Please don't change, Prem. You are a rare gem in tamil cinema, a true artist with a pure soul and conscience. It's a shame the scenes were deleted. Loved this conversation. BR's questions and his genuine interest in gaining insight into new perspectives and articulating his own feelings sets his interviews apart from all the rest . Premkumar Sir is right. There do exist people who feel a lot for social causes. There was one gentleman - a family friend - unfortunately he is no more - who was one such person. I knew him since I was around 10 yrs old till when I was in my early thirties when he passed away after a road accident. During my evolving teenage years, he was always the calm, creative, socially - conscious person who would bond with everyone - people of all ages in every family that he interacted with . He remained a bachelor till his end and photography was his passion - S.M. Sharif was one person who was universally loved by all those who knew him.
I'm an SO GLAD I watched this film before those 15mins were edited out. It adds so much depth to Karthi's character. The audience today is used to bland, fast paced narratives that most of us don't seem to get what the filmmaker is trying to say through those issues. I feel it's about empathy. Karthi's character being empathetic to everyone around him (irrespective of whether they are directly related to him) is what makes him so special. My dad who usually hates watching films in theatre these days loved this film. HE couldn't stop talking about his childhood after it. That is what a good film is supposed to do. Meiyazhagan is a BRILLIANT film.
As a person born and brought up in Chennai - having grown up with first cousins… I could relate a lot with Aravindswamy’s character… that is exactly me… I have ended up creating a shell around me after my family went through an economic downturn and the way we were treated differently pre and post the change of fortune… while we are comfortable today… I still cannot get over that phase and hence I became the “Arunmozhi” in Meiyazhagan! I hope these comments encourage him as he works on future films. After all, you’re not an ice cream seller trying to please everyone. Or worse, what if negative feedback pushes him to alter his original ideas? From the interview, we learned how this movie evolved from a short film, through rejections, to a novel, and finally to the big screen. What a journey-like a mother giving birth, but in this case, it took more than 10 months. We got similar mixed reviews for Anbe Sivam, and yet look how that film is cherished today. Our family loved this movie. It is like a breath of fresh air in the midst of violence - ridden movies which has become the new normal. The performances of the entire cast is outstanding . The subtle nuances exhibited by Arvind Swamy is amazing. I specially loved the reactions on his face in the wedding hall when Sokku Mama and the cook were pulling Karthi's leg. I loved the references to the social causes in the film . They were woven organically - be it the empathy of Karthi for lives lost in war or political events, Jallikattu or the fact that we can co- exist with all living beings portrayed so beautifully by the characters of Karthi & Arvind Swamy. I also loved the attempt to revive our pride in our Tamil language through the references to the historical events or using Tamil words for the professions of the crew I personally think Premkumar Sir should continue with his courage of conviction to intertwine his strong views with the narrative. It does trigger the dormant humane feelings in us - it is a necessity in the present world where we have become numb & indifferent to so many happenings around us which would otherwise shake us.

Meiyazhagan : A Poetic Journey of Souls -- "Meiyazhagan" unfolds like a beautifully written poem, or a novel brought to life, where each frame feels like a chapter of quiet reflection and deep conversation. At its heart is a delicate exchange between two characters: one, expressive and talkative, the other, introspective and reserved. Their reunion after years of distance feels like a quiet homecoming. There's an undeniable sense of peace and calm that envelops the viewer, with every interaction feeling like a gentle whisper to the soul. It's a cinematic experience that touches deeply, leaving behind a lingering feeling of serenity, like the warmth of a long-lost memory.
