Raining Rabbits - Pest Control & ATV Hunting - Thermal Shooting with a 308 Win
HTML-код
- Опубликовано: 1 янв 2021
- This ATV hunting trip was off to a rough start with all the recent rain. The planned hunting property was cancelled mid route and I diverted to another (Fortunately). Unfortunately for all the rabbits I had packed gear for a pig and goat hunt. So the little pests copped it with the 308 Win running 130gr Speer Hollow Points. Massively over-gunned but at least it's ethical, If messy........

Top job there mate. Just wondering why you dont like using the 130's on bigger game? I started using those 130's because i wasn't getting expansion on 150 SP's . Cheers
@@stevenlee798 I found them just way too soft for anything but smaller game. The 308 is more my pig gun on the ATV. A large amount of shots are rear raking angles as they run away. I found very poor performance on anything but small pigs in that situation with these speer 130's. 150's and 165's punch much further in or right through resulting in an instant kill. I'd shot a few fallow deer with them originally too. I'm used to bang flop on those, especially with the 308. Shoulder and lung shots were still quick humane kills with the 130's. But I had a few that should have dropped instantly which didn't.
That's great they work well for you. Was more personal choice that I moved to a heavier projectile from the 308Win.
@@EDGEoftheOUTBACK i agree they are probably a bit to expansive and need to drive a bit deeper but i the 150s over penetrate and i dont like seeing rounds exit animals and potentially hitting none target animals/ objects. Something in between is gonna be worrh gold i reckon 👍
The best was the rabbit that was mounted atop another and when you vaporized him she appears outta nowhere and it seemed like he had a ghost.🤣🤣 Of course, the encore with .308 mouse and exploding hare was an epic ending. After watching this vid and .22 mice disco party, my cheeks are sore from grinning some much. My wife and son thought I was going bonkers as I was giggling like a schoolgirl from the bedroom. I can’t wait to see what’s next? Creative carnage traps for feral cats? Or Thermal hogs getting brained with .308? Just curious, we have an ammo shortage in the 🇺🇸 USA. we can’t find bullets to purchase unless they are in some obscure caliber. .22 or .308 we must wait weeks on a rain check list for an unknown quantity and price. What’s it Like in Australia 🇦🇺 currently?
Anmo is fine here now. But I'd say in 6 months we will have issues too. Our stuff is the same source. It just takes longer to get here. So we will have a lag.
I have wondered what a 308 would do to a mouse. I wonder no more.
I allways wondered what a .50 cal do to a rat or mouse 😁😁😁
I have got bloke-tears pouring out of my ears. Started laughing at the exploding bunnies and then snorted beer out of my nose at the Mouse-be-gone.
Hahahah!!!
Skinned, dressed, and tenderized instantly.
...and puréed, ready to make sausage or something. 😂

I was trying to figure out what to say about shooting rabbits with a 308. I was preparing to type a rather lengthy post when I saw your five words and realized, yup, that says it all, and with great comedic accuracy I might add.
Well if you’re not gonna eat them… Blow them up!
Like hunting bambi whit a cannon
The very important point to note here, this isn’t hunting for fun or killing sake, this is the most important act of pest control. While it may seem contrary to some, this guy is actually an environmentalist doing what governments be doing to restore Australian wild life that has been nearly destroyed by stupid British hundreds of years ago.
Thanks Phil, many don't understand that aspect but I'm glad you do 👍
308 on a rabbit is like throwing a hand grenade into a goldfish bowl 😂
Your comment is gold!
...and to think, I've been using a .177 on mice all these years when I could have been using a .308! :D
We all can be better people 😜
You also could use a .50bmg with hollow point ! Or even a 20mm ! Or a 37mm explosive incendiary tracer round ! Dream big !
@@alexandrebourdinot5344 155mm howitzer. Go big or go home.

