What a match&congratulation for Ma Long! Reminded me of WTTC 2009 Wang Liqin VS Ma Lin. Two experienced players, physically off their prime, but still the best in the world. Old but gold it is!
Great match. Both of them played magnificently and deserves their names. After almost 1 year break, Ma Long had beaten world #5, #10 and #2 in succession and without much difficulty. Simply unbelievable.
That was really really exciting to watch live. These two are beasts, two sides of the same coin. Hope they can keep playing like this and pushing the game forward for a while longer.

Still till this day, these men are old like anybody else, but on the sheer power of pure will, dedication and unstoppable commitment towards the sport they keep rising above obstacles and transcend human levels of greatness. One word. LEGENDS.
Yeah I noticed that too. Its like he chanfed his playing style. Not so many forehand topspins and rallies and much more backhand and consistency. Its kinda weird seeing him play like that and boring sometimes but hey if it works for him then so be it.
Like he became very choose while attacking a ball... probably waiting for right ball to finish... that's why I can easily see no big rally...all are kind of third ball finish...

Ma long is really good at rallies and handling balls with good momentum. Xuxin was trying to play dead and short and weird balls mixing it with random spin shots so Ma long found it hard to deal with. Basically Xu xin is really good at breaking Ma long's timing. As when ma long plays with any of the faster counter driving youngsters like FZD*, Liang JK and such he doesn't struggle so much. Xu xin also struggles a lot with Ma long because one he is smart and two he switches gears all the time. He can adjust to situations much better than any player in the CNT.

It’s quite difficult to smash with harder sponge. A lot of players use springier sponge on their backhands because your backhand is less powerful and you need the help, and it is much easier to smash with.