Hi Prem Brother, Thank you for this wonderful uncompromised craft and I really felt each and every scenes are very much relatable and its very much needed for this movie. I am father of two children and am in my 40's. I always watch movies with my wife and kids but I deliberately watched this movie alone on second day because I felt this is going to be something else when I watched the trailer itself. Each and every charterers are nailed the best performance and when I explained the movie experience to my wife I was emotional (the same way how I felt when am on screen) and my wife scolded me for not taking to the movie. I promised her and I took her on Monday after I dropped my kids to the school. She is bit emotional too and started wiping the tears so early when Kamal the house said "poi vaa" and set the tone and cried on the marrige scenes and other couple of scenes. Later she said, she was not very much connected to the Ezham,Jallikattu scenes but I said... that's the meyyelaghan's feelings and you have to see from his point of view and thats his nature and you said the same here... This is excellent interview and realistic conversation. Make take away from this interview. and Meiyazhagan movie feels like a meditation, where old souls are drawn to its story and characters. Karthi's performance is amazing, Arvind Swamy plays a relatable character who is detached from life, and Karthi helps him fall in love again. The rest of the cast also shines, making the movie even better The movie has only a few songs, which fit the storyline perfectly, and the background music enhances every moment. The lighting and camera work capture the heart of the story, creating quiet and still moments that show the director's brilliance. Prem Kumar sir you are awesome creator , please , please dont change, give us many such real movie. The peace of song 'Indha Maan' and 'Indha Busthan' are like the cherry on top, taking us back to old memories with their sheer brilliance. Personally, this movie taught me a lot, especially for people in their late 30s and afterwards, who might connect with its themes more than younger viewers (Again no bais). Love you, Potato, for your amazing acting!
From the UK. I come from a mixed background- grew up seeing relatives only during occasional weddings. It was such an emotional rollercoaster experience for me watching the movie!! Beautifully Raw, that’s what it meant to me.. we are closed up in so many layers, have become so thick skinned 😢 Bravo, Mr.PremKumar!!
Dear Mr. Rangan, I haven't watched the movie yet but have to mention this - You brought up the topic of hiring singer Chinmayi for dubbing in Lokesh's interview and appreciated him, here you talked about Israel. You are the only media person to discuss the most important yet least discussed topics, making it relevant in threads where people normally stay away from. I truly appreciate your sensitivity, please continue such conversations.
Prem has beautifully put Baradwaj Rangan and his know-all attitude in place. If BR thought he wanted to push Prem to a corner, he has failed. High intelligence and articulation of thoughts
Prem Sir, Saw the movie two days before. Impact was great. It could not be expressed in words. I started my career in tiruvarur & very much connected to those areas of old tanjore district. Any thing related tanjore will attract me. Even today i used to call my relation as "athaan" only. Many a times i got connected with the scenes & the story in the film. Every scene is relevant & well conceived. Family values & relations worth of those days, are well picturised in the fast pace world. Please keep continuing your great contribution to good cinema.
Love love love every scene in the movie ❤❤. Prem sir you really touched the soul again. Thank you for giving us this film. We met at Dil Raju’s office.
Loved the movie. Just felt that maybe they could have reduced the drunken talk between Aravind Swamy - Karthi, but hearing Prem's thoughts and reasons, I get it. But to me, the Karikala Cholzhan's story gave me goosebumps.
Cause and effect for him for going to the wedding is more clear. In flashback this same sister cries and ready to give up parents to be with this brother and he is still in touch with this sister. She is the only connection for him to his past. He Cant deny her wedding it is very much clear.
Once in a while a movie like this comes along and shakes us out of our reverie. Please go along with your heart Premkumar Sir and stick to your convictions. The Universe will take care of the rest.
Lucky I watched the uncut version in Singapore. I felt that we usually talk about everything like social issues, ideologies and politics in our conversation. Athumari antha drunk conversation

As you walk out of the theatre you have this enormous love for meiyazhagan and you wish you could be like Meiyazhagan but don’t deep down you also realize that this society has already made you cruel enough and these are characters which you could only see and love on big screens and it can’t be a reality. I guess in the current times movies like this are definitely needed and thanks to Premkumar for making this.
Those who have never experienced village life, love torturing relative or melodrama style movies even have that much feel for tamil culture never will dislike this movie...!

