capture option in OBS instead of video capture device. Thanks for the video. You've earned a sub and a like.
“We suggest keeping all settings at their default for the best experience.”
I would appreciate telling exactly which settings you are talking about.
So on my end, no other app is using my hd60x other than OBS, but even though my ps4 is hooked up the right way, I get no video or audio in display. Any fix for that?
Game video an audio didn't appear on OBS. But it pass through just fine on Elgato 4K utility software just fine. What's wrong.
Are there any benifits what so ever, using this card on a single PC setup? any performance increase compared to raw OBS (Nvenc encoding of course, always) or anything else that makes it worth a single PC setup?
If you are streaming PC content and only have one PC, then a capture card won't provide too many benefits. In some cases you can bypass certain capture restrictions like with Destiny 2. But otherwise you'll be adding more complexity to the setup. Using the local Game Source Capture or Window Capture is the way to go.
If I use wireless headset, will my audio still be pulled into obs for recording? Don't really care for party chat, just wanna be able to use my headset and not have to monitor output
my captured card hd60x out of the nowhere stopped working wanted to record a gameplay on my ps5 and all i get is black screen idk why if everything was working fine i do get image on my ps5 monitor while having my HDMI in and out of the captured card i get audio on obs as well i can see the green light moving i just don't get image on obs ive tried everything i see on youtube nothing seems to work thinking on trying on a new one to see if that's the issue
I have an issue of audio and video going out of sync over time. What should I do to fix this?
This can be used to capture from the MiSTer?
Had my Elgato HD60X few days ago. My Elgato just flashes red light or none. I have tried different USB 3.0 C cable & HDMIs. Plugging and unplugging it. Still the same outcome.
how can i Fix the black screen with iphone on elgato hd60x ?
My monitor wont connect with my ps4 i plugged in an HDMI IN- and OUT Put but it isnt working any ideas?
I did everything correctly and only my voice is being brought through on OBE. No gameplay is being shown or game audio. Think anyone can help?
Hi I have a quick question. I’m having problem of adding my ps5 capture via the video capture option on obs (shows no footage). Though I can add it through window capture, and I kind of have to keep it fullscreen at all time to make it work properly. Help please..
Did u figure it out?
Any idea why the elgato source may freeze constantly in obs? Had an issue with it for a while. Will randomly just stop mid stream/recording but no indication of any issues prior to it happening
Have you found a solution? I'm having the same problem
I think I fixed it by plugged the usb into a 3.0 behind the pc instead of on the top. Haven't had freezes yet.
Mines freezes as well 😢
How do I download the 4K capture utility on Mac ? I only see the windows version, and also the chat link cable does a good job picking up my party audio to obs, but makes my audio very quiet.
Hi Kappa 4K,
4K Capture Utility is only available on Windows at this time. OBS Studio is the next best option for macOS users with HD60 X.
@@ElgatoWorkshop Any updates on when it will be available for Mac?
How are you hearing game audio when I plug my headset in my controller OBS goes mute
I have the same issue. The chat audio is very quiet compared to the game audio and that's not how I have it set going through my headset. Every time I adjust it, I still get the same recorded levels of super loud gameplay and super soft chat. Any resolutions? I see this comment was 10 months ago. Please let me know!
How do I change the capture resolution? The default seems to be 1080p60. But how can I change the resolution it's feeding to my pc without transforming the source? I'm on a PS5 -> HD60X -> Windows PC. No Mic/Headset in this setup.
If you're on OBS Studio, then you'd change the capture resolution by going into the OBS Studio settings, then go into the Video tab. Then change your output size. This will change the resolution of the video file or stream created.
Does it support smartphone to pc streaming ???
when I add the HD60 as my video capture device its not bringing any audio with it?
It says HD60X does not support input signal upscaling. Please reduce the device output resolution. Any help with this
Hello Elgato Team! I use the hd60x with the 4k capture utility and I want to record gameplay with my phone but when I plug everything it my phone's frame rates drop insanely and it starts lagging really bad, I also use an HDMI splitter because otherwise it doesn't work to record my phone screen. What might be the problem that causes my phone to lag, can you help me please. Thank you!
Hi there,
This *could* be an issue if the phone supports a 4K30hz output but normally runs at 1080p60 or 1080p120 on the display.
The phone may try switching to 4K thinking that it's ideal for displaying video on a TV. Are you on Windows or macOS?
@@ElgatoWorkshop Hello again and thank you for answering me! I use Windows. When I use the 4k capture utility if I connect the hdmi cable from the capture hd60x directly to my phone it doesn't work so I need to connect that cable to the hdmi splitter and then with another cable to connect it to my phone in order to work. But if I use OBS studio it works connecting the hdmi cable directly from hd60x to my phone and I don't have any lag but the quality is blurred unfortunately so I need to connect it again to the hdmi splitter în order to have a good quality but then it starts lagging again. I have an OnePlus 9 Pro which has a screen refresh rate of 120hz and supports 90fps.
Would there be any way to fix the black screen on OBS when I select HD60 X under devices? I get no video and the only workaround I have for this is opening 4K Capture Utility and record that from OBS using a Display Capture.
Hi Saber,
HD60 X is only accessible in one program at a time. It's possible that another program is using the device (causing the black image). Possibly make sure that 4K Capture utility isn't running in the background. You can open Task Manager, go to the details/processes tab and look for 4Kcaptureutility.exe.
@@ElgatoWorkshop Why?? Sounds like you need to first create a FAQs guide on this firmware flaw so that customers aren't racking their heads trying to figure out why video isn't showing up in OBS. Then you should update the firmware to enable viewing from OBS and 4K Capture Utility.
@@Ntronicx UVC / USB Video Class devices like HD60 S+, HD60 X, Facecam, etc support one application at a time.

