This video was filmed and published before the M1 iPad Pro was announced. I have not tested this hub on the new iPad. Due to the change from USB C to Thunderboldt, there may be compatibility issues.
The issue is that…it doesn’t fit. The new increased thickness of the 2021 iPad Pro 12.9” prohibits the hub from making a solid connection. It’s a shame because it was a great hub. I am using the VAVA hub now. It has everything I need, including gigabit Ethernet, but for headphones you’ll have to use a USB-C port or AirPods from the iPad…
I bought the iPad Air4 and I love it but goddamit, why the hell doesnt it have a headphone jack!? No one does serious editing work with wireless headphones!
It looks great, but perfect would be having a second USB-C/Thunderbolt port for data. It also appears to mount flush with the case all the way to the back of the iPad meaning no third-party iPad cases. Anker could have raised the back edge so that a variety of third-party iPad cases would not get in the way. .... Swing and a miss.
I just bought this. It arrived yesterday. It's trash. If you micro-bump this, it DC's. It falls out by itself. Unless you lay this thing on a flat desk, forget it. It doesn't read my Sony Tough cards. I own tons of Anker gear and THIS SUCKS. Mine isn't even passing through power most of the time. SUCK product.
I use Hyperdrive. Essentially does the same. However the USB-C port can be used for charging AND data transfer. (HyperDrive iPad Pro USB C Hub adapter 6-in-1 Dongle). It’s about $70.
Just one lidle problem…..and the ones that use a protection case for our iPads? This usb c is to compensate for this extra thickness of the usb c connector

I am curious to find out which cases work best with the Anker HUB. Are there cord extensions that would help remedy problems with thicker military grade cases?
I don't think you can use this with many cases. I use it with the smart keyboard folio but if there is any sort of piece that comes on the side of the ipad, this won't connect.
Didn't know that Anker had cloned the Hyperdrive! It is a pretty cool device and works pretty well. You don't mention, and may not have noticed yourself, that the SD card support is limited to UHS-I. UHS-II is not supported so you still a dongle if you use them (or transfer wirelessly).

Apple needs a way to copy downloads from iPad to a flash drive. I use my iPad for everything except downloading embroidery patterns to a flash drive. I really get frustrated with regular laptops .
Great vid. I just returned a Hyperdrive hub similar to the Anker on your vid. Does your Anker hub connect ok with the Apple Magic keyboard please? The Hyperdrive hub would separate the back of my magic keyboard and disconnect power and connection to it, main reason why i returned it.

@@imaaronross All because Apple never open sources proprietary connections. They shared it with Logitech and combo touch and cases from logi are also $200 kindish. So a cheap magnetic cover or bumper is all that is left. ESR / spigen comes to rescue.
It is still holding up for me. I use it every day and don't have any issues. I know some people have been having compatibility issues with the 2021/M1 version but I'm all good with my 2018 version.
I know this video is about 7 months old, however, I have searched and watched many videos. So I have an iPad Pro 2018, and iPad Pro 2020. And the issue I’m facing is that I cannot get my Western Digital external hard drive to connect to my iPad. I mean, I cannot access my files.
Also, a few tech videos are saying that dongles or hubs are no longer required as long as the external hard drives are compatible. But what if my external hard drive is not compatible? Techs are always updating, and so do softwares. Soon we can’t access any file without buying all sorts of extra gadget just to review our photos and videos. (Rant over, still need help.)
One thing to check is how the hard drive is formatted. Do you have a mac or windows pc? If it works on a mac, it should work on the ipad. However, if it works on a windows pc, there is really only one format type that works for both windows and iPadOS. Beware that reformatting the hard drive will erase everything so make sure you have it all backed up.

I tested it out afterwards and still it doesn’t recognize the hard drive. It won’t even power on. So I’m wondering if I still need some sort of power source hub or adapter. Also, could it be that the new updates make it so that these devices become so incompatible that we’re being forced to subscribe to the clouds for storage.

OMG..... do I NOT have an ANKER myself....in my MacBook Pro, 4 usb-c ports are not enough, and that is where the ANKER comes to the rescue! Mine attaches via USB-C 6 inch, then gets me 2 usb's 1 C-Port, a micro SD and SD as well as a RJ45....the only thing missing would be the headphone plug....but got a Dongle for that too, but that is where bluetooth helps, sometimes. However the headphones I use have a special circuit that GIVES a killer punch to the music when using a cable!! I did look at the one you love... mine's kinda more flexible!

Works with all USB-C iPad models running iPadOS 14 or later. Not compatible with iPads that have a Lightning port.

No, this needs to be right up against the iPad. The case will be the way for it to connect correctly.

It is still holding up for me. I use it every day and don't have any issues. I know some people have been having compatibility issues with the 2021/M1 version but I'm all good with my 2018 version.
