    I took my 2007 Camry to an auto-mechanic to replace spark plugs. Because of the difficulties of doing this, he offered $550 to do this job. I thought about it at first but decided to search RUclips on how-to's. Then I landed on your video and gave it a try following your every step. It took me 7 hours between yesterday and today to finish this job. I've never worked on a car other than a simple oil change but what a great learning experience! Thank you!!

      I am in the same situation but now so called diagnosis fee 150 + 500 labor and parts will cost over 600. Did any new codes come on I am really worried about damaging the wiring harness. Mine is a Avalon 2007. I will also be a first timer.

    Removed the cowl, didn't have to remove the battery, airbox, throttle body and intake. I removed the cowl only and had plenty of room to work. Thanks for the video. Took me about an hour total. Front 3 took about 6 minutes......

    Thanks again for posting, really helped! Same procedure goes for replacing the coils! Hardest part to this job was the back left and right bracket bolts! Job was easier then expected otherwise like another poster mentioned. I had a bad coil in the back and decided while I had it all apart to replace all 3 along with the plugs. The difference between the OEM coils and aftermarket is some of them are wound with aluminum, NOT copper like you want to use, aluminum ones won't last. Be sure to use the correct Denso plugs, stick with OEM if you can! You can probably get away with NOT changing the gaskets in a pinch, but shouldn't. Don't forget to clean the throttle body with throttle body cleaner, I guess your NOT supposed to use carb or brake cleaner. There is some film on it that is NOT supposed to be removed by the harsher cleaners. Good time too to change the air filter or blow gun it off. Another poster below mentioned this again...."The hardest part is getting 2 bolts out of the back of the motor - bracket bolts. On passenger side - 14mm - on drivers side - 12mm". Hummmm, maybe this is why I had an extra hard time getting the 14mm on the passenger side while using a 12mm socket...WTF, lol. like Toyota needed to do this! last thoughts, there are 2 bolts on the passenger side rear bracket and removing either one will work. The one facing the back MIGHT be easier ( I believe this is the 14mm one, upper) then the one near the bottom of the bracket ( pretty sure the 12mm bolt ). If your looking at the the bracket from the side, picture clock hands at 12 and 7 o'clock. You can't see, only feel. good luck, hope this extra info helps!

    Thanks. It's always best to have you're VIN number ready and call a Toyota dealer for part numbers as they may vary even though the motor is the same. Sometimes Toyota updates a part and the new part will have a new number.

    Great video! This helped me immensely on my spark plug replacement on Saturday,
    Hints for the one who are new to doing this are first time is to label all of hoses & connections to which hose & cable you have to connect back afterwards. I wish I had an air ratchet so it will make it faster. My first time doing this took about 4 hours (plus breaks) to do. Use the universal joint socket to remove the right intake bracket which helps alot in cramped space there.

    Great video. You made it look so easy I gave it a try. I needed to replace ignition coil 3 and 6 and spark plugs. I saved a hell of a lot of money. It took me about 3 hours, including running back and forth to get more parts like a new air filter and the damn hex socket to take out the four screws. Thank you.

    Great condensed video. It saves a ton of time to see this and realize that the job can be done without touching the windshield wiper cowel since the two intake manifold hold down bolts are (barely) accessible. My only other piece of advice is to be careful around the camshaft position sensor electrical connector on the A bank (back bank) of plugs. The wiring is pretty sensitive and can easily come loose from the connector because it's only stranded copper into quick connect style. It's easy enough to fix though if you notice.

    Thanks for the video. Just bought an 07 with 113k on it and no sign of the coil packs having been removed, so I am getting ready to do the plugs. Having been a NIASE master tech since 38 years ago I was sure I could handle it, however after 15 years since working on cars for a living it sure was nice to see all the shortcuts. Much appreciation for the information and much respect for the end bolts first off and last on when you did the manifold upper...so many butchers so few techs LOL

    and the parts store said yes. After comparing the 67,000 mile plugs to the new ones, I couldn't tell much of a difference, so I put in the old ones, and they worked great. I guess these denso iridiums are really "long life" plugs. When they say 120,000 miles, they really mean it. One more thing, I ordered the updated coils part number 90919-A2007, but I got p/n 90919-A2004 instead. I was told they're the same as the A2007. I installed them and no problems so far. Any questions, let me know.

