      The comments gave me anxiety about the test, but it wasn't that bad. The key is breathing in and out slowly. Sip on water while the tube is going down your throat. It's very uncomfortable, but you'll get used to it after a couple of hrs.

    I just got mine out today. I have to disagree with other comments saying it “wasn’t the worst thing in the world”. To me I would have rather torn my ACL again. The measurement tube with the beads made me gag, dry heave, cry, drool, all of the above. My nurse was too nice to me as I was a very audible patient. I’m actually really glad she didn’t show me the second tube first so the first thick beaded tube was all I knew. Once the 24 hour tube was placed it was pretty annoying and gave me a migraine. I called the on call nurse about my migraine and she straight up told me to drink something to make me fall asleep (cough syrup, NyQuil, etc.) and once I got that 5 hour nap in, I definitely got more comfortable with it. As much as the measurement tube sucked, I’m really proud of myself after getting the 24 hour tube out today and not being part of the group that bails out on it. I also 100% do not blame anyone that walked out on it because I’ve thought about it at least 5 times an hour lol.

    So, I watched this last night. My test was today. I had a thicker catheter down my left nostril and was not easy. I am 2y recovered from 15y bulimia and still have bad gag reflex. I sat on my hands and then felt like a baby during it as the nurse sprayed salenine down my throat every 5 mins to swallow with it. Test took 45 min. After it was pulled out, next was the 24 hour test with thinner catheter. Still hard going down. Felt uneasy after leaving. They suggested shake. Stopped at McDonald's and drank shake no problem and then ate some parmesan soft breadsticks. Felt fine. Took nap for about 45 mins and awoke up gagging. Vomitted about t spoon of blood. Then began coughing like I was choking and next thing I knew the catheter was still taped through my nose but the other end with the probes was out my mouth. I panicked and called 911. Had to talk with catheter between teeth. Ambulance came and to the ER, 3 hours after GI Lab put in. ER doctor removed through nose. EMT said in 18y never seen that. Took great photos. Doc gave me GI cocktail to numb throat which felt like breathing tube was removed from. ER doc called GI Lab nurse who put it in asking to do again. I refused! 7 hours later and benadryl and ice cream and still feels like catheter in back of throat. Not fun! Note: if you are currently or recovered bulimic or bad gag reflexes not recommended.

    I currently have the catheter in so I can give some good insight into how it really is. Before my test I read the comments on this video and it almost made me cancel my appointment but I ended up actually going. So this catheter is MUCH tinner than the motility study catheter and way easier to tolerate. Before they insert it they numb you with some liquid that goes into both nostrils and one you swallow by mouth. Then they lube up the catheter and insert it into one nostril. The catheter is much thinner than the motility one so it is common for the catheter to bunch up in your mouth instead of going down your esophagus or possibly go into the airway slightly causing you to cough. Don't let this scare you. It is easily avoidable if you tilt your chin to your chest and swallow water through a straw as if you were trying to swallow a big pill. It will ensure it goes down the correct pipe. Now once it's in it will be uncomfortable for sure. You feel this tugging in your nose and that takes a while to get used to. It's honestly more annoying than anything. You also feel this tiny pokey thing in the back of your throat which is just the catheter being sqeezed by your UES. It's important to note that it is not painful, just annoying and uncomfortable. Eating and drinking with it feels surprisingly normal besides this tugging in your nose that seems to tug more when you swallow big things like food. By the second meal, you should be used to it. It took me about 8-10 hours to get used to it, to where I didn't even really feel it while I was sitting around. Sleeping with it shouldn't be an issue since that's when you should be most relaxed but I have yet to sleep with it. Taking it out is by far the easiest part as all you have to do is blow out your nose like you're blowing your nose into a tissue and the nurse will just pull it out. You literally don't feel it. At least that's how the other test was like. Also it's very uncommon to get a bloody nose with this test since the catheter is so thin. I hope this helps. I wish someone would have explained all this to me before I got this done. It's really not as bad as some are making it seem.