I'm not convinced those bullets are expanding properly. 😂😂
no but the rabbits are
😂
Lol
True but then there's not allot of rabbit to expand in!! I liked that video way too much!
@@vaughanellis7866 nothing wrong with that mate. Wait till you see the next one. It's on Patreon now, public in a few days.
The brilliant thing about the 308 is that there is zero pain.
So true, very humane lol
As a shooter and hand loader of .308 many years now I literally enjoyed this video WAY too much. And yes, I've long wondered what a 130 grain HP would do to a mouse.......LOL"D at that!
That's the ticket. Glad you enjoyed it mate.
That was pretty epic!
My dogs got super excited to hear the varmint calls on the tv 😂 entertainment for all.
Only the second video of yours I’ve watched, I thought blowing up mice mice with the .22 was awesome this just gets better and better! 😂
Thanks for getting on the train wreck mate 😂
There's no question about whether you hit your target or not. It's like pyrotechnics with meat.
That poop-stump even had a footrest.
That's not a dunny... That's a THRONE!!
😂
308 will might work for rabbit hunting if aimed carefully a killing shot can be achieved. A bit like moose hunting with a bofors 40mm instead of the usual 120mm smoothbore with HESH rounds.
"I got One!" "where is it?" "everywhere"
Hitting a rabbit with a .308 everywhere is a kill shot
Now i get the propotion! 🤔
"like the Scope footage dont do it" 😅
@@mlscarbo
😂😂
I heard that you should use the 152mm with HE when hunting grizzlies but I supposed you could get by with an 88mm and some AP.
This is where the saying comes from OVER KILL, lol. Honestly best pest control I have ever seen as there was no pain for the animals. This is the humane way good job.
That quad bike really eats up the terrain. Thanks. Great as usual.
I was waiting for the bunnies to get close to a coastal property so I could use the 4.5" Mk naval gun from my frigate. Could get 20-30 in one round. Quite a challenging shot from 12 miles or so. Same result - no bunny left to pick up.
And plenty of Firewood behind mince'd Wabbit 😊😎
I bet the Easter bunny is pissed after this. 🤣
They are on a union strike "apparenlty"
Well . . there's another first for me. I've never seen exploding bunnies before!
The good thing is they perished so quickly there was no chance to feel pain
Bloody ripper mate as soon as u said what to see what happens to a Mouse with a .308 I was like that lil fella is becoming blood mist 🤣🤣
I used to load 130-grain HPs in my 30-06 and shoot rock chucks (yellow-bellied marmots). To say those loads were explosive would be an understatement.
The red belly black snakes must be in heaven with all that food about
Love it. I did something similar a few years ago with a friend of mine I was teaching how to shoot. We spotlighted with a .22lr and the next morning I set up a rabbit on a fence post and hit it with a hollow .308 to teach him the dangers of firearms with a live demonstration of their power.
Sweet,
308 might be a bit small caliber for rabbits, perhaps 50 Cal might be better that way you can dig the grave at the same time....great shooting....
I find that .30-30 is perfect for squirrels. Cleans and carves in one step.
@@erwinroman4217 yeah brother, lets vaporize them rabbits lmfao
Glad to see that you were aiming at vital organs so they don't suffer.😁
I have a suspicion it wouldn't have made a whole lot of difference in the end result 🤫
I wonder if an intentional gut shot would be more destructive than the wet sponge of the lungs, as far as hydraulic shock transmission.. since guts are usually full of.. stuff 😅
You sent that mouse into the shadow realm.
What’s the last thing that went threw the rabbits mind ………… his ass
Have similar results with 7.62x39, especially if you hit one lengthwise. Nothing wrong with a little overkill. Curious to see what the 50 Beowulf will do now.
You dont fuck about do you mate? 🤣
Black bits flying allover the job.
Great wee video.
Certainly don't 😁
I love the splatter factor!
"I think they'll do the trick?" ... Yes they did!! i love the fact you are destroying them with artillery - love it!
I'm laughing so much my eyes are watering, 2021 ya I'm watching exploding rabbits.
Why hollow points vs rabbits, WHY NOT!
I was crying with laughter too. I'd just pulled myself together when he then shot the mouse. 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
😂😂😂 😎
“I think they’ll do the trick” 🤣
i dont care what they say watching bunnies explode makes my day make sure you foward this to the higher ups at youtube.
I used to use these for foxes, reload my own .308 130gn speer hollow point, also for .25-06 thats a great calibre, irreparable surgery.
😊😎
one of the best, if not the best shooting sounds here!!!
Howdy from Sacramento! Great rabbit popping fun! Reminds me of when we shoot ground squirrels w the 223 or 22-250 Rem - squirrel go boom! Thanks for sharing.
Thanks for watching mate. Appreciate you dropping by !!!
Never thought I'd see .308 hollow point and rabbit together in a video title
Is that a good thing 😬
@@EDGEoftheOUTBACK A surprise to be sure, but a welcome one
Best video I’ve seen for ages. That was some damn good content!
Cheers mate.
The way I see it, is those rabbits died instantly. For pest control, Id argue this is one of the most humane ways to do it simply because they won’t feel a thing.
Agreed.
I would dissagree and say that its over the top using a 308, but like he said in the video, he wasnt planning or equipped on hunting rabbits and you gotta bring the bread home somehow. But seeing all the ivan millats in the comments getting off on seeing rabbits getting blown up is more questionable.
Good service, cats, foxes ,rabbits ,pigs, get stuck into the it, conserves the native fauna left in Oz, well done.
Thanks 👍
I love this.
About the only thing I miss from living down south is blowing up Bunnies!
" be wery, wery, quiet. I'm hunting wabbits. " -. Mr. Elmer Fudd
Holy shit those rabbits never had a chance!! Lol.
That's the ideab😁
Just found your channel actually found that video enjoyable to watch 😂
Does it count if it was enjoyable to make too. I'm glad you liked it 👍
Same as! Now im chucklin an chattin

