    Correction: At 7:00 and the next 1 min, the correct clip should be this: ruclips.net/video/Arw1RwKe_Vc/видео.html
    Audio was correct.
    FCPX has some funny thing happening with its compound clip function, which modified previous versions and led to the wrong clip. Sorry about that.
    Long Vid, please use chapter on the time bar. Rod Action and Power still confuses people, because our eyes are often partially "distracted", plus the graphs online are mostly unfaithful to the reality. I built a special rod holder and used video technology to visualize rod ACTION and POWER accurately for the first time on RUclips. Hopefully confusion no more! Together with "Relative Load", rod action and power play pivotal role in the four operations of fishing: Casting, Presenting, Hook-Setting and Fish Fighting.

      I have a question to put on the table:
      The action of a rod shouldnt be not only for the type of baits that we use but for the measurement of the feeling that we sense when we are fishing, in other words, the weight of the bait and his action should be transmited to our hand at full, in my opinion thats the correct form whith the things you just said.
      Im i correct or not ??
      Being so, there are some rods, from several brands, very expensive rods that this measurement is incorrect.
      My thougths, they only do that to sell more with lesser work and , without R&D to spend.

      The load a rod should be measured under is the load that makes the rod bend 1/3 it's total length when anchored parallel to the ground and 10% of its length. Then when that rod is deflected 1/3 it's length, that it is power, i.e. 500 grams. Then you measure the tip from the vertical (90degrees).
      These measurements give purely objective measurements. Its called the Common Cents System. I appreciate this videos attempt to clear up misconceptions but it is still inaccurate.

    Sense at last, said this for years, most people that fish for Bass in UK go for extra fast 9ft and most do not know why they get this length and action, if you check out the Bass guides a lot use 8, to 8.6 and use moderately fast which is far superior for setting hooks at long range and the shorter length gives you more control of the lure, great video.

    Back in the late 90’s I worked at a large tackle department. We were tough how to assess a rods action by pressing it against the floor to judge it’s strength. After playing with 1000’s of rods since all I need to do is press it to the floor and my muscle memory allows me to accurately rate the rod. The G Loomis rep that thought us plainly said the rating on the rod is a guideline but far from the way to know what a rod will do. This is the way to judge a rod at a store.

I sure have had rods that disappointed me on casting, they just didn’t load enough despite the power and action listed. Great work by you! Diawa made a cranking rod in the mid to late 90s that was unbelievable in the fact that it did not transfer the torque into your hands, fingers. Wrist, forearm and elbow. How was diawa able to do this? It was a tds or tdx line of rods 7 foot black with gold eyes.

    • @BassniperEng
      @BassniperEng  9 дней назад +2

      When rod does not bend responsively to the load, it makes the wrist fatigue quick because of lever effect; when rod bends under load (i.e. high drag deep cranking), the more it bends, the shorter the distance from load to fulcrum becomes, thus the less effort required to balance the torque. Also when it bends, the tip follows whatever the lure does, while the blank absorbs the energy of the drag (i.e. water drag of the bait and line) and converts it into potential energy and stores it inside the blank. These are the reasons why high deep crank baits are better fished on glass rods can alleviate fatigue.

      @brians.4488 9 дней назад +1

      @BassniperEng diawa had a 7 foot cranking rod that was in a different league when it came to how much torque didn't transfer into the handle!! It is very difficult to find cranking rods with this property. When i first picked up one of those rods I told the girl in our bass club that her crankbait was screwed up or it's foul hooked but when it got back to the boat that crankbait comes straight up out of deep water I was speechless so I handed it to my team partner and he was tripping on it as well. We went out and bought that rod the same week. I wish I could find out the exact model number so I could find out more about its construction. It was a 7 foot black blank with gold eyes it was either tdx or tds line from the mid 90s. If u have access to any old catalogs from back then u could find it !!

