- I have never made one of these before but am delighted with my first efforts. There are no plans available for the jig as router tables may differ.

Is it just me or are Peter's videos getting even better?!?
He's definitely getting more adventurous these days.
It would be hard for Peter to get any better. For he is one of the greatest. He is a true genius.
Unfortunately for Peter but good for us, he probably has a little more time on his hands.
Peter, the jig itself is quite commonplace. However, the changeable inserts are pure genius. Why am I not surprised when you invented the Parf Guide System. Simple, effective and by far the best one that I have seen. Brilliant!

Nice! Might I suggest on your jig you could put a T track or slot to hold a sliding toggle clamp or two to hold the box material. The replaceable inserts are a terrific idea! Enjoy your videos and get a lot from them! Thanks!
Yes, I have thought of that but my backing piece is only 18 mm thick and the T track will need 15 mm. So, it is an excellent idea and people should use a thicker backing piece. Cheers. Peter

Nice job, Peter! I've seen plenty of box joint jigs, but the way you made this handle multiple bit sizes makes it the most clever approach I've seen. It looks like it would be easy to adapt to use on a table saw with a dado blade too.

Absolutely brilliant idea, really got me thinking, I have a Trend table with the Bosch 1600w fitted so I should be able to utilise the sled idea. One little suggestion, possibly if you used a spiral up-cut bit, it would reduce the breakout that you experienced? Just a thought 🤔

This is a very helpful video Peter. I have one of these festool CMS router tables and have been wondering how to make a box joint gjg for it. I have actually made a sled for the CMS table with a TS 55 track saw using the outer rails as guides for the sled. It worked quite nicely. I will definitely have a go at making this box joint jig. I've often thought that it should be possible to cut finger joints on a CNC machine, if only there were some way to mount the workpiece so it stuck up through the table.
Have just purchased your book from the Kindle store and will read it as soon as I've Finished Neil Gaiman's Stardust.

Hi Ejay, No plans I am afraid - my drawing software ran out of licence 10 days ago and I am having trouble reinstating it. The concept is so simple and so much needs to be adjusted to suit other router tables that it is better for people to start from scratch. Cheers. Peter
That’s a brilliant idea Peter!! - I’ve been looking at a well known USA made jig for my router table but yours is genius in its simplicity. The most challenging bit for me would me making the inserts accurately but I’m certainly going to have go at making one. (When it’s warmed up a bit, my workshop is freezing!! ) regards John
Hi John, The inserts do not need to have the rounded over section - they could be rectangular. They can be made free hand without a template as well. Cheers. Peter
@@NewBritWorkshop - Hi Peter, I’m just contemplating cutting a square recess in the main vertical support plate & make some snug inserts to fit. Fix the vertical support, then fit the backing plate, clamp an insert in, then drill through this and the insert with a M6 drill. Fit another blank insert and use the M6 holes in the support plate as a guide to drill though the blank insert, repeat as many as needed.
Then put a threaded insert into the backing plate. Countersink the M6 holes in each insert (front face) and use countersunk M6 bolts to fix the insert. It’s the Incra jig I was looking at, I think yours is better!!!! Regard John

Very nice to see a jig that can be made for the two Festool CMS tables, and even to an extent to the Precisio saws, the CS 50, CS 70 and TKS 80.
Is the width of the Precisio the same as the CMS (ie would my jig fit) ? Not that it would be used in the same way but I do have other ideas. Cheers. Peter
@@NewBritWorkshop Yes it is Peter, but only the CS 50, which shares he same dimensions as the GE tables that you have. The CS 70 is wider.
Though the CS 70 is as long as the MFT/3 is wide, thus the with of the MFT/3-CMS VL is the same as CS 70’s length.

Hi Peter, cut a shallow groove along the Domino with a hacksaw to prevent the "hydraulic lock".

If you use the medium or loose sitting on your domino there will be no hydraulic lock
Hi Peter, just watching this again as a refresher as I want to make some box joint boxes. You mention you'd probably make this out of high quality Baltic Birch ply if you were to make it again, unfortunately for many reasons as I'm sure you know Baltic Birch ply is virtually impossible to find, I wonder with your experience and knowledge if you know of any alternatives that could be used. I know you're a busy chap but if you have any ideas and the time could you please share any suggestions! Thanks in advance, best wishes to you. Thanks Tony.

Dear Peter. Thank you for a very interesting video. Can you tell me little more about how you cut the rails to fit the slots on either side of the table. Will these rails also work as a sliding table saw jig on the TKS 80?
Hi Basil, I cut some wood (oak in my case) 20 mm thick and (I think) about 30 mm wide. I then passed this through my router table in which I had a 45 degree chamfer cutter. This created the shape to fit into the channels on either side of the table. I then trimmed this for height so that it was flush with the top. I think the TKS has the same channels. Peter

Hi Jan, It is the Festool split hose designed for both the CMS-OF and CMS-TS. I am not sure but it may also be used on the Precisio. Peter

Peter, great jig as always. How much do you pay for Baltic Birch plywood? The last time I purchased a sheet of 8 x 4 x 3/4 it was £75 and that was several years ago. Best regards, Ron.
Hi Ron, I have not bought a full sheet for about 20 years. I sometimes buy a few square feet from a friend who also gives me offcuts when he is having a workshop tidy. I think I paid about £30 for a sheet of 3/4" in 1999 (ish). Cheers. Peter
I get mine from chilterntimber.co.uk 8x4 18mm thick is £66 plus vat but cheaper if you buy in bulk ...... good service and you can order in line and have it delivered

Peter, what has happened to your Axminster router table? It looked more stable than the wobbly CMS table.For this sort of joint I would use my WoodRat, but then I need something different for the bottom grooves, either a router table as you did, or a handheld router with a guide rail. I guess that if I was starting now, I would not buy the WoodRat, but make/buy a good router table. Maybe I will still do that. Regards Sierk
Hi Sierk, I had too little space and knew that when we moved house I would have a smaller workshop and so the lovely cast iron one had to go. I once looked at Woodrat but felt it too expensive for what it did. Cheers. Peter
No worries using the CMS table. Just build a cabinet under and fold the legs up and put the CMS on top. It will be more sturdy than almost any other “Meccano” style router table. The CMS table with legs folded are super rigid, and you can still grab it to go where you go.
Is a cabinet for the GE table in your future, Peter? 🙃

they are 20 mm across and my stock started at (I think from memory) 32 mm deep but you can easily check what is needed. Peter