Maaate. New sub here. Your humour is GOLD! Good to see some pests copping it sweet. Just came back from a weekend pig shooting but no joy. Too wet. Glad I get get my fix through your vids.
Thanks mate 👌. Too bad you didn't get any. Certainly some boggy conditions in some area's.

For your hands that are getting torn up by the thistle, take a Clorox or water bottle and cut it to fit around handle bars where your grips are. Tape them in place. This will protect your hands
i laughed so hard when that mouse got plugged, great stuff bud, subbed...........
Cheers Arron. I might try to get back with the 22LR and some CCI Stingers soon. That will be mouse fun 😜
And I thought my 22-250 was an overkill 😂 great to see your videos. Keep it up matey 👍👍
Scrambled rabbit, nice !🐰🐰
Looking good not a rabbit suffered in the making of this video.
It was quite instant, If messy.
Dude you’re hilarious I’ve never seen a rabbit explode until now.
We all need to see it 😁
Enjoy watching u take out pest.
That has to be the most awesome/brutal method of rabbit pest control I’ve ever seen 🤯😂😂 I knew 308 was way overkill for that but it’s also way more awesome than anything I’ve ever seen
Glad you enjoyed it
i remember taking my 7mm magnum out for elk and never saw 1 all day, i didn't want this trip wasted so i took the head off a mallard at 150 yards and had a really nice stew that evening
Yeah bro, I love the 7mm round. Not many people want to shoot it but, lolz
Blew th Qwack out of'it !
Proud shot tho!
'nice with Orange Sauce'😊
Probably the most instant kills I have ever seen
Thanks Tom
"Edge of the Outback", is association with "Pink Mist Productions", presents:??
130gn bullets from a .308 provide a slightly flatter trajectory than 150+., out to 300 yds. There seem to be grades of jacket "toughness" among the brands. Some have very light jackets; great for vapourizing bunnies and prairie dogs, but may not properly penetrate a dried mud-covered shoulder pad on a pig.
Hornady 130gn SPs, were all the go; not the modern ballistic-tipped types, which may well be better, a couple of decades on. They cleaned up a LOT of pigs and goats, though.
I have to say; you take "pest destruction" to new heights: well done.
For larger critters, the 155 SMK and similar, like the 155 grain Lapus Scenar, or the elate, lamented BJD HBC, work a treat. "Target" bullets they may theoretically be, but at pretty much any realistic .308 Win loading and range, in "wooded" country, they will bring down a decent stag. They do not "mushroom" like a soft-point, but, being slightly "base-heavy", start to tumble, intact, after a few inches in tissue. The resultant deep wound channel and "blended" organs does the rest. They MUST be driven HARD; to do this; be sensible and TEST first and watch for pressure signs.
Super fun video mate. But .... Of course it's doing massive damage... You're shooting rabbits with a damn 308!
That's handy with those hollow points, skinned and gutted in one go.
this is the greatest show of all time.. haven't laughed this hard in days
Glad you enjoyed it 👌
Dude, come on, those fucking exploding bunnies are priceless!
Impressed with the Mouse shot Mate! My .223 only rips Hares & Bun-buns in half. I always wondered about this combo, very humane results! Goodonya from West Auckland.
If RUclips doesn't work out... I see you doing comedy. You're a funny fella!
Dunno about that 😂.
Took me a second to understand the title but when I did, I accidentally cracked my phone screen. CARNAGE 😁😂
my favourite part when you flow up the rabbits it so cool
Speer TNT Varmint 130 gr HP in the 308 is just that , TNT ....I used that round when I was young and bought my first varmint rifle in 308 , not knowing any better ...it was a Winchester 70 HV varmint , black HS Precision stock , 26 " stainless bull barrel...
I put a Burris signature series 4x32 power on it .... I did alot of woodchucking with that rifle until I finally wised up and put a 220 swift barrel on it , sent the scope off to premiere reticle and had them make me a 1/8 moa dot , tree with 100 to 700 yds based on my 60 grain load data... The swift was a dream rifle...
Even in a 70 series the thistle still find their way in the tiny crack of open window and down the back of your shirt. You can't stop them
Evil things
Love the video. The 308 Win is really powerful! Also love the ATV -- it's indeed an all-terrain vehicle! There cannot be any better combination than the Pulsar scope and the ATV.👍👍
Thanks mate, it's all good fun 👌
This is amazing footage! The carnage a 308 has on small game is video game like effects! Keep up the good work and glad you got had a safe and good trip. Cheers.
Thanks for the visit
Quickest way to make rabbit soup lol
Flashbacks to a bunny I got with a soft tip .303. Got him as he was hopping away. Not much left.
Puff 💥
This dude knows how to make one hell of a meat sauce!
I’ve watched this a few times.
Still your most entertaining effort.
I think you’ve almost got me sold on the Thermion 2 xp50.
Could be the next toy in the kit!
Have fun
At first I wondered why you used .308 Win for rabbits but it got its explanation, the result was instant Bolognaise ... :)
Thanks for listening mate. So many people just front me about it, even though I had an explanation 🤦♂️
im running the same projectiles, surprisingly accurate out of a 1/10 twist
Didnt think I would ever see a 308 vs mouse!
Life is now complete 😂
In todays video I'm going to show you how to gut and quarter a rabbit in 0.03 secs using this .308 XD
308 Win with 130grn? That is a truly American level of “just enough power”!
Kinda 😂
@@EDGEoftheOUTBACK tel you what mate, you Aussie’s have got the same ideas as us up here. Always keen to have an Aussie with me.
Thanks mate. Was a good way to chew up the ammo.
"I've got the .308 and 130gn" already I'm laughing XD
Warning:graphic content is the understatement of the year
A 22.250 with 40gn vmax makes them pop also. Man that prickle field is bad land management , it was painful to watch. It could be so much more productive land.
More mouse v large caliber shots 😂 looking at the rabbit shots guess it’s only good for stewing now 😁
Fair busted them up with the 308win 😣
Great Vid Mate...best shooting vid ive seen in Ages! Very Entertaining : )
No wonder fox's do so well, unbelievable mouse numbers. Do a vid on Air rifle mouse eradication!
I'll sew what happens. Would be a fun trip but damn you'd need some pellets.
This is great man. Hahah they do some damage
I was gonna be disappointed if you didn’t at least try for a mouse. 😂😂😂😂😂😂