I am playing and streaming from one PC. I know I have to plug in a HDMI cable to my video card's HDMI out. But where do I plug the other one into? Or can I use the USB cable to stream the data out to OBS Studio?
The USB Connection is where the captured video is sent to your computer and to software such as OBS Studio or 4K Capture Utility.
If you're capturing from PC, you don't necessarily have to use the HDMI out port. If you're using a cloned/display method, then you already have a lag-free display to play on. Your main monitor. HDMI Out would be needed if you're placing your HD60 X between your PC and monitor.
Can I use HD60 X to Capture PC gameplay or is it only meant for Consoles? I haven't been able to get game audio for the longest and it's driving me insane.
Hi Ardent,
you certainly can use HD60 X or any of our capture cards for PC. For PC, you'll need to make sure that the computer is outputting audio to the HD60 X. Or you can also use any sort of other methods of sending audio from your gaming PC to the capture PC, could be NDI Audio, 3.5mm stereo cables, etc.
@@ElgatoWorkshop I'm honestly not too sure. I also own the HD60 S+ and game audio works fine, but I think that's because of the Sound Capture application that has an option for PC gaming. Sadly thats not compatible with the HD60 X and 4k Utility doesnt really have any option for that. I can set up all the settings Go into my sounds and playback settings, and hear what i'm suppose to hear but the game audio is just not being captured. The bar on the bottom right never moves. I've searched around and it seems like a common problem some are having, but no real solution to it. Thank you for the help.
@@ArdentTake The way I do it is have the pc and console hdmi out cables go into a hdmi hub, the hub output into the capture card, that way it captures the display feed no matter what is going through the hub. The only issue is sound for pc on obs is a separate source.

Hi LethalLancer,
Yes! Though it's most consistent with iPhone and iPad. Android device capture is more complex since there are so many models and so many different ways they function.
Hi! My HD60 X has yellow tint in OBS and for confirmation in Elgato 4k Capture Utility as well using SDR. Where it is possible to find fix?
found fix hopefully - in Capture Utility find line called EDID (inside)and set from default to 1080p, everything in colours looks perfect now.
Hey ledzh,
Are you capturing your computer or a console? Yellow/amber tint from a computer sometimes can be due to Night Mode on Windows where it warms the image to make it easier on the eyes. This is then captured by the card. Changing the EDID makes the computer think it's a new display and perhaps that reset it function. If the issue comes back, double check to see if Night Mode is on in Windows Display Settings.

