After reading these comments I was teriffied as my 4 year old had this fitted, almost done with the test and can honestly say he's not complained once of discomfort or pain, he's eaten and drank as normal, only thing he mentioned was a sore throat from the camera! I think it's very dependant on the surgeon and where they place the device but so far no issues! Just hoping the device falls out and he passes this without issue
I am using the device. Yes, the first day is very painful to swallow. Second day is still painful but not as bad if you eat very soft diet. I noticed that with any other food is very painful. This is the second time i had this done. The chest pain from the capsule is there when your esophagus muscles are moving. Is mostly because it is a wound at the site where the capsule is inserted and also because capsule is big. As of right now, i have pain but not as bad as 1st day. I still have another 2.5 days of it.
I must be the 1% as well because I had it put in about 13 hours ago and I'm in excruciating pain!! Also, my physician did not send a journal or tell me to keep one and they did not tell me I had to push any buttons on the monitor or even explain the monitor. All I was told was keep it within 3 feet and don't sip drinks. That was it in total!! Here I am at 11:56 PM in so much pain that I cannot even sleep or take a deep breath.
That’s terrible. The nurses in the GI lab had me watch a video with instructions and they explained the log and everything before I even had it placed this morning. I have no pain, only some mild discomfort in my abdomen when I swallow. Sounds like your doctor and his staff completely dropped the ball. Hope it feels better

Yeah me too. It’s been awhile and I still feel a good amount of discomfort in that area especially when I eat and it flairs up from time to time. Could be from the biopsy too. How long did it take for your pain to go away?

It feels like a potato chip stuck in your esophagus. The discomfort comes and goes. You also get an investigation of your upper digestive tract when they insert it, so they can detect other problems. I’d say it’s not too bad, just annoying.
Agreed on the discomfort. The capsule was placed yesterday morning and it feels like I have a lump of food that's trying to come back up my throat. The more annoying aspect is the monitor I was provided doesn't have a very good range. The alarm goes off if it's more than 6 inches from my chest which is aggravating for a number of reasons. I called the GI lab to ask them if this was normal, and it's not, but there wasn't anything they could do because my study had already begun.
@@nicolerauner7298 The discomfort lessened somewhat by the middle of the second day. It was gone by the fourth day when the capsule released. Hope that helps!
I had this procedure last week and I did not experience any discomfort. I was afraid to eat whatever I wanted because my reflux is triggered by certain foods and you are not allowed to take the PPI medication. It did beep more often than I liked, but otherwise, no complaints.
This is so funny! After reading the comments it must be a lot more than 1% with pain! I could not swallow the first day. Better now but the darn thing wakes me up beeping in the middle of the night for no reason.
I sincerely feel this video is not giving the public the "Truth" to this procedure. Yes, there is a LOT of discomfort upon swallowing, and that is on Anything! The first time I had this procedure done, the capsule which is NOT small and is about a inch and a half long stayed on for about ten days. I just had my second PH Bravo done this past week. I shared with the Drs how painful that capsule was, and after a 48 hour monitoring device finished its recording, about four hours later, that capsule dislodged and is no longer causing the PAIN that they do in fact cause. Also I have a Allergic Reaction to Nickel, and yet this capsule was still put in place.
Hi Lisa, We are sorry you experienced discomfort, and we agree that some small percentage of patients do have discomfort with the placement of the capsule which is why we discuss it as a potential issue in the video. The science and studies do have a good understanding that the rate of discomfort is low overall but it is present. We appreciate your suggestions here. I had my tonsils out as an adult and as painful as that was, this bravo ph thing is excruciatingly painful. I’m currently barely making it through my first 24hours. I hate it. Fortunately I didn’t research it first as I normally would, or I may have chickened out. Maybe those of us who experience pain are the ones who have a lot of chest pain anyway, without the device. My usual heartburn is really painful.

Had to have mine removed at the E.R. the pain was excruciating and I started to have chest pain. The GI doctor didn't push it out he actually removed it completely. And once it was gone I am 80% better.
@@stace2576 Mine was supposed to fall out in 2 days per my GI doctor, but by the 4th day it didn't come out at that point my pain was unbearable. I knew it would not fall off on its own so I went to the E.R. and have it removed that way. To me, the longer it's inside of me the worse the pain is. I hope you're able to get it removed if it doesn't fall off...waiting the 7 days to let it takes its natural course doesn't seem plausible, at least to me. If I knew the result was to see how bad my reflux is, I would opt out of it. The pain wasn't worth the knowing.
Exactly! To your last comment. If this test is just to see how bad it is then what’s the point? It seems like there’s a lot of gimmicks like this that doctors do, procedures that offer absolutely to resolution. Crazy. You answered my question.
I'm going on on 7/1 for this. I have tertiary contractions in my lower 2/3rds of my esophagus though, so I'm certain it'll bug the hell out of me. I can't NOT take cannabis oil and smoke for discomfort
@karensnow2708 Good luck... just be aware that eating and swallowing is a great challenge because the pain will cause a lot of discomfort. And also good luck having it fall off naturally. Overall, it's just a test to see the extent of your reflux. Which, I think it was something I wouldn't have done if it was just to determine such a thing. Because the result of the test amounts to nothing.

I am able to swallow better today, but this is brutal. I hope it falls off early. I don’t know how they are going to read this since I am not eating normal, which I was told to do.