You sir are classic comedian. 👌
Cheers mate 👍
I think the word is "emphatic" on those bunnies.... flying mince.....
Love your work. Here in the central west of New South Wales, we have a mouse problem but I was thinking a .22LR was a bit of overkill. As for the rabbits, are you sure the .308 was big enough? Keep up the great videos with your entertaining and informational comments.
Yeah seems the mice have found the perfect season. Glad you like the video's 👌
You are not leaving any rabbit wounded that is for sure.
Love that wop sound 👍🤪
Smacks them pretty hard eh
If you wanted rabbit meat, those 308s are not the ammo you need. They are POWERFUL!
Not wasteful at all mate should be some fat lizards and birds around

Easter eggs from now on..
Or

from the mickey Mouse ( mice ) club..
Another great vid..

Get some hand guards for the quad. Keeps the cold and the thistles etc off the fingers.
Wonder if the property owner wondered the next day there were so many crows everywhere.
I do use handguards but mainly in the cold. Hot days they get a bit sticky in Australia. This owner loves the crows as it means I have thinned a few things out for him !!!
You were beaming with delight 😋.
Here comes exploding rabbits
No such thing as overkill, just enough kill
Atta boy, I like how you think !!!
SWEET ! The bright side is. . . . . You don’t have to chop up the rabbits for rabbit stew ! LOL