    Really valuable video. I appreciate it. I had to slow it down to .25 speed to try and catch everything but you did a great job removing it with the cowl, wiper motor and everything in place. I see you used a small probably 1/4" ratchet with 12mm socket for the rear left side intake manifold bracket removal. Then you used an articulating larger ratchet for the right side rear intake bracket also 12mm. I'm getting ready to remove the manifold now so....

  • @ab-gy7ie

    Very helpful video, although I could not get the left back bracket bolt without taking off wiper assembly. I could put wrench on the bolt but there is not enough room to kick it loose. The steel bolt was tight in the aluminum after 10 years. Mine is 2008 Camry. I wasted about an hour trying to get these bolts off then gave up and took off wiper assembly and tray where it sits. After that it was easy.
    I would also advice not to disconnect coils whenever possible as tabs break off easy after some years. I was aware of the problem and was very careful but still all 3 in the front broke off. You can use zip ties to secure the connectors without tabs or you can glue tabs back with J-B Weld 8265S epoxy. I have tested it and it holds up to the heat. Do not use 5 minute epoxy as it will soften from heat and will come off.
    I did this job for the first time and it took me 8 hours including lunch break and cleanup. I was labeling every bolt set to make sure that I do not mess anything up.
    Also while you have throttle body off, you should clean it with throttle body cleaner or use fuel injector cleaner if you have one handy. It works well.

    Watching this again to prepare for another plug change.. I’m really thankful for you making this video since you are an actual Toyota tech and it gave me the confidence to do it the first time. The only thing that bothered me a little is when you drop the spark plugs down the hole. They sell these red suction things that hold the plug and you can gently place it inside and even start it on the threads.

    • @Dailydriven79
      @Dailydriven79  4 года назад

      Thanks. What I actually do is set the plug down in the hole, hold the end with a finger and slide them down a bit before I let them fall in. I wouldn't want to accidentally "adjust" the gap.

    Not sure if the same rule applies to LHD vehicles.

    Thank you for sharing, I will be changing my spark plugs on my 2009 Toyota Venza V6 AWD in about a couple of weeks. The 2GR-FE engine is a workhorse power plant used in many Toyota and Lexus vehicles. It's great and reliable but sleeper engine, does not make a lot of splash in enthusiast conversations.

    • @norakat
      @norakat 4 года назад

      Might be a workhorse but does not feel like it has much torque in my 2016 Lexus ES 350

    • @alphaomega7891
      @alphaomega7891 3 года назад

      @@norakat If you're not feeling it's got good torque, I'd check the plugs, ignition coils, etc. Tested at around 0-60 in 7 seconds, it's rated around to 260-270 horsepower and torque rating is 236 ft-lb at 2,000 RPM.
      Then again, maybe you're used to a lot more power than I am.

      +Frank Biz lol..no. you can still do it in 2. if you're familiar at all of tools and vehicles, you'll be fine. my Dad is 71, been a mechanic all his life, but has terrible arthritis and neuropathy from agent orange in Vietnam. so he moves slowly. I did the front 3 and took my intake apart. I cleaned the throttle body and air filter while he dismantled the passenger side. I took all but 2 plugs out and he did the rest. we stopped because he had to go back home 1to get his tools. he forgot them. honeslty, the whole job, and i mean everything, working was only 1 and 15 minutes.
      you got it man. I put champion copper plugs in. they'll last a long time. my mother-in-law has a 2007 4Runner and has the original plugs in it at 183k. someone told me that those are recommended to be changed out around 30k. the price is $2 each vs about $9-20 each. change the OE every 50k-100k and it gets very expensive.

    The Toyota Dealership in my area (North Texas) wants $368 to do this spark plug change. I have almost 125,000 miles on my 2009 Camry XLE. The car runs like new and I have taken care of the vehicle. I was planning to do this myself but I am getting older and reaching some areas actually hurt. It might be well worth paying the money to get this completed. I know the mechanics at the dealership and they brag on the Toyota engine's long life. I have a 1965 Chevy 327 engine I am rebuilding and I'll stick with that project. It is easy and simple.