    Thank you so much for that wonderful explanation. That was really helpful and understanding how fishing rods actually work. It may be too difficult, but I would love to see how the action changes based on the force that applied to the handle in your example you had a fixed handle Obviously, when a fisherman is fishing he’s gonna apply torque and leverage to the handle, which I would assume affects the bending of the rod

    • @BassniperEng
      @BassniperEng  10 дней назад

      The fisherman part is more about the angle. It does have some effect on where the rod bends most, or I should say, whether it is more obvious to see where it bends most (i.e. if you point the rod really up under load, you can more clearly see where it bends most then if you have it horizontally held).

      too bad many manufacturers fail to categorize their own rods properly by both action and power, e.g. listing some rods as moderate or mod-fast whereas in reality they are extra fast, or listing them as e.g. 1 oz power whereas they are easily 2 oz or more.
      it makes it very difficuclt to choose online (especially when you're searching for a replacement for a broken rod that's no longer manufactured so you want a close match) and makes your efforts on narrowing down the list of suitable rods before going to a store next to useless.

    Man love the “action” comparisons but you can’t really judge different manufacturers power and action ratings against each other?? There different blank materials as well as different overall components. It’s not apples to apples so to speak. The Megabass TS Destroyer is an extreme heavy duty double wrapped guide SLX graphite wrapped blank built for large heavy swimbaits. It may have a similar “bend” to the G Loomis but I promise you, if you put that G Loomis under the same weight constraints as that TS Destroyer it will explode! The weight recommendations are just that recommendations but I would be careful as to how you use certain rods out over there weight recommendations.

    • @BassniperEng
      @BassniperEng  9 дней назад

      Actions can be compared among any rods or brands because again it's just where the rod bends most, the footage will be uploaded hopefully next week. The reason why all rods feels different is because action and power can not decouple and they always affect how the rod fishes and feels together. Like I said in the video, the variable parts are: angle when testing, input load when testing etc that's what makes most of the brand to brand difference. And a lot of times where the rod "starts to bend" makes a huge difference in the rod's tip movement aka "appearing stiffness", leading to the brand to brand difference we typically feel. When we fish what we feel was mostly the amount of tip movement, that's why a low power extra fast can fish supple under high loading, but a high power slower action rod can fish stiff under low loading.

  • @jae-gw6tl
    @jae-gw6tl 9 дней назад

    A heavy rating on a crankbait rod isn't the same as a heavy rating on a jig/worm rod. Also one companies "extra fast" isn't the same as the next companies. Different materials are used to build the rods. For example a st. croix extra fast will never match a loomis extra fast because croix uses softer materials.

    • @BassniperEng
      @BassniperEng  9 дней назад

      Blank material is #1. Actions can be compared across companies although they might use different holding angles and different load when defining their ex fast , fast etc, leading to small difference. What we describe as "brand to brand" difference is more about the power rating, what we were comparing is the appearing stiffness of a rod, aka tip movement, which is impacted largely by where the rod "starts to bend" -- 1 degree bending right above the handle will cause more tip movement than 1 degree bending 1 feet from the handle. So rod length and guide location and number also has some impact. The thick diameter blank bending is what makes a lot of the different feeling of rods' "stiffness"-- 2 fast action MH rods, the one has a blank that starts to bend closer to the handle (aka bends deeper) will feel softer or supple than the other which does not bend as deep.

    • @jae-gw6tl
      @jae-gw6tl 9 дней назад

      @@BassniperEng I'm simply saying comparing a heavy crankbait rods action to a heavy jig and worm rods action is pointless ..or a heavy swimbait rods action. "Stiffness" or whatever else. Especially a glass rod. Makes no sense. Don't mean to offend. Just didn't understand it.

    The whole system as Medium, Medium Heavy, Fast, Moderate fast.....is so subjective and inaccurate. The appropriate way to measure is CCS. When defining rod action, the rod should be parallel to the ground, not at a 30 or 45 degree angle.

    • @BassniperEng
      @BassniperEng  7 дней назад

      CCS is indeed a very good system for comparing rods across board, unfortunately no major rod manufacture picked that up some 25 yrs after it came out, still the same old. IMO the ERN/AA's practicality for anglers are perhaps not as much as for the rod manufacturers. It's easier to relate to the current defining system than numbers. Rods are not analytical balances so perhaps that high resolution in the ERN/AA system is not felt or needed. As far as angle goes, horizontal position was chosen in the CCS because it is the easiest to measure the tip's deviation from the 0 load axis and to set the horizontal reference of the AA dial. 30, 45 or 60 are equally OK as long as the entire system is measured using one angle reproducibly. Megabass use both 30 and 45 degrees, Shimano uses 60 a lot.
