  • Singapore is one of the most expensive cities in the world. Today I asked people on Orchard Road how much they earn, what position / job they work in and if this is enough to pay their bills.
    I am a Swiss Expat living in Singapore and love to share everything I experience in this beautiful city-state🇸🇬

    Were those salaries before or after tax? Does Singapore provide free medical insurance?
    Correct me if I am wrong but the problem in Singapore is real estate. If that is somehow taken care of, you can manage with very little, eat well etc. Make a video about rent and mortgage payments. And utilities.

    • @lunazero433
      @lunazero433 6 месяцев назад +1

      It doesn't matter whether it's before or after tax because there it's pretty much the same thing anyway.
      After the tax reductions you'd pay less than 5% of your earnings for the year... which is usually less than your year end bonus. So yeah, you wouldn't even notice the amount you lose to taxes.
      As for free medical insurance, it does provide some for citizens. Most citizens get subsidies but may still have to pay a little.

      @@Ceryllove yes but no one in this video makes more than 120k/year so this means that everyone here pays 5% or less even if we assume they have 0 reductions.
      Foreigners don't pay 15%, they simply get fewer reductions but the tax rate is the same.

    • @zinoGn
      @zinoGn 3 месяца назад +2

      Singapore does not provide free medical insurance. However, we have Medishield which is compulsory for all Singaporean and PR, and is paid by our CPF. Our medical bills are also subsidized based on individual / family earning, which is called mean testing. Basically, if you earn more then u pay more. This health financing system allows Singapore to have enough resources to improve our healthcare system and avoid users from abusing the system (like the free universal healthcare system).

If your clearing 13k a month after all expenses are deducted ))) as I do ))) then and only then , are you a big earner !
      It's only what amount remains in your hand at the end of each month that matters .

    Young singaporeans have lots of disposable income because they live rent-free under their parent's roof until they get married. And 96% of households own their home. Much mollycoddling and spoonfeeding from the parents. And think about the number of singaporean households who employ domestic helpers. GenZ young singaporeans don't do any household chores and have bad spending and savings habits. Topics for you to think about so that you learn more about singaporeans more than skin deep.

Cpf is a indirect tax for the government to market it as a saving plan. But main objective for the goverment to take the money to roll more money. And return you the money on a digital form which you unable to use it. Example canada 2k per month you able to own a car and expenses on food.
