Those who've been following BR's wordpress blog know that Bala cancelled BR's interview post Naan Kadavul's release, as the director was upset with BR's review of the film. Glad to see that life has come to a full circle for them both 😁
I still remember that first day first noon show at Albert Theatre where a total audience of only 20 people were there. I went to that first show because prior to the release of the film Ilayaraja mentioned about this film in his interview in Anandha Vikatan. During that period films were very much cliche songs shot in foreign locations, unwanted comedy track etc etc it was Sethu which hit hard with a iron Hammer on the audience head and showed the other side. A stunning performance of Vikram pulled by Bala turned the entire cinema industry to see the real art of film making. To be honest Vikram, Sreeman, Surya, Karunas, Kanja Karuppu, Motta Rajendran, Laila, Sivakumar, Mano Bala, Arya, Vishal, G.V.Prakash, Atharva, Sangeetha, Cinematographers Rathnavelu, Balasubramaniam, Arthur Wilson talents were showcased to the audience by him only. After Sethu only Tamil Cinema got some good movies including Kadhal, Paruthi Veeran to name a few

Naan kadavul is one of the best Indian films of all time. Tamil cinema may have quite a few good directors now but bala is a true force of nature and an amazingly singular filmmaker.

Bala should make a master class in filmmaking. Bala is the alternative side of perspective. Even shakespear play Romeo Juliet, Othello, Merchant of Venice all great plays ends in tragedy. Tamil filmaking must have all sides of emotions. That is why Tamil movies are best, they show you the glamour, action, comedy, dark comedy , tragedy, mustery, happiness. All the navarasam must be in a filmaking then only the movies will be enjoying to watch. Also it gives opportunity of telling all types of stories from various viewpoints. Its no doubt after Barathiraja, who used to have a lot of tragic endings we love his films so is Bala. Especially, his perspective on sprituality and human society. He shows the beauty of Banaras and all aspects of life on earth whether it’s dark or white.
One of the finest directors in India ! His Paradesi is one kind of a film which has all the facets to win even an Oscar! He should be given more freedom and should do more films... Vetrimaaran's films are slightly overrated according to me and Bala is one fine director who is 10 vetrimaarans... This is my humble opinion.
