This is on my list of required shop jigs, I'm slowly making my way through the list.
Very clear and the grooving blade is the actual solution I was looking for after watching about twenty different videos.
I bought the same blade a month or so ago and made a similar jig. I’ve made a few jewellery boxes with it, it’s a great way to do them 🙂

Such a nice fit! So satisfying to see a perfect joint with no voids - well done!
I've used a jig of this type for years. I put the tab on my side of the fence so I can see what is going on. Also I clamp both sides of a corner and cut both at the same time - saves some time and makes a better fit. If you cut the sides short and add a small strip of contrasting wood on each end, you get this beautiful ladder effect on the corners! Have fun!

Great video Keith, I saw a Rob Cosman video where instead of wood glue he assembles the joint first and then applies a thin super glue. You don't have to worry about wood swelling or set up time, the super glue soaks right in.Because of the nature of the joint it's extremely strong. (No accelerant). I'v been using this method for a couple of months now and find it works really well. Love your videos, Keep up the good work.

If you had made the jig less wide you could have put a stop block on the sled to make it easier to micro-adjust the finger fit.

3:10 the height of the blade does matter. You should be only cutting to the depth of the fingers of the joint in order to prevent tear out or otherwise you will be using a backer board all the time.

The way you marked the triangles's tips to trim them down (:50-:55) reminds me of a remark made 30 years ago by a former student of James Krenov's. I made some marks similar to yours and told him to cut where I'd marked. He said, "Where? Here at the tarantula?"

You said that it doesn't matter how high the blade cut thru the fence at first but it really does matter. Later on when you lowered the blade to the thickness of your panels, that left a gap above your cut that caused chip out on the back side. If you had made the initial cut a little less or exactly the thickness of the final panels, then you would have a lot less chip out to clean up. Nice and easy to build jig otherwise.

I'm sure matthias wandell would have something to say about this lol.. I tried all the different jigs and I realised you actually need an accurate saw to start with. If it it works for your saw then great but mine not so

Nice video as always! A small tip: you can use the back edge of the saw table to glue the sledge square on the rails.
You can as long as your blade is set perfectly square to the table
(IMHO) Would be nice to see where you're going, when you start cutting, " this is the X piece", this the back piece etc?

That was a beautifully neat joint. I wish I had a full size table saw, I struggle on a hobbyist saw & box joints just about work but are a bit sloppy. Though I did CNC a good set (all 6 sides)
Hey how about a video showing a complete box, I got to the last side of the box and somehow made it backwards and it would not fit right. how do you keep track of the sides and order you are working on.

I'm not sure what's in Superglue "activator", but I just use a little spray bottle filled with tap water and it works perfectly for me

@@RagnBoneBrown You can also sprinkle baking soda on superglue to form an instant solid fill - useful on ill-fitting loose joints.

Do you think this blade could be used on a DeWalt 7485 table saw? The throat plate looks wide enough. Another thought - if being used with a sled could one not install the throat plate? Any help appreciated and thanks for your videos.

You can get the same blade and just buy a ring reducer to adapt it to the 25.4mm bore

I'm going to have a go at making this jig now I have a new table saw. However, I am confused by the figures on the blade. What is the difference between CMT 240.060.06 and CMT 240.020.06, apart from the price?
020 is 2mm kerf 060 is 6mm. It's shown on the blade

Would you recommend always using hardwood for the pin and runners or was that just what you had on hand? If yes, I'd love to understand why as I'm very new to woodworking. I bought my first table saw recently and would love to try something like this for practice but most of my scraps are plywood, pine or old firewood the previous occupants left in the back of the garden, so I've no idea what it is!
Hi Claire, hardwood is more hard-wearing, so should last longer, but honestly softwood like pine will be absolutely fine! Cheers, Keith
The cut you made here, 6:21 is not good. The one side of the box frame is higher than the other side. The cut is off.
And about that, how is your ”dustdrawer” for the mitresaw work? I remember your dramatic video when building...Planning to build if working ok. Thanks and keep them coming!

I blame this video for this being out of stock. There's a more expensive 180mm version but I don't think that'd be necessary since it's for finger joints in box making material...

I want to make this jig but at the moment I hardly have time for woodworking. How long did it take you to make it? (I'll need four times more time, I guess)
Can this also be done with a regular blade (kerf 3-4 mm) and no flat teeth? Lately I saw a YT video on making a perfect piece of wood which is exactly the width of the
kerf, without any measuring. Unfortunately, I can't find it back at the moment.
Cheers Hans. Only about 3 hours to make I think. You can do it with regular blade but if no flat teeth you'll have some tiny gaps. You could potentially get a blade re ground by sharpening company to make the teeth flat - another option! 👍
@@RagnBoneBrown Thanks for your reply and explanation. That last option is something to think about. The local shops where I buy hardware and utensils offer a sharpening service. But due to the lock-down they are closed. Hopefully they'll open soon because all the non-food shops are already closed since December 17th.
I 've just found back the video on making a shim with the exact width of your saw blade without any measuring.
