I made this last night for my family and let me tell you!!! My parents enjoyed it so much till they were sucking the bones clean! The pork neck bones become so tender and the broth is so flavorful. Please try your best to get the perilla seeds, they really do add a yummy nutty flavor to it. I ordered mines from Amazon but I got a bag of perilla seed powder instead of the seeds. I also cut back on the amount of red pepper powder flakes that was used because I like spicy food but not too spicy. Thank you Seonkyoung for such a great recipe. You make your recipes so easy to do at home. One day I'll be able to go and visit Seoul. But until then I'll continue making your recipes at home. Try this recipe everyone!! You won't be disappointed! :D
Ebony i want to make this for my family. My husband and i love spicy but my children are ok with some heat but not a lot. When you cut down on the pepper flakes is it tolerable for people who dislike spicy food?
@Ebony Arnold Uhhh, "mines"? Do you mean "mine"? "Mines" is not a word. Well, it is, but it means "the plural form of 'mine'" (the thing you get precious metals, gems, and coal from).
@@lisahinton9682 i know right? They speak in ebonics which is lazy talk. They don't pronouciate theur words correctly. It's laziness, plain and simple. The dumbing down of the schools is to blame for this.
I appreciate it so much that you list all the ingredients below instead of a link. Makes following your recipes just that much easier. This is one of my favorite soups but I have never made it. Your recipe looks so good and easy to follow. I’ll try making it this week. Thank you!!!
I made this last night and had leftovers today - and it was so so delicious! I wish there was more but we finished off an entire pot in two days. This is a fantastic recipe - much better than what I have gotten in Korean restaurants. Thanks, Seonkyoung!
I've made this twice in 1 week! Thank you for putting ingredients under the description box and link to written recipe as well. Follow this recipe and you will be rewarded with delicious, authentic tasting gamjatang. One tip is you can actually go up to 4.5lb of pork neck bones for this recipe. Given it does take some time. Why not make lots. Personally for hearty appetites I feel doubling it allows people to get enough meat. Especially of your pork necks are not as meaty. Wild sesame seeds is a must. She provided an amazon link. It's hard to find, even at local asian grocery stores. Sesame powder is more widely available, which I feel is a good substitute
I just wanted to say Thank you soooo much for the recipes. I tried it and it turn out delicious. I’m Indonesian and it’s my first time eat Korean dish.
This was my favorite dish to eat when we lived I S Korea, the restaurant would add ramen noodles at the end to soak up all the juice and we would finish it that way. Sooo delicious.
Used to eat this w friends when I was stationed in South Korea. We loved it every time. Our Korean friends told us it’s also called “Hangover Soup”! Which made sense because the restaurant was super busy on weekend late nights after people drank at the many Soju stands. Now I can’t find it back in the states. Bummers, but thank You for this video. 🇰🇷
I'm gonna try to make this soon. It's what I miss the most about Korea right now. Thank you for your amazing instructions and I'll be following you for sure!
Oh my god. This was one of the best things I’ve ever eaten. I already commented earlier but now that I’ve finished. Holy s***. I’m a great cook. I’ve made a lot of different kinds of foods, including from my own main culture, Azorean Portuguese, but this was f***ing amazing. And I didn’t even have perilla seed powder. I had to use toasted sesame seed powder.
I love all Asian foods. Chinese, Vietnamese, Korean foods are the best tasting and you don't get tired of eating it. They respect food. The cooking is detail.
ohh, missed kamja tang very much. I used to cook this when i was in korea. So delicious, you'll regain your lost energy after a hard day work... with soju (korean liquour) or mekju (Beer) thanks for sharing keep cooking and stay safe
I love the way this recipe looks. I can't wait to use this on another extended family dinner (Where we invite cousins, aunts, uncles over to eat). It looks like such a fantastic comfort food!
“Same thing, but not the same thing?” 🤣 I know exactly what you mean... My mom says the same thing… But she says, “Same, same but different!” 😂... I love all your videos. You’re so funny and full of life. Exactly What the world needs more of 🥰
pesto12601 LOL calm down...I am well aware of that. My comment was meant to be a compliment. :) I am subscribed to her and not others like the other one you have mentioned because as a Korean-American who grew up on good Korean food, I really appreciate the authenticity of her recipes.
Actually SK has only been cooking a few years, since she arrived in America. Maangchi's been cooking for something like 50 years, most of it in Korea, as a mom and housewife. The skillsets are pretty different. Maangchi made her channel before SK was even cooking at all!