The lovely thing in the movie is , I’m watching it from London . I had missed family and friends and felt lonely here but during the movie , I felt everyone is near me during the marriage scenes I went to toilet and when I was coming out I came out and I was thinking mei Azhagan or a friend and family are waiting outside , that is the impact and that how lovely and realistic the dialogues were , this is in long time I felt the dialogues were just like how a family would speak , Thankyou Director and also Karthi and Arvindswamy to take up this film as well thanks for the experience ❤
I’m in the US. I didn’t get a chance to see it in theatres. I had to download a pirated version of the film. Totally worth it. Want to watch it again when it comes to OTT ❤
I loved loved this movie. Sending out all love and admiration to baddy to share a spot on review which kindled me to watch this movie. In last ten years, I don’t think I have ever been recommending people or rather compelling people around to watch this movie. I personally would have booked tickets for ten people around me to go watch this movie. Like what baddy said, this movie was therapy. I cried to my heartfelt content, happy cry
This film has shown the real state of tamil film audience - easily the most anti cinema audience in the country. When slowburn dramas like kishkinta kandam are doing incredibly well in kerala, the so called mature audience in TN have failed to appreciate a wholesome, enjoyable film like meiyazhagan.
I watched meyazhakan in a theatre from kerala ! And most of the gen Z audience hated the movie and they were watching reels loudly in theatre ! Kishkinda kaandam is a thriller people are waiting for something to happen ! Immature audience are always there ! A movie called Guppy was a flop in Kerala
Your comparison is stale ...kishkindha kandam is a gripping thriller ..meiyazhagan is slow burn feel good movie.. I enjoyed both in theatres ...but some audience were passing comments and restless during meiyazhagan ...but were eagerly watching kk... You can't force all the people to like a movie
I watched the movie twice in a day, and i had to watch it for the second time because of the second half, which talks about people who lost their lives fighting for our rights in thoothokudi sterlite protest and for the rights of Tamil identity in Srilanka ... That is our recent history and it just cannot be allowed to go unacknowledged ....
I can listen to Prem sir speak for years... Loved the movie meiazhagan... And loved the recently released deleted scenes as well... A Prem Kumar sir fan from Kerala....😊
Kadandha kaalam never goes, a friend passed away in the Mumbai train blast, tamil boy from Mumbai. It changed everything for the family, but even today taking the train brings that thought.
To be honest, I never noticed these social issues while watching the film ( could be because I’m not a tamilian). I could relate to aravind Swamys character a lot. Karthis character was so well written. Was a Good watch:)
I may be wrong but I guess they removed a few scenes like jallikattu ban scene and the dam conversation which included Sri Lanka Tamil genocide and sterlite shooting incidents after the release date.
I watched in theatre but to see what was trimmed down / cut, sorry to the film team, I saw the pirated version. The scenes elaborating the state of Karthi in first Maattu Pongal after Jallikkattu ban & Karthi pouring his heart out in the dam were little drawn out but still stayed relevant. I think most of the people missed out the emotional aspect of that... the rebel Jallikattu scene in which even the policeman plays "ஏறுதழுவுதல்", the conversation at the dam shows how Karthi is empathising for Eelam Tamils, those who died in Sterlite protest - he is aware of things that happen around him, he is not ignorant (அறிவிலி). Despite knowing all the injustice around him, he retains his innocence (அப்பாவி). Since those scenes are cut, people think Karthi is an innocent villager who lives within the well without exposure to literature & surroundings. I just hope that these scenes are retained in the OTT version.
English subtitles please I am from Delhi I watched the movie in theatre here in original Tamil language with English subtitles and I want to listen Prem Director ❤📽️
when issues affect us, then it leaves a scar on us and stays with us. like Every Christmas, i dont like to celebrate, cause all i could remember is the night of when my parents saw the news and we freaked out about the well being of our relatives in Sri Lanka. its been so long but till his day I stull remember that Tsunami's effect. It still haunts me. it left a huge scar on me. Till something scars you, you wont understand the pain of tthat scene.
Yenak vandh correct Tamil pesa theriyathe bcz I'm from kerala.aanalum naan ith solliye aakano Mr Prem unga padangale patha pirakum andha feel andha character yevalo aazhama pathinjirukken solli veyka mudiyath. Hopefully it was not trimmed. Another best shot was the bull. It was so majestic n beautiful to look at. The jallikattu scene gives such an awesome n bravery feel to every audience, including me as a woman
06:00 There are many people who carry the pain of what happened in Sri Lanka in the 30+ year long war and what has been happening in Palestine for the 70+ years. They were not all necessarily affected by the bullets and shrapnel, but those are people who invested emotionally and intellectually despite the discomfort.