On your PlayStation go settings > system> TURN OFF HDCP
obs detect this device on linux? if yes i buy it
It may detect HD60 X since it is a USB Video Class compliant device, however we don't officially support Linux with our products and we wouldn't be able to provide guidance.
Can I do mobile live streaming with this??? Please answer me fast 🙏🙏🙏 i want to buy
Mobile live streaming, like using the phone to run the streaming software instead of a computer? That is not something we support.
How to fix audio that sounds like I’m under the water
Why does my monitor go black?
does anyone else just never get audio when they input their HD60X, i’ve tried literally everything. somehow it works on streamlabs but everything i’ve tried on OBS has failed
Do you see any activity on the audio meters for the HD60 X in OBS Studio?
You might need to manually add the HD60 X as an audio input separately if it's not coming through by default.
@@ElgatoWorkshop i’ve tried that and nothing has worked lol
why is my screen black on obs?
Is there a way to get HDR to SDR in OBS?
Hi MGTEKNS,
If 4K Capture Utility is closed, HD60 X will automatically tonemap HDR to SDR for OBS Studio. By default there is nothing you need to do.
Are you seeing something that looks incorrect for you?
@@ElgatoWorkshop OBS feed looks flat as if there was no conversion applied.
Similar to what you get on a camera shooting flat log footage.
@@MGTEKNS Do you happen to have 4K Capture Utility open? Normally, when 4KCU is open it will turn off the Hardware Tonemapping so that you can record HDR.
However, you can also force HW tonemapping on if you have no need to record HDR.
@@ElgatoWorkshop No I don’t have 4K capture utility open. Although HDR to SDR is working normally on your software just not in OBS. How do I force OBS to convert HDR to SDR?
Every time i go to 4K it freezes
slow down an go over wiring. im gaming on desktop. an want to use the laptop to stream. describe how to do it. im perplexed.
When I plug my headset in my controller everyone on OBS goes mute

my audio sounds like a robot sometimes why?
Obs isnt recognising my hd60 x card it just freezes the whole program when I click it as a video source...
Hi Vanguard,
Sorry to hear about that. Please message our support team and we can figure out what might be happening with your system, OBS Studio, and HD60 X. e.lga.to/help
@Elgato Workshop found a work around for it. I had to 'deactivate' the card when loading it then reactivate the video feed to get it to work. Otherwise it loaded my laptop camera and would constantly freeze the program.
I get this card, and i have some problems with sound. Popping and cracking. I Just update the firmware but this dont fix my problem 😔😔😔
I use this card for recording ps5 games.
Reinstal Windows dont fix problem, reinstal drivers too 😔update firmware dont fix the problem...
Hi, this could also be due to a USB problem. Try different USB ports. But if a firmware update or Windows reinstall hasn't helped, our team would need more information.
Please email us here: e.lga.to/help and we can collect more information from the system.
@@ElgatoWorkshop i try every single USB port on my pc, this doesn't help for me.
Obs does not detect my elgato device abd I can not understand why
Hi Guillem,
Is this the HD60 X? Are you on Windows?
When you connect it to your system, do the lights turn on?
@@ElgatoWorkshop Hello!
Yes, HD60 X, Windows 10 and a red light turns on (it blinks). My HDMI cannot be damaged or something because I was using another hardware for the same use (Avermedia) and it was detected. There is not software for HD60X so I use OBS for record.
@@guillem6018 Oh ok, so this is on macOS then. Make sure that macOS is allowing software to access cameras. Since HD60 X acts a bit like a camera to the computer this may be blocking access.

@ElgatoWorkshop I managed to figure it out and it works now, just doesn't work with my ps4, but it's okay.