This was absolutely delicious. It was a bit spicy for my husband (I loved the spice), but he still ate it all. I did make rice to help him with the spice. My go to from here on out. 👌🏽👌🏽
This... This has to be my absolute favourite Korean dish of all time, and I love eating it whenever I get a chance.. (which isn't much.) I am super thankful to have discovered your channel today, and I am going to try to cook more dishes like this in the future, and when I get a chance. My question is, do I have to grind the Perilla seeds? I remember eating Gamjatang in Calgary in a place called "Don Day", and they had the seeds whole. I loved it 'cause they just popped in your mouth, and it was a great flavour. Thank you so much again for your channel!
I have been craving this for a long time. My last taste of this dish was during my vacation in Busan in June 2018. I can't help it just tastes soooo good!
I made this tonight. There were some delays when my daughter came downstairs with my grandson who decided he wasn’t sleeping tonight (we have a little two-family bungalow). We are eating it at 10:50 am. Fortunately, Covid means time is relative. Also we are old and never sleep (56 and 53). Rui is still awake. Just heard him screaming. He’s 16 months and it’s Covid. Eating our soup now! It’s 11:00 pm!
Thank you so much! I love this soup so much and I get cravings for it all the time. Now, I can make my own version with less spice because my poor taste buds always hate me after eating spicy foods. I tried this today and my family loved it. Be safe and take care Seonkyung-ssi.
Wow. This looks amazing. I can't wait to try. Bought some neck bones and did not know what to do with them. Soup sounds great! Gonna subscribe to channel too. Thank you.
Hey Beauty! Can I use regular cabbage or semi-fresh kimchi in place of the fresh Napa cabbage? It’s what I have in the house. Will it change the authentic flavor profile of the stew too much? Also can I just grind my roasted sesame seeds to make the powder?
hi i just got chopsticks and i suprised myself i can actuall use it thank you soo much for teaching me how n also thans to my friend for bringing it for me and my kids to learn how to use and practice. lots of love from trinidad
Thank u for the good and very easy way how to cook it.. went to South Korea and test it and I can't forgot how good test is it.. easy to listen what u said and how to cook.. thank you 👍👍
Hello. You have great videos. I'm wondering if you have Japgokbap recipe. When I eat at a Korean restaurant I see them as color purple with some beans in them. So good.
I was just looking for this recipe the other day! I have everything but pork neck bones. Btw Walmart carries pork neck bones for super duper cheap! Maybe $3 or $4 bucks for a tray!!!
The weather is getting cold here, and gamjatang is my favourite Korean stew. I'm definitely going to make this soon. Perfect with some Korean alcohol e.g. soju ❤
It's interesting to me how many American ppl are saying the made this stew for dinner. I'm wondering how they found the perilla seeds and Parilla leaves, did they order it or found it at the Korean market, it's actually very difficult to find even in the Korean markets, or did they improvise and prepared it without.
Is this soup similar to spicy pork rib soup (dweji galbijjim)? I can use pork rib instead of pork neck bone. I had it at Korean restaurant. It was very good that I want to try to make it.
HI Seonkyoung! thank you for this recipe, my husband is a big fan! Can you do a recipe on a korean street food with sweet fried chicken with duk (rice cake) almost like fried chicken with rice cake? I don't know what it called and I tried looking it up. Thank you so much and have a great day! love your videos as always!
I love how all cultures take what we all have in common like the same food and label it as theirs.😊. Americans call it Southern Pork Neck Bone Soup, Korean Neck Bone Soup, Jamaican Neck bone Soup. Is it just me that notice this? Same food different seasonings. Looks good +Seonkyoung Longest! Thank you for doing it Korean style. Love your channel.
Beaute' Naturelle You are absolutely right. I grew up in the American south eating neck bones. It is a soul food staple. It is so nice to know neck bones are also "Seoul food."
Yessss! I've been wanting to try this and your recipe video came out just in time! Also your sweater is perfecttt 👌👌👌👌 maybe just because I love giraffes ❤️

We do the same in Puerto Rico we call them sopitas de hueso or sopitas de puerco 😍 they are just delicious!!
Yup. Just like here in our country we call it "Nilaga". Minus the red pepper paste. We just put a lot of ginger, pepper and diff. vegetables. 😊
I like the new logo (top left corner) Seonkyoung, what is the idea behind it? Chopsticks?
I got to try this one of my favorite Korean dish
Hi Seonkyoung, what size are your le creuset pots? Love your cooking recipes!
