Sat on a balcony in Marbella on a lovely holiday and just this minute made this my Christmas present to open when I get back home to the sun free UK. Feliz Navidad 🎄🎄🎄
God i really wish these were 4K and region free but even still the box is so beautiful I might just have to get it anyway even if I can't watch them lol
Excellent set from curzon. Been looking forward to this set since its announcement. I had to pick up the set and the separate 4K of harmonies. Love all his films.
I had never seen any of Tarr’s stuff before but I recently watched Werckmeister Harmonies and it truly felt like a one of a kind experience. Quite visceral. The camera work and the slow pace felt necessary for it to have this impact. I also think the score hits at just the right times. I just assume his other films are also quite unique, but I will never forget how emotional WH made me feel.
I'm assuming they sourced my 4K resto of SATANTANGO for this set. Amazing film. Tarr's use of "slow" draws you in. Instead of 3D or giant screens to immerse you, Béla simply doesn't cut away. It's an experience.
Hey Elliot. I would love a set like this in the US. I bought the Criterion Werckmeister and have not seen it. Saw Turin Horse when it came out and loved it. Satantango is a friends all time favorite film, but always been intimidated by the length. Maybe I could do it over 3 days as a mini series. I don't understand this issue with pace. One of my favorite films is Jeanne Dielman and that's hardly a thrill ride. Great review - thanks! Loving the content.
Turin Horse is his only movie I saw in a theater, and it was amazing. The quietness and darkness really enhanced the experience, and I would say that's the case with most slow cinema.
I have only seen Turin Horse in theater so have been looking for digging deeper in his ouvre so have been keeping my eyes on this set so maybe will get this for christmas present to myself!
Thanks Elliot. Love Bela Tarr. His cinematography is one of my favorites. Have you seen Arbelos' releases? They looked fantastic to me, do you know if they are the same transfers?
Why do Curzon continue to put the lettering the wrong way round on their spines? Id really like to get these dirextor foxused sets bit i cant justify the price. Although they do get discounted often. I really want the Lars Von Trier set and Peter Strickland one too. Nice review mate and I am yet to check any of this film makers work out.
I found Turin Horse a bit slow, but maybe I should revisit. I watched Werkmeister Harmonies a month or two back and enjoyed it, maybe after TH it seemed a bit faster? Overall I’m not sure that he’s really my tasse du thé, so I wouldn’t get this set. I have no doubt it’ll be a fine representation of his work. If I had cash to throw at films and time to watch them (I have neither) then I might invest. Thanks for the review however, Elliot.
Great showcase! From what I have seen Werckmeister Harmonies is my favourite by Tar. Satantango is too long, so much to admire with it, it defeated me with its run time and I'm a patient viewer with many slow cinema films being amongst my favourite, we all have our limits I guess. Hope to get this set one day. Cheers
A region modded player will be the best decision you ever make (or opening pandora's box depending on how you look at it). Envy over Second Sight releases finally convinced me to fold on that and it is beyond worthwhile.
Here's my video on the last Curzon Collection set (Peter Strickland) ---> ruclips.net/video/nwQzEyP0P60/видео.html
Béla Tarr makes lighthearted comedic movies. I like him. His movies are a little on the short side, though.
Curzon sets as perfect. The type of packaging all physical media boutiques can aspire to!
I didn't know if Tarr till you posted this. But you have sold me on wanting this set. I love new adventures in art films.

Thank you for the video, I completed my Béla-Tarr-Collection.
His films are definitely a vibe and takes patience, cinema aint supposed to boxed into a certain frame, so i love his slow pace.

Got my copy I was already impressed by Sanantango and Werckmeister Harmonies but set is excellent.
I recently rewatched Satantango and I was surprised how time flied. I watched it in one single day with a few breaks.

I love box sets too! I just counted and I’m up to 22 box set. But l, so far, none from Curzon.

Any notable difference from the Werkmeister Curzon and Criterion 4K releases?

I was so excited until I realized the box set isn't Region A. 😥
Same...

But... Mclaren weren't world champions in 2008. Is that like a printed-to-early case sweater?
Got mmy
Did it come with coffee?
