I think the point was to show that people can be racist without even knowing it. The friend shows little regard to the reality of hatred that has existed, and actually admitted to owning a Golly Doll. My guess is that she grew up in a racist household, and even though has lived around people of varying races and ethnicities, still developed some racist tendencies that until now have flown under the radar, "She's being nice to me, so she can't be racist." That kind of thing. Honestly, I don't know what's worse: Deliberately practicing hateful tendencies, or practicing them and innocently thinking that they're okay.
Interesting Fact: the actor of Mr.Sins or Mr.simms ( as he’s also called in the first 2 movies) in this Film is also the Voice of President Curtis in the Series “ Rick and Morty” ironically…just thought I’d pass along that tidbit of Trivia 101 … ( because season 2 and 3 was in 2016 and 2018 which was the first 2 appearances of President Curtis in the series)

Compared to the first one, which was a progressive movie, but didn't remind you of that fact every 5 minutes and told an actual compelling set of stories that made you laugh and scream. This story, and the movie in it's entirely, fell into the easy trap of putting the message over the story. There's no subtlety, and very little nuance. Everything is hammered in and shoved in your face. Prioritizing the message not only harms the story, but the message as well. For if you preach the message without the story, the audience will not give the message any thought, regardless of its virtues.

Clarence actually wasn't dead during the creation of this movie. He was offered to come back and reprise the role of Mr. Simms, but at that point, Clarence had already retired from acting.
