In this video I make a multifunction spline and box joint jig for the router table. I also demonstrate the jig in use making different types of spline joints and box joints.

I don't have a router table, but the day I do, this is going high on the project list. Love it.

Fantastic space saving jig. Exactly what I've been looking for. Thanks for sharing. On the priority list for next jig build.

Exactly. Originally I was going to build both a spline jig and box joint jig, then it occurred to me I could combine them both in one jig. Thanks and glad this was useful for you.

I have done much searching for a multi-purpose jig like this. I hope that you have detailed plans for a build. Excellent!

This Jig would be amazing for my set up. I make mainly frames and boxes with a router table and miter saw. Unfortunately I don't have a table saw, or the space for one, to make the necessary cuts to make this jig.

Awesome! Could you incorporate different rear center panels you could switch out for different router bits to reduce readout?

    • @kiwiworkshop
      @kiwiworkshop  Год назад

Great idea! It guess it would basically be a zero clearance insert for the jig. You would probably also want to make the height adjustable so you can match the height of the router bit. Probably more of a concern for a dovetail bit. If I run into issues with tearout, I will look into this. Thanks!

    I like it!
How do you manage measurements for the splining jig? Do you have to measure up every time you use the jig due to it being manually located on the T-Track?
I assume the initial pass on the box-joint jig allows you to align that perfectly each time?
Would a similar approach work on the splining jig where your first cut when you first fit the jig to the track could be a locating point?
You could then measure a zero reference from the center of that along the spline bed?

      Thanks!
For splines, I raise the router bit up, then adjust the jig sideways until the router bit is centered with the slot in the jig. At this point I will secure the clamps on the T-Track. For the spline position in the workpiece, you can place a spacer of the required width between the router bit and the spline clamp on one side, then secure it in place.
Similar for box joints, I will raise the router bit up and adjust the jig sideways on the T-Track until the router bit fits in the slot in the fence. I will then do a test joint in scrap wood and make micro adjustments in the box joint fence (wingnuts on the back of the fence) until the box joints are fitting OK.
It doesn't take much to get it all lined up correctly and once it's all locked in, you can make cuts fairly quickly.

Kia ora! Can i ask what router table you own? I am looking to buy one for my shop in nz.
By the way I stumbled upon your channel the other day and have watched nearly everything, quality content. Thankyou!

I built it myself. It's attached to my table saw which has the bonus of making the table saw fence dual purpose. I was going to make a video for it but noticed there are a few already on RUclips. If you search on RUclips for something like "combined table saw and router table" you will probably find something similar.
Great to read your comment about my channel and really appreciate you watching my videos - thanks!
