    I just received my lens yesterday and put it through it's paces today. I purposely shot wide open at f/1.2 and I was blown away. To echo what you said in your review, the subject to background separation is unbelievable. The lens was mounted on a fujifilm X-E3. I shot a portrait outdoors in the snow and used one strobe through an umbrella to bring up the shadows. The focus peaking was very responsive, accurate and nailed the eye on 98% of the shots. This is now going to be one of my go to lenses. I bought this lens based on your review and I can say I'm totally satisfied. I appreciate your honest and non biased reviews. Thank you!

    I tried this lens the other day and it’s great. For the little that it costs- worth every penny. I have most of the takumars and it renders better. One thing that Pentax lenses appear to best TTartisan in is probably color rendition/saturation.

    So I just bought it..tried it. Usually use vintage glass and yes the photos they take are great, lot of character. And now this lens..the colors are vibrant and it is already sharp at 1.4. I see some photos taken with this lens are soft but you need to nail the focus and if you do it is crisp. This lens is really great! And what a solid build. Heavy solid lens! And I just did a photowalk and the focuspeaking works so well! If you use focuspeaking combined with the focuszoom you nail the focus even at 1.2.

    Based on this review Ken, you have cost me £140. £90 for this 50mm f1.2 and £50 for the 35mm f1.4. I was so impressed by the 50mm on my X-T1 the 35mm followed soon after. I find them both wonderful and physically that 35mm is soooo small and sweet.

      Hi @NewarkSteve. I am on the fence of getting a 7A35/0.95 OR a TTA 50/1.2 in an attempt to see whether MF lenses suits me. After a year of use, do you see yourself still enjoying the TTA50/1.2 that you often take it with you? I'm contemplating between this and the 7Artisans 35/0.95 but I don't want either to eventually gather dust over time realizing that it's tedious and annoying to use (as a person used to AF lenses. Furthermore, quite a number had already sold their copies in the 2nd hand market probably because of the same reasons I mentioned regarding MF lenses). So, I just want to be sure coming from a person who owns the lens for some time and with the same body as mine (XT3). My current line up of XF lenses are: 16/1.4, 27/2.8ii, 35/2.0, 50/2.0. I found out that my 35/2.0 is my most used lens while the 50/2.0 the least.
      Your thoughts? Thanks in advance.

    • @NewarkSteve
      @NewarkSteve 2 года назад +1

      @@nathanielngosy The lens handles very nicely and it is priced very reasonably and gives good results. I'm not using it as much as I used to as I bought the TTArtisan 50mm f0.95. Faster, heavier, more expensive, and does not handle as nicely as the f1.2. But, I like it. Not that you asked, but you mentioned the 7Artisans 35mm f0.95. I have the Mitakon and really like it. However, I bought before the other fast 35mm lenses came out. Finally, you comment about the Fuji 35mm f2. I love the lens. as for your comment about the 50 being the least used. Two people at Fuji USA have told me that the 50 is the sharpest among the so-called Fujicrons. I hope I've answered your questions.

    • @nathanielngosy
      @nathanielngosy 2 года назад

      @@NewarkSteve Thanks for replying.
      • Yes, reviewers are saying that the TTA50/0.95 is quite underwhelming. In fact, so as the 7Artisans50/0.95 version wherein Theoria himself lambasted its poor performance. So, what you said about the 50/1.2 which handles better is true. Perhaps the only thing that hesitates me in buying the TTA50/1.2 could be the rendering of its bokeh stopped down to f/2.8 and beyond which exhibits a kind of octagonal shape. What I like about the 50/1.2 is its clicked aperture ring.
      • The 7Artisans 35/0.95 does render better bokehs than the 50/1.2. But its aperture ring is declicked and easily turns such that you won't realize that your shooting images with aperture values stopped down. So it's really a matter of choosing the more unique features of the 7Artisans 35mm with f/0.95 capability, better bokehs but with de-clicked aperture rings and 2X the cost OR the TTA50/1.2 which costs half, with good rendering of bokeh and a clicked aperture ring.
      • The reason why I mentioned the XF50/2.0 is that since its my least used, I'm quite worried that if I purchase the TTA50/1.2 hastily which I'll certainly use it with excitement initially and then later on just leaving it often in my dry box because it's too tedious to use and may just cause me to regret purchasing it in the first place (Same also with the 7Artisans 35/0.95).
      • So if ever I'll be purchasing an MF lense, I have to force myself to think of using it as much as I can regularly on certain occasions.

    Ken, thanks for the recommending this lens; it is an amazing value. I really like the subject to background separation you get from a 1.2 Aperture (the subject really pops out). I still find it hard to believe you could buy a brand new lens and get this kind quality for less than $100. I was wondering if you are going to review the TTartisan 35mm F1.4. I will wait on buying it until I hear your perspective on this lens. Thanks again!

