it's especially worrying when you have a much younger Celtics team in the same conference, all with finals experience, with their top 8 rotation under contract & ready to run it back!
AND a newly revived Knicks team, also all younger and tougher!
AND a very young, super-energy Pacers team that now knows they have to figure out their defensive identity.
And the Giannis/Lillard combo, a new Magic team, Spo at the Heat, etc., etc.. 2nd place in the EC is gonna be a dog fight, is this 3 gonna give the 76ers an edge?

They need to get a bigman who can cover for Embiid during large parts of the regular season. I almost expect Joel to get injured so the Sixers need someone you could put on a playoff team and he could compete at a high level. I would target Naz Reid but Minnesota won't let him go after his performances in the playoffs and you'd need to trade Tobias to get him.
Joel needs to forego all the regular season accolades and accept that he needs to be ready to play 20+ games in the playoffs.

realistically, the Celtics have become a big 6. even at 38, Al is in great shape with the no back-2-back game management, as his Finals performances proved.
but the distinction here is the Celtics are no longer a 2 All-star headed team plus back-ups. anyone in their starting 5 can go off on any given night, making them almost impossible to guard and prepare for. that was not true of any other team last season, and nothing appears to have changed so far in free agency. other teams are piecing together big 3s that "look good on paper," to face off against a battle tested, big 6, championship team.

Thats the thing, this CBA is putting emphasis on making rosters where the old CBA basically allowed 3 max players without penalties hit on teams.
This CBA is going to force the end of the so called "Big 3" idea, and try to create with the idea of more balance roster without spending 300 million for 1 player or 500+ million for 2

Harden doesn't shoot catch-and-shoot 3s (neither have literally any of the other 2nd or 3rd options that have been brought in except for Maxey). I'll give you one guess what kinds of great shot opportunities playing with an offensively gifted Center creates.
Of course it doesn't work when your 2nd and 3rd best players refuse to shoot the open shots that your best player creates for them. This is literally the first time in Embiid's career that won't be a problem.

The Clippers big 3 didn't fail because PG, Kawhi and Harden didn't fit. It only failed because Kawhi wasn't healthy and even when he did play during the Mavs series, he didn't look like he was even at 50%. They probably would have beaten the Mavs otherwise (took them to 6 games without Kawhi contributing productive minutes). Bigs 3s usually work when at least 2 of your 3 stars are good defensively and are not always injured.
