I literally cried, as a history buff, watching Notre Dame burn. It was devastating. And knowing how close it came to collapse…all credit to those masons that built that beautiful building and the firefighters that saved it. This was a great documentary. My favorite book, Pillars of the Earth, made me interested in the construction of these magnificent pieces of art. I hope to see it with my own eyes one day. Thank you for posting this.

Oh I know how you feel I'm an American and have never seen it in person but I am deeply committed to learning history, especially European. I was just wondering about the wood that survived. I hope they used this wood over as much as possible or allowed it to be used to create revenue by fashioning into religious objects etc

I walked through Notre Dame in 1982. What a magnificent building. To see it burn broke my heart but to see the reconstruction nearing completion is a remarkable achievement. I was watching a documentary on SBS here in Australia presented by Lucy Worsley and the attention to detail is fantastic.

I cried when I saw this. Was at work and a friend told me, Notre Dame is on fire. I thought she was joking, then I looked on my phone and I just cried. As a French, it is the symbol of Paris, plus having taken groups as a conference guide for 17 years, I was heartbroken. Now seeing it restored to its magnificence, makes me proud and happy!

Moi aussi! I am French-American born just a few years after the end of WW II. While the first responders and artists, engineers, and architects did a heroic job, the finished interior looks Disneyfied to any one who spent hundreds if not thousands of hours at Notre Dame since childhood.

I’m a history nut. I’m also Catholic. As I watched Notre Dame burn, I was in tears. Since then, I’ve watched videos like this and been amazed with the masons of 8 centuries past, who erected such a beautiful and stalwart structure. It’s been fascinating also seeing the “archeology of Notre Dame.

Having been blessed to travel the world, of all the amazing places I visited, Paris is the place that changed my life. I have visited many times and fallen in love with so much of France, but Paris vibrates with a special magic that leaves you haunted, and longing to return. Not personally religious, each of my visits requires a visit to Notre Dame, to check on it and say I’m back for more magic and art. To see her burn, I was sure was the death of me. I have not visited since she burned, but will return when she is back to her old self!

Although I do not believe in organized religion, I do have a strong spiritual core. That I believe everything has a beginning and comes from something. The original builders cut down massive oaks, leaving the trunk to grow back. In 50 or 60 years, the tree was ready to be used again. The soul of Notre Dame is restored, when rebuilding the 'forest roof', they return and utilize the trees left by the original generation.

On August 6, 2019, two Chinese architects won the "Heartbeat of Paris" design in the Notre Dame de Paris reconstruction competition. At that time, the "Heartbeat of Paris" proposal proposed by ZEYU CAI and SIBEI LI from China won the Notre Dame de Paris roofline architectural competition. The highlight of the proposal is the use of magnetic levitation technology to design a "time capsule" device on the tower. The time capsule floats up and down and opens once every half a century, hence the name "Heartbeat of Paris". This design stood out among 226 proposals from 56 countries and received more than 30,000 votes.

God you could say prevented it from completely burning down. It could have been far far worse. So god was sending a message that humans aren’t damned.

Honestly I have never been impressed with the catholic religion . But Not really Dame was unique. The architecture of these old structures are priceless. I remember it was said it wouldn't be rebuilt and finished till 2050. That was a crock of shit.
As they said it is wealth and had huge income. That's what Notre Dame is a money pit. The key is money take note the word God was never said in the documentary. It is a place of hope prayer and worship for people. I think keeping it as original is the key.
Although it's historical and each day adds to it's history. What don't like is how they lied about taking until 2050 . They should have said unknown how long and how much could be saved. I'm not your most religious person but I realize the importance to the people. Prayer is good no matter where it is.
Have they forgotten the Virgin Mary appeared in a dump. She appeared to Bernadette now known as Saint Bernadette. By the way the movie made about Saint Bernadette original movie is one of the most well made movies. A dear friend Joseph Barret/ known as Joey brought the movie to me to see.it changed my life.

What on earth does the religion have to do with the architecture. Your analysis is convoluted and rambling. What is your point?

I will never return to Notre-Dame, now that the secularist's have made it a temple to man's reason and not of God. This is a shame far beyond the "accidental" burning of this great cathedral.

I am a mason, I see the buttresses, as braces for a mistake in design, they were an after thought, normal people think it is some kind of beautiful design, a reaction to a design mistake are buttresses