    I love portrait but also I attend events (since corona not that much...lol) with people dancing and sometimes low light conditions. I also love details, flowers and a beautiful bokeh and....a nice background separate from the subject.
    What combo do you recommend?

    This seems like a direct competitor to the Kamlan 50mm f1.1 mk2, I'd love to hear your comparisons. I own the Kamlan and while I love it it's nearly double the weight of this lens and a real tank hanging off the end of your camera, I would easily swap it for reduced weight if the two lenses were comparable.

    • @throtol
      @throtol 2 года назад

      I too own the Kamlan 50mm f1.1 mk2 and TT Artisan 50mm 1.2. I prefer to use the Kamlan when choosing between them although the difference is not significant. I find that the bokeh is preferable from the Kanlan. However, like you stated it is a real tank hanging off my X-E3. When traveling I find that I do not like to have this excess baggage and will to with the TT Artisan.

    Was watching another review on the 7artisan 35/0.95 and there was a viewer in the comments that reached out to that channel for advice; given his budget was restricted to a fast 35 or 50mm under USD150. The reply was something around the lines of..."Sorry, do your own research as I haven't the time". I thought to myself...wow...this is the right show for this viewer...so I replied with a copy-paste of this video's link. I think the guy is using a second-hand Fuji, as well. Pretty sure the fella will find what he needs to know on this channel, between this video and many others (i.e. good vintage glass on a budget).

    Interesting, I'll look into it, IV been getting a few artisans lenses to play with, 35 1.2 the super cheap 25 1.8 ,the UFO biscuit , and the full frame focusable biscuit.
    APS C is not a setting I use.
    Waiting for an adapter before I try the biscuits, please don't spoil the disappointment.
    Today I've been making my *new* Helios 40 useable ,full of earwax , and a piece of 50 year old dandruff glued between the rear elements. Adjusting the adapter to get infinity, at which the lens can pinch your hand with its sharp stop down ring.
    (I've made a pot noodle hood, your recommendation!)

    Voigtlander 50mm f/1.2.. This is by far the most incredible lens the physics created in the history of mankind. I shot a film with a lens I borrowed once. I consider it a little better than the Jupiter 3 f/1.5 radioactive lens for Leica and Zorki. These two lenses are better quality or at least the same with any leica L39 I used. The best value for money of all LTM lenses is this Jupiter 3. The Jupiter 8 is a very nice lens if you keep it well shaded. But I could not tell the difference in quality of shots between Leica lenses and this Jupiter 3 lens. Voigtlander is indeed a little better in color reproduction but I think it is not more sharp. In B&W Jupiter 3 and Voigtlander are the same according to my humble opinion. I bought the J-3 for 50 euros 10 years ago. I never will have the money to spend to buy a Voigtlander so I hired one. When I bought the J-3, I sold the classic 50mm Leitz L39 because J-3 was better. Russian and East German lenses are unbeatable for their Value for Money and only people who never used them consider them crappy things.

    I completely agree with you about the lens. Exquisite black and white images! I really want to like Fuji. The images have a look and feel that is unique. I briefly owned a used XT-1 but had to send it back because of hot pixels. I now carry around an X-E1 and an X-M1 on walks hoping to take landscape or street photos. I love to shoot by the water and the problem I am having is that color images have lots of purple pixels in the highlights leaving me no option for a color edit. Do you have any advice about this? Does anyone know how to calculate the effective FOV for these Chinese APSC lenses if the mount is ordered for M4/3? Not sure what the basis would be if the spec as advertised is 50mm/f1.2. Is it a straight 2x crop factor conversion from full frame equivalent 50/1.2...or is this advertised spec already on an APSC basis. I suppose it is the former, yielding 100mm/f2.4 (FOV/DoF) on M4/3...but not sure.
    My understanding is that the lens is designed with an integrated focal reducer as the rear element. If so, would it be accurate to say the equivalent calculation would be something along the lines of: 50mm = (X) x (~0.68 to 0.72) where a native vintage equivalent would be a 71.4~73.5 mm lens coupled with the integrated FR to yield an effective 50mm full frame? Thereafter, one applies the crop factor for the relevant format, directly from the advertised spec. I read various seller material and it is not clear (to me) what they use as a basis.

    By the way, are there any filter like NDs that might help with fringing or that is impossible? I'm going to buy an ND64 for using the lens wide open on daylight and I'm wonder if it can do something for the purples and greens

    You have said in at least 5 other videos that 50mm lenses are the best lenses for all brands that it's the bragging point lens that is the best value and the very best quality. You don't lie you just talk so much about nothing that you talk in circles and contradict yourself constantly.

    Had it for a couple of weeks and REALLY wanted to like it if only for the clicked aperture. Its sharp enough wide open if you really nail focus and very sharp past f/2. The problem is it creates extremely ugly geared looking bokeh at anything past wide open if you have any kind of light, highlights, etc in the background. The very weird blade design I presume is at fault here. If you only shoot it wide open it's fine, but if you want to shoot at mid range aperture then it's useless.