    • @solarflayer5833
      @solarflayer5833 Год назад +2

      Update: sleeping with it was no problem at all, just make sure not to roll on the catheter. I kept mine right under my pillow and made sure not to move a ton. Taking it out was a breeze and I feel so relieved that I don't have this thing in my nose anymore lol. After taking it out I didn't have a sore throat or anything. The only thing you get is a gross sour taste in your mouth when it gets pulled out but just wash your mouth out with water and you'll be fine. Overall not nearly as bad as I thought!

I completely understand the anxiety thing, I have severe anxiety so that makes going through exams like this much more difficult, and almost impossible at times. How are you feeling now? Have you gotten any answers about your condition? ( if you don't mind me asking ) I attempted the monometry test a few weeks ago and couldn't get the tube down, every time the tube got to the "gag reflux" point and I tried to swallow I threw all the water up, which made me panic and I ended up pulling the tube out myself. So my doctor decided to do an EDG first and while I'm sedated place the tube in and wake me up to do the test, hopefully that makes it a little easier. Still not looking forward to it at all. @jordancooperlalala 3 года назад +2

      I am "happy" to update you. I had the test done where they put some sort of chip on my throat to measure acid for 2 days. On one day I did my no acid diet (Acid Watchers Diet) and on day 2 I ate lots of acidic food (coffee, pizza, chocolate, citrus.) The test found very minimal difference between acid events on both days, and I was well within the normal range according to multiple doctors. They told me whatever my problem is, acid is either a small part of it or not a part at all. This was shocking as multiple GIs put me on meds and told me I had esophagitis due to acid reflux and made me change my diet. I still don't understand it.
      So then I went to a voice and swallowing doctor and he stuck a camera up my nose and into my throat. He diagnosed me with hypersensitivity in my vocal cords and/or larynx (I don't understand this very well either.) He also concurred that acid may be a small part of my problem but not the primary part. He said he did see a few little red spots on my vocal cords consistent with acid reflux. But he said the real problem is the way my vocal cords slam into each other and the insane tension in my throat all the time. He prescribed me vocal therapy which may have helped a little but did not solve my issues. He prescribed me amitriptyline which DID help my problem but it made me so drowsy I could not take them anymore. So now he has no idea what to do and neither do I. As far as diet, I just eat whatever I want because being on the Acid Watchers Diet for 3 months did not make much of a difference to how I felt.

    • @Jesus_is_Lord555
      @Jesus_is_Lord555 3 года назад

      @@jordancooperlalala yikes! Never knew vocal cords could cause problems like that. I hope they are able to find a solution for you, I guess it's a good thing there is no acid reflux and you didn't end up having to go through the esophageal manometry after all. I've been at this for 4 years now, doctors are still trying to figure out what's wrong. It started with an esophageal stricture, and constant acid reflux. I couldn't swallow solid foods, after 3 months of being on a liquid diet, they told me acid reflux was the culprit, I'm still not really able to eat much. They put me on meds, but unfortunately, I've had zero improvement with my condition even years later. So I'm hoping these next tests will give some answers.

      Después de leer los comentarios he dedicado cancelar esa porquería de examen, la tenia para el 15 de este mes pero no puedo con tanta tortura. No entiendo el del video cómo estuvo tan tranquilo mientras le metían ese catéter y lo peor, salir con ese colgandejo para la casa, comer y dormir con él...qué pesadilla

      +Courtney H. hey girl today was the day. I couldn't do it. it got to the bottom of my throat and I had to pull it out and the test was canceled I am just going to push for the endoscopy. the gagging from this is too much to handle!

    • @courtneyh.9651

      ThePinkFloydPortal oh no sorry to hear that! That scares me a little bit lol I had an endoscopy already, I basically have to have this done to see if I can get surgery. They have already determined that I have esophagitis.

    I cant understand these comments. The feeling was not pleasant but what test is? The worst part of the test was a bit of gagging. Gagging is not that unpleasant of a reaction, I cant understand why everyone is so worked up about it. Just get it in and go about your day, no big deal.
