    hi, another great video - when VVT is on, solenoids not disabled, the cranking waveform is OK, not sure about the intake bump though, if you disabled VVT, you get the usual cranking in-cylinder waveform

    Another great video! Finally I saw the exhaust compression hump all the way up in a waveform! I always picture it in my mind because never goes up. This was awesome! Did you open the phaser just for curiosity? As Joel I thought it was a not fully charged battery when cranking but later we saw why it did that! Thank you brother!

    • @DTEAuto
      @DTEAuto  3 года назад +2

      Thanks Keka, yes I did open up the phaser, there is a return spring inside that had popped off its locating position and so it was stuck not in the correct installation position, causing the cam to be in the wrong timed phase.

  • @MiguelMartinez-np8uo

    Great video as always , the only thing I would have done differently is to change all the phasers since one of them went bad the others may go bad as well including the chain .

    I admire your diagnostic. I wish I have the tool and understanding to do the same.
    The chain guides on N63 is notoriously bad. They turn brown in color become brittle. Your guides are very brown and will not last long. However it is still the best decision if u see the root cause (VANOS sprocket) as changing timing guides is not easy (engine out). You should also have remove the oil pan (surprisingly easy for N63) to see if any chunks of debris from chain guides or anywhere.

    • @DTEAuto
      @DTEAuto  10 месяцев назад

      Yes all good points for sure, but on this one the customer just wanted to get it running to make sure engine and rest of the car was ok

  • @JoelAutomotiveInaction
    @JoelAutomotiveInaction 3 года назад +2

    Thanks again good diagnóstic, I wa wondering when you did the cranking compresión that sounds was un even ,like weak battery but looks to me on the red trace incilinder you have double compresión stroke, and that is the reason why the engine cranks slow having 2 cylinder at the same time compresión , I would have love to see in good running conditions incilinder wave form, also relative compresión at the very beginning would have been awesome to see 3 humps or 4 humps of compresión.

    • @DTEAuto
      @DTEAuto  3 года назад +1

      Hey Joel, yes that cranking sound was not normal because the engine was fighting itself to compress cylinders that normally shouldn't be compressing at certain times. I unfortunately did not save the relative compression waveform I performed, I tried to look for it when I put the video together but nowhere to be found. But I will say on another car that had the same problem (08 mini cooper out of time and had a second compression looking hump) I performed relative compression and that second hump never did show up on the waveform and the cranking didn't sound abnormal. So sometimes the relative compression test will show you the second looking compression and other times it won't. So it's best to go in cylinder to verify. Thanks for watching

    yep this is the n63 for you ive rebuilt 2 complete top ends on e70s and basically the valve stem seals where out to lunch
    and the first e70 the plastic on the cam adjusters on 3 had completley gone. basically you have just through money at them and get everything you neeed. there oil interval schedules that bmw state are ridiculous.

    when there was the synchronization problem tell me if the accelerator pedal worked? it was possible to accelerate the car from a standstill by pressing the accelerator ??? because I just redid my n63 engine and it's the same by replacing the timing chain. when starting it, the idle is unstable, it is impossible to accelerate the vehicle to get up in the turns. like an impression that the butterflies are not controlled by the accelerator pedal. I have already checked everything. I just need the timing adjustment to be checked.

    Watched your video - If I may ask a question - what's the benefit (other than seeing the sharp valve closing - which incidentally wasnt sharp on the first waveform) to using a fancy transducer? cant one measure compression in the bank and if all cylinders are about equal compression loss but still some present assumes no interference occurred?

      Codes are 108D01, 11B702, 120908, 12BA02, 130F21, 140601, 140602 that's from a bmw specialist, at bmw passport says vavle cover but it's not that I'm sure. Took to another place they said vanoes solenoids that didn't work took to another place they say since it several misfires change spark plugs and coils and injectors, I got everything replace other then fuel injector, didn't get that done because on 650ix have a extended warranty for fuel injectors and O2 sensor and camshaft for that car, it's currently in silver spring at bmw. They said my ivm module was no good so they replaced that and now they say they getting timing fault code, $545 for that and the part for the ivm module is only 145. Ok so I didn't pay yet cause they told me that should of fixed it like the other place with vanoes solenoids charged me $1305 for that and it didn't fix it. I already spent almost 3600 dollar on this car. Bmw said now they getting no codes other then timing fault.

    Hey brother I have 2010 BMW 750Li, just got the 4 Vanos Solenoids changed. Car runs much better all codes gone except one...
    131001 Crankshaft - inlet camshaft 2, reference: angle difference outside limit value
    Is that something to do with Camshaft timing? If so, how much in labor would it cost to time the engine...like you did

    • @DTEAuto
      @DTEAuto  3 года назад

      Yes, as far as that code description goes, it is related to timing issue not being aligned at some point , whether its due to chain issue or cam phaser not phasing properly. Unfortunately it is a very time consuming job if were needing to do any type of timing work and it gets very expensive quickly,

      @@ralphdesilva3438 Not yet, deciding which route I want to go. Either new engine, or fix the timing. The engines for these cars are pretty cheap, at $3k
      You can buy one & get it installed for around $5k total.
      It's most likely the Camshaft Exhaust gear/adjuster on the drivers side though. If I can get the labor for a reasonable price, I'm going replace it with a new gear