I can’t find anywhere where it actually states what keeps the bravo in place. Is it glued? Pinned? Suctioned?
It has a small hook tor attachment to the esophageal wall.
I had this done yesterday,it feels like something is stuck in my chest, like when you swallow a pill and it's stuck.Feels uncomfortable, also for no reason the monitor went off beeping and it was right next to me while I was watching TV then stopped suddenly, weird.
I just got it placed today and It's painful to swallow even saliva... That beeping sound goes off out of nowhere too..
@@arboludo Im having this done on March 23rd😳
@@caroltaylor3445 Good luck! The pain will go away in about a week. I suggest eating a soft diet. I had to get use to the beeping sound out of nowhere at night specially.
@@caroltaylor3445 how did it go? I’m having one done on the 30th
Should the blue light continue to blink every 12 seconds
I had one put in almost 72 hours ago but the red light keeps flashing and won't stop. Even after placing it on my chest for 50 minutes. It's not been 96 hours.
I hate this capsule it is so uncomfortable. I returned the receiver today and I have been trying to eat things that will force it to let go of my esophagus. I’ve had no luck.
Had to have mine removed at the E.R. the pain was excruciating and I started to have chest pain. The GI doctor didn't push it out he actually removed it completely. And once it was gone I am 80% better.
The pain is so bad especially swallowing or trying to eat it makes me cry. This is so uncomfortable.
It’s also not recommended to leave them on your night stand while you sleep
can you explain this?
What does L.I mean? I'm seeing that in place of the pH level.
Hi, we recommend reaching out to your doctor for more information on this.
Can anyone share how long theirs stayed in place? I am on day 5 and it’s def still there, it’s weird, I feel it more today like I did on my first day. I don’t know if that’s a sign of dislodging? Help!
Mine was placed in yesterday. I thought I was crazy since I was told there would be no discomfort. Well that was not true. I cannot swallow. When I got home from hospital I could not swallow my one salvia. I am eating soup since that’s all that goes down but not with feeling the pain in my chest. I am able to swallow better today, but this is brutal. I hope it falls off early. I don’t know how they are going to read this since I am not eating normal, which I was told to do.
@@wendyreading1130oh no. I'm going 7/1.
trying to sleep but this keeps beeping at me. help. also agree with everyone saying it is uncomfortable. I can feel it in my esophagus like food that is mid swallow. it is painful if I actually swallow. if you have this done and do not experience pain or notice it is there like the video says 95% can you please comment. otherwise if you are reading this and nobody else commented you know the video is lying haha.
I feel for you Leah. I had to move the monitor around with me when I was sleeping because it wouldn't allow me to keep it more than about six inches from my chest for the duration of the study. I finally feel like the capsule has dropped--the lump in my throat sensation isn't there today (I had mine placed last Thursday morning).
@@brookeguelker2767 yeah same, after reading the comments I just put it right next to me in bed and it shut up after that. fingers crossed the capsule drops soon!
See my reply above.
Ive had mine in 8 hours and ive had it. Im on my way to the local hospital ER to have it removed. Never again! Ive had surgery that wasnt as painful. No test should ever cause this pain. Bad Bad design. I highly suggest anyone who is ordered this test, to refuse it. Too risky of a procedure to be done just to be told you have acid reflux! I could have diagnosed that without this expensive procedure. ??????
I am a retired hospital staff nurse and worked the majority of my career at St. Anthony Central Hospital in Denver Colorado
@@tamelasmith agreed, it is painful. I was informed by the nurse that it would be a little pain. But in reality it was a lot of pain. I can barely swallow because the pain would actually made me stop. Not just food but water hurts just as much. It's like a deep sharp pain. I returned the monitor 2 hours before my time was up. It is still there and don't know when it is supposed to fall. Some are saying between 5-7 days but that is still quite a long time when the pain is that obvious.

It's very uncomfortable! Aughh 😔Suxs!!
I must be one of the 1% who have pain also with painful swallowing
My mom just got hers and is catching hell swallowing
Hated it. It actually came up into my throat!! Come to find out my GI Dr. Office does NOT have anyone who can read the test!! Check 1st. Unreal. Never ever again. Never again.
This thing hurts. You can definitely feel the probe and it aggravates your reflux symptoms. Eating and swallowing is so painful with this thing in there.
I understand the diagnostic value of this device. Nevertheless, doctors should stop telling patients that the discomfort will be "mild" or "hardly noticeable." The pain caught me totally off guard.
OMG! I thought it was just me and that my hiatal hernia was aggravated by the procedure. Hurts to swallow, cannot wait until it falls off! How long did yours take to fall off?
@@achrisa0917 About 8 days. It was one of the longest weeks of my life.
@@davidcastillo1340 OMG! I thought the 14 days without Nexium was the longest weeks of my life, but at least I could take Tums! I'm on day 2 and I'm dying!
@@achrisa0917 I lost like 5 pounds that week because I ate much less from the pain. I guess it was a blessing in disguise. Either way, they should warn you how much this Bravo test hurts.
The video is very clear that MOST PEOPLE will not feel pain. I feel discomfort but not pain. But if you feel pain PLEASE reach out to your doctor right way.
$6,000 receiver according to my gastroenterologist's office and its not even water proof 😂
It probably costs $20 to manufacture
Why would it matter that it is not waterproof ? Do you spend 24/7 in the water ? If you listened to your doctor , you can keep it outside the showers so as to not lose the signal.
Your post is of no use or help to any of us !!!
@@josephsantillo1580 so then move on and find another comment that is useful to you? Clearly you're missing the humor in something so expensive not being water proof, but I guess troll on, if you must.