    I just completed mine on my Toyota Venza. You've probably mixed some torque units lb--ft and in-ft (ACIS / throttle body / intake manifold). You said 48 in ft lbs which was confusing and that's a lot of torque for 10mm screws. It's weird that Toyota would mix screw sets 10mm, 12mm but then used allen 5mm on intake manifold bolts - weird.
    Had a little problem here and there but all good, thank you for the video. It's not a difficult job, the challenge is the tight space and hardly any room to work behind the intake manifold. I was doing the bracket screws mainly by feel.

    Thanks for taking the time. Dealer techs like the one who made this video can knock out a 2GR-FE spark plug change in no time. DIYERS may find it helpful to also remove windshield wiper arms, then ventilated cowling(plastic), followed by another piece of cowling below(metal). This allows much better access to the rear spark plugs on any 2GR-FE engine.

    After doing this, I have a few pointers to share. fchanMSI said to label all hoses and connections, so you remember where all the hoses and cables go. That is great advice. I used to do that, but now that phones have digital cameras built in, I decided to take a picture before taking apart assemblies, and it worked out great for me. I could see where all hoses & cables went. On toyota nation the gent says to remove the wiper assy, but it is not necessary.

      Denso Iridium plugs are about $60 bucks. Non gapping. To remove front 3 takes 30-40 minutes. Firewall side takes about 2 hours. That would be almost $250/hr labor. Go ahead and pay that if you wish.

    So, the biggest thing missing is any discussion or mention about the camshaft position sensor plug. It is near the coil for cylinder 4 and 6. Unfortunately, I didn't see it and ripped the wires out of the plug. Waiting for a new part from the dealer to repair that. Beware that the plug is there. Treat the wires with care.

Serious question cus I do it every 5 but the Toyota dealership puts synthetic in mine. Thanks for the tips and advice

    Heads up for right hand drive models, you can not get to the rear left bracket in the 50 sec mark due to the brake master being there.
    best way to do this is just take the wiper motor and splash frame out heaps easier, then there is no need to take apart the intake.

    My camry has 67,000 miles, and the only reason I did this is because 2 coils were failing. Specifically the coils in #2 and #4 cylinders. Even though only 2 coils were failing, I bought 3 to replace all 3 coils in the rear bank. It wouldn't make much sense to go through all this work, replace only those 2 coils, and then a month later have to replace the 3rd coil. I bought new spark plug just in case, but before I bought them, I asked the parts store if I could return them if I didn't use them,

    Hey, great video. Please advise, I have 2007 Lexus ES 350 that was driven in flood waters. As I recall we could not get the car to engage the starter. I need to verify that it’s not hydrolocked. Looks like I need a set of plugs and gaskets. Break it down, remove all plugs. Replace battery and possibly key fob. Then try to spin the motor with the plugs out to see if any water is expelled. Am I missing anything? Any and all tips are valued-thanks!

    I have a question oil level. When I bring my car to Toyota service I noticed that oil level they fill to higher than the between two dots on the oil dipstick (over 1/2" higher) and is that normal? But when I do an oil change & I fill it to a little over 6 US quarts & then it is between the two dots on the oil dip stick. Which one is correct, oil dip stick or fill to 6.5 US quarts?

    Looks like you work at a toyota dealership. been a tech for 35 years and today i did my plugs and water pump on my 2011 camry with 2gr fe v6. i Saw on the rear head intake side there was some dry coolant that had leaked from head gasket. Not the first time i see this but i baby my car take very good care of it since day one when i bought it.. Whats the problem with these head gaskets and is there a hidden warranty? other than that car runs great . it has about 40 000 miles on its a 2011 . since day one ive added may 1 litre maybe 2 in the overflow

    Hey DailyDriven79. Great vid btw. I have a 2010 xle v6 with about 83k on the odo. I know the stock iridium plugs are long life, but i was thinking about changing the plugs soon anyways. Is there anything else that you suggest doing while working in that area? Ive heard about some issues with the coils, does that issue include the 2010 models or was it updated or changed by then. also the brake booster hose on my intake is broken off and basically just sitting on top of the hole that it goes to lol. what sort of things i.e. running like crap will not having this secured properly cause and why? any info helps THANKS!!
