@@yeeshukrishnapradhan3186yes pure emotional..while 96 breaks your heart this will make you a good person in reality...i bet you will feel good after watching it...
trueeee, i left the theatre with much satisfaction and completeness, it was too gud. The parts of songs sung by kamal hassan makes the scene more emotional.
The karikalan chozhan which the movie talks about is legendary king of early chozha empire (600 B.C -300 C.E) the karikala chozha in ponniyin selvan is from mediaeval chozhas (848 C.E - 1070 C.E).. many chola kings have the legendary karikalan cholan name besides their name as tribute. Karikalan chozhan in meiyazhagan and karikalan in ponniyin selvan almost has 1000 years difference between them.
Karikala chozhan mentioned in this m meiyazhagan movie is responsible for building a dam across Cauvery river in a city called Trichy in Tamil Nadu. And that dam still stands. He is one of the early chozha kings as mentioned. The karikalan mentioned in ponninyin selvan is 'Adita karkalar', arul mozhi varman's elder brother and they were the medieval kings as mentioned by this commentor.
The gift scene with the sister was just unbelievable, so little said but so much emotion and impact. I have never anything like that in the thousands of movies i have seen. If that didnt shake you up nothing will.
Brother, recently we watched the movie, your review is perfectly genuine and honest, keep do continue your journey with posting honest reviews, God bless.
So many good movies in past 2 months I guess... Vaazhai was fantastic... One of the best ever and yet to watch lubber pandu and this one.... I'm waiting to hear your thoughts on vaazhai
This movie was so close to my heart becoz I too had a very similar story I met my cousin ( very distant relative) but we used to be close till 8 years old my father and all of us moved to city . Even though I forgot his name we met after 20 years( just like in the movie similar marriage function) he spoke to me like we used to with so much purity and felt very guilty coz I couldn't remember his name I was speaking informally for almost entire day ( then asked my dad in secret about his name) but we had really good time like we used too best 3 days I spent so far. ❤ This movie made me so emotional ❤
Thank you for this review. You just said it exactly how I felt and lived this film watching in my mother tongue, Tamil. Though there is close connection to language and culture Atleast that what I thought till today, but with your heartfelt review, I feel that human emotions trumps everything. Offcourse as you said some great subtitles must have helped you to connect. Thanks once for such a review and I re-live my childhood and love from my extended family. Cheers

Honest review, very nicely done...regarding your question on Aditya Karikalan, yes, the referis right. Both movies - Meiyazhagan and Ponniyan Selvan - are set in Thanjavur and the Cholas ruled over this kingdom....
Karikala cholan belongs to early chola dynasty(100CE). Ponniyin selvan deals with Rajaraja cholan from 900CE. Karikalan built the famous dam called Kallanai, which is one of the oldest dams in the world. Moreover it is still in working condition for almost 2000 years.
wonderful review.. I am a tamilian, watched the movie, loved it.. but for you to not know the language, but explaining every aspect of the movie in such clarity makes this a phenomenal review. thanks.
Felt so good hearing your review. How good movies transcend languages. The actors are super stars, but played the character. Mama is played by Raj Kiran
What a review Singhji, The Karikalan here is the early Chola. Takes us 2000+ years back. The early Karikala is sung in Sangam poetry. The stone Karthi worships is a hero stone (oldest form of Tamil religion of worshipping dead heros). The hero is the Chera king who died facing North. The song was written by a potter lady called Venni Kuyaththiyar. They still have the village Venni (the movie shows )..
Please dont remake this film to Bollywood with Akshay Kumar and Karthik Aryan and spoil the experience, instead watch the original for an original experience
Pls review the recent Tamil movie Labbur Bandhu (Rubber Ball), very interesting movie on rural cricket, relations, emotions, decent love portrayal, finally how important is family relationship.
The saddest part is the makers trimmed the most important part of the film which defines Meiyazhakan's character. Didn't even included in the OTT version. I hope they release the uncut version.
Bro the movie is good, was very emotional when I left the theatre. I was relieved like Aravind swamy when he confessed to Karthi about the guilt "I don't know who you are?" Karthi cries... What a scene❤
Thank you for your observation on the sub- titles.I am glad for its impact. Tamil is my mother tongue and In many movies I find them amusing in certain scenes. Meiyazhagan had so much to offer in every scene that I just couldn't get into the sub- title part of it .
I'm yet to come across someone who has not shed tears watching this movie. I watched it in Tamil with subtitles on OTT, loved every moment. There's a deleted scene with Dhoni, it seems it was deleted after few shows at the theater. Yaro Ivan Yaro by Kamal Hassan adds so much, we don't hear such lyrics much.. Wish there would be more such attempts at simplicity which I guess is so difficult to capture.
Kudos. Best review for this movie irrespective of the language anywhere. Glad, this review came in my feed after I watched the movie. You got my subscription- thanks
Sardarjee you are absolutely correct in appreciating this film. This is an excellent film. I have a huge connect with the film as I was also moved from hometown to chennai after completing 10th standard
Still few days left for 2024 and being malayalam movie fan, meiazhagan is the best so far 2024. What a feel, what a movie. Karthi and Aravindswamy nailed it. Thanks for the writers and director... 🥰😍🥰😍
There were 2 Aditya Karikala Chola Kings from different periods, King Aditya Karikala 1 had built a Dam 2000 years ago which is still in use in Thanjavur district of Tamilnadu, it is the oldest Dam in India and Aditya Karikalan 2 had built the famous Sri Singeeswarar Temple. @Nona Prince - You are correct. In this film, Karthi spoke abt Aditya Karikalan 2 , the same King in Ponniyin Selvan, he is also the elder brother of Raja Raja Chola😊.
It is this review by the sardar made me view this film after 30 years with my entire pariwar in a theatre Laurel Mall, chengalpattu (after Batsha in 1995!). Good movie, can see once.
One of the best movies that will stay with you specially if you are from a small town in 90s learning how to ride a bike, falling and genuinely forgetting names of the past and people of the past….
Nona Prince Bro, u gotto watch the timeless sculpture of celluloid - the movie called 'Anbae sivam', which means God is love. U will enjoy it thoroughly...!
I watched this film in a theater in india for the first time.I could see myself in Arvind swamy and karthi was the lo e of the village relatives who i hardly new or remember.I cried watching this movie and left the theater grateful for memories.I feel the natives did not feel much because they were speakig on their phones and constanly moving to buy tid bits.

Over the top movies are no longer liked - doesn’t matter if they are in Hindi, Telugu or Tamil I saw many Malayalam , Bengali , Marathi language movies - both good and some mediocre . Audience from any part of India will love a good movie. Panchayat serial is enjoyed by anyone who appreciate good serials / movies.