I dint had the pervilage to cry whenever the scene demanded tears from me and i want to as i watched with my wife and kids.. Planned to watch alone trimmed version in OTT and burst out
Meiyazhagan!. A deeply moving movie, tracing our roots, kindling our emotions, memories and relations. Couldn't control my tears. A must watch, particularly for the Gen Y and Gen X! Hats off to Prem!. The right thing you did was the 18 minute unwanted political narrative dialogues, (may be due to the present State govt.'s political pressure or due to a 'compulsory template' to insert/waste reels for promoting the controversial EV Ramasamy etc..., as a pre-condition for the film's release?, whatever,) have been cut, making it a complete wholesome entertainer! An extraordinary performance by Arvind Swamy-Karthi & by all who appeared in even a single frame!
Just watched the movie. Cried many times, felt satisfied through the wholesome feel the movie induced in me. Came to watch the interview and through it, I realised I watched the trimmed version in Netflix. The way he explained how painful it was that people couldn't connect with it, yet here I'm feeling angry that how even in ott a director's vision could not be presented completely as it was intended. I lost the opportunity to watch it in theatres. If someone knows where I can watch the untrimmed version, please let me know.
Am I the only one who felt that many women did not like this movie?! It could be because it takes about men and their emotions. One of the rarest movies which touched this part. I feel this is one of the best movies this year. It really connected well. Kudos to the director 👏👏

Meiyazhagan movie feels like a meditation, where old souls are drawn to its story and characters. Karthi's performance is amazing, Arvind Swamy plays a relatable character who is detached from life, and Karthi helps him fall in love again. The rest of the cast also shines, making the movie even better
The movie has only a few songs, which fit the storyline perfectly, and the background music enhances every moment.
I wish there are subtitles in english to understand this genius even more. What a gem of a director 🙌
Amazing guy, amazing thought process. Wish i could meet him in person and get a warm hug from him.
Prem has beautifully put Baradwaj Rangan and his know-all attitude in place. If BR thought he wanted to push Prem to a corner, he has failed. High intelligence and articulation of thoughts
Prem Sir,
Saw the movie two days before.
Dear Premkumar! Please don't stop making such soulful films.
Already watched it thrice after ott. After watching this interview I want to watch it again..❤
Thank you so much for the film.. ❤❤❤
Cause and effect for him for going to the wedding is more clear. In flashback this same sister cries and ready to give up parents to be with this brother and he is still in touch with this sister. She is the only connection for him to his past. He Cant deny her wedding it is very much clear.
One of the best movie 🎥
I fought tears every scene. I am quite young but the thought of getting distanced with my family and sister broke me !!
Great movie Prem!!
Everything worked for every 100/100. after a very long time see the narrative, loving story.
I'm so happy to see this comment section, amazing movie, really moved me. Lots of love for the director and the whole team.
Once in a while a movie like this comes along and shakes us out of our reverie. Please go along with your heart Premkumar Sir and stick to your convictions. The Universe will take care of the rest.
I couldn't believe till I saw this movie....that it'd be so loving and engaging when 2 guys interact. What a thought !! Hats off Prem.❤
I guess in the current times movies like this are definitely needed and thanks to Premkumar for making this.
i think the beauty of it is that, you don't have to be like meiyazhagan, you just have to keep trying every day to be like him and that is enough
The edited out scenes were the Best scenes of the movie for me❤ Meiyazhagan will be one of the best movies of my lifetime for me! Thanks a lot♥️♥️
Super amazing movie after a long time.Good screenplay and acting by all, kudos to the director for his meticulous work 👍
Those who have never experienced village life, love torturing relative or melodrama style movies even have that much feel for tamil culture never will dislike this movie...!
From 7:50 Prem Kumar to those tharkuries -- Loved your perspective Prem -- Social conscience -- Lite ah BR sir ku embraccing ah agi asadu vazhincharu 😁
Hope he releases the novel officially, would love to read it!
What a great experience, Watched it twice. Thanks Prem.
Wov.. good to see them back
Splendid movie. Looking forward for more from Prem. Such a simple but deep movie.
