Experts said that ML is a great motivation for FZD to keep improving his game. But I think that FZD also motivates ML to stay on top of his form because he realizes that Fan will crash him immediately once ML drop his level.

When someone pushes ML's boundaries he answers and adapts as needed. Half of the match they looked like playing practice and enjoying the drills, amazing stuff.

Ma is simply better in every strokes: topspin, block, chopblock, serve, return, forehand and backhand. His record against Fan Zhendong is now 14 won and 2 lost (never in grand finals or wttc). His ability and winning ratio is not comparable with any other players in modern history (no Waldner, no Wang Liqin, no Liu Gouliang). Ma long is simply the best player ever born.
If Ma stays healthy, he and Fan will be the 1-2 PRC punch for the Olympics next summer.
Ma Longs is not muchubetter in terms of tecnique but what makes him better than Fan is his adaptability and tactics.
Gabriel Weissenbach agree, he can change plan after 1 set, even if he has lost it, but he always make more pressure on opponent close to the end of match.

Ma Long was injured last year and he couldn't defend his points. So his ranking dropped.
Fan tried to force Ma Long to use backhand, but today Ma's backhand was almost perfect
it's not perfect because it cannot initiate powerful attacks without using opponent's force/spin. so that's kinda a defensive backhand but it's super stable . ma long's main weapon is still the fh

Matches like these really spoil my appetite to watch anything else. What is the human body capable of..just out of this world
Glad to see the familiar MA LONG come back! Even this is not his prime form, I am still happy to see he try to gain more control and find efficient ways without moving so much( in terms of his condition) to generate his killing shots against even Fan Zhendong.
Fan Zhendong... still love you. Dont be disheartened by this loss.. you will be the world champion.. i have faith in you.
Realistically, it appears that Fan would have to wait until Ma Long retires to have any chances to win big tourneys. But there's also a possibility he might be surpassed by other guys in the team, such as Liang Jinkun by then.
What a comeback from Ma Long recent few months, this match absolutely no hurry to go forehand and play , he is fighting back hand with fan Zhang who is master of back hand , exceptional talent , what a player , he's hard work practice reflects in the game , a true genius

Always a treat to eyes to watch this two battle against each other.Ma long's backhand has become stronger.He is not forcing his forehand and playing a lot of backhand rally confidently and making no mistakes and making differences easily.
It's ironic and sad only one of them can go through. So much work, top skill and focus. Long heard that China open is much tougher than WTTC and it feels like so. Regardless who wins, we have got fantastic table tennis actions for sure. Thanks to all involved here to make this event (& upload) possible.
Match of the year !
When I saw the duration of this match highlights it already gave me this sign that it would be epic. and without the shadow of a doubt, it is.
We all remember, After the victory of 2015 wttc in shuzhou, ML won all the tournaments he attended till 2016 Olympic, with the 2016 Korean open being the only exception, where he narrowly lost to xu xin in the final. It seems to me that he is now starting to repeat that history of glory. Go! The dragon, once more!
This is probably even better than 2017 wttc final
Ma Long is so consistent that he's able to keep his posture even when imbalance or reaching for the ball. Looking at game 4, he's probably the strongest in defense too, never seen anyone else countering FZD's attack like that.
Ma long is on fire in this tournament , this is one of the best matches I've seen just wow .. Hope he will win
ZJK is my all-time favourite player, but Ma Long is just continuing to show why he’s the GOAT

Yalla Då Waldner is one of my favourites too, but he has been surpassed by Ma Long now. There’s really no more legitimate arguments for anyone else being over ML.

Jason Li we will see in the future if ma long will reach a semifinal in the Olympic Games when he is 38 years old. Like Waldner did. We will see if he will go into a semifinal 17 years after his debut in a world championship final in single.

Ma Long's backhand has really improved over the years. Not quite on ZJK's level but he is there and not to mention he has a monster forehand and I dare say it is the best in the world till date.
Uchiha Madara well, on this match, his BH was superior to FDZ's BH who is not shabby.
Actually, it seems ma long is now peaking instead of regressing.
I've never seen him play that level and he needs to cause FDZ is an incredible player.

@@financialliberty2381 he is not peaking. he is past his prime which was from 2010- 2012. opponents were much tougher back then and smarter as well. ever wondered why he could never beat wang hao at wttc events, especially 2011 when ma long was unbeatable. just watch his matches from 2008 to 2012 and you will see the real ma long. just because he has won 3 wttc in a row doesn't mean he is getting better.

This is the WTTC 2019 semi final that we missed. This was gonna be the result has ML faced FZD instead of LJ.
Q Pham Yeah but I think it was okay, now we saw him beat LJ, Lin, and Fan in basically a month, he may face Xx in the final and beat him also so we may se him prove (once again) that he is still the best.

I became very good at Ping Pong -, but it was not considered a serious spot in the US in the 90s.I also was given something that really helped me--a younger brother that also enjoyed it and was good.We would play for hours--days--years.In my 40s now and thinking about getting back into it.
Ma Long is super focused and consistent. Fan while having the same level of technique is lacking Ma Long's consistency. Heck, everybody is. That is why Ma Long is the best ever.
They are really close! Fan Zhendong is the future!
No one can really argue these two players are in the same league when their head-to-head record is so lopsided. Fan is a very good player, but Ma Long is the GOAT.
Almost all their encounters have been with mostly close games or a full 7 games, but ma long has the slight edge that wins him these matches

It's crazy. Fan Zhendong is playing very well but down 0-9 in game 1. Fan is playing some great points, but Ma Long is the greatest that ever played. And clearly, Ma has confidence against Fan.

As we can see that Fan Zhengdong's back hand is no longer advantage to Ma Long, Ma long defeats Fan Zhengdong's back hand by Ma Long back hand. Meanwhile, Ma Long 's forehand is always superior than Fan Zhengdong's . We are really worried for the future of Fan Zhengdong.

Actually Timo is right. He is a monster especially is forehand is exceptional. But this day I believe that Ma Long becomes more controlled, more on precision, more on tactics and just brute power. Which makes him more scarier than before.

I can’t really say this for certain but sometimes it feels like fan zhendong still has not fully developed that tactical game and is sometimes left in an awkward position, a great player nonetheless