மிக அருமையான பதில். பிரேம் அண்ணா இதே மாதிரியான திரைப்படங்களை எடுங்க ❤
Such high maturity as an interviewer. I was amazed at how baddy walked around the cause and effect and spoon feeding conversation.
Prem sir, you are such a thought provoking person. You are doing awsome job, keep up your good work. வாழ்க வளமுடன் 🥰🥰🥰
Its generations fault that ppl dont like meyazhagan. Its a gem!! 💎
Nee mudra dabari, malayam padathuku muttu kudukura naiga, idha pakula😂😂
Please always continue this realism mixed films Prem sir , ❤
I can listen to Prem sir speak for years... Loved the movie meiazhagan... And loved the recently released deleted scenes as well... A Prem Kumar sir fan from Kerala....😊
sir thanks a lot for the good movie. i saw the movie in gulf with my family. such a beautiful movie. i enjoyed so much.
Please continue making movies like these Prem Sir, I really liked the movie 😁😁
Thanks for this interview 👌🏻
Please we want the entire novel to be made as a series. Or even multiple part movies. It’s a treasure.
Missed the theatrical exp, Can’t wait for the OTT release ❤️
English subtitles please
I am from Delhi
I watched the movie in theatre here in original Tamil language with English subtitles and I want to listen Prem Director ❤📽️
What a Movie, My God - Ive got After effects. Beautiful Movie
when issues affect us, then it leaves a scar on us and stays with us. like Every Christmas, i dont like to celebrate, cause all i could remember is the night of when my parents saw the news and we freaked out about the well being of our relatives in Sri Lanka. its been so long but till his day I stull remember that Tsunami's effect. It still haunts me. it left a huge scar on me. Till something scars you, you wont understand the pain of tthat scene.
Prem explaining the movie makes me want to see the movie for a second time and appreciate the nuances better.
Yenak vandh correct Tamil pesa theriyathe bcz I'm from kerala.aanalum naan ith solliye aakano Mr Prem unga padangale patha pirakum andha feel andha character yevalo aazhama pathinjirukken solli veyka mudiyath. Padam paath days aach aanalum innum nenaykum poth andha feel appadiye irukka . Such a good movie ❤
what an interview!!!! wowwwww baradwaj rangan asks the best questions....
hats off to Prem - the movie is a Gem, and its characters just shine brilliantly. I know people with a heart of gold like meiyazakan:-)
That long conversation about social issues was one of best scenes.
Hopefully it was not trimmed. Another best shot was the bull. It was so majestic n beautiful to look at. The jallikattu scene gives such an awesome n bravery feel to every audience, including me as a woman
@@mmn4470 i think that was trimmed
18 minutes have gone. So that s gone i guess
Anyway ott will have full version
@@mmn4470no the jallikattu scene was not trimmed, only the Pongal and karthi's diy jallikattu scene was trimmed
I watched the movie yesterday...there was no scene about social issues 😮
Awesome movie... please ensure to retain longer version on OTT
You are a wonderful person ❤
06:00 There are many people who carry the pain of what happened in Sri Lanka in the 30+ year long war and what has been happening in Palestine for the 70+ years. They were not all necessarily affected by the bullets and shrapnel, but those are people who invested emotionally and intellectually despite the discomfort.
C.Premkumar thank you dearly for this film🙏
#PCU - Prem’s cinematic universe bringing nostalgic memories in both his movies
Thank you so much wonderful film❤
I lkied a lot❤❤..
The director takes alot of style...for me it looked like a majod majidi film..
Best movie in the Kollywood thanks for this masterpiece ❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
It was a fantastic movie, it was more than a movie, felt like I lived inside the movie, didn’t want it to end.
I absolutely loved the movie. A movie full of life ❤️
I connected so well and cried at so many places.
I dint had the pervilage to cry whenever the scene demanded tears from me and i want to as i watched with my wife and kids..
Planned to watch alone trimmed version in OTT and burst out
LOVE YOU Prem Kumar 🥰 Meiyazhagan is such a masterpiece for Tamil Cinema
Film is soo good I already watched it twice … ❤
People like him should make a movie atleast once every two years.
Going to book for another time to watch this masterpiece
I liked the untrimmed version sir ❤❤❤
Most awaited interview💯
