Not really. You still have a legal obligation to make sure that your vehicle is road-worthy. An MOT is just a certificate to say that on that day the car met the requirements of the test. Cars can (and do) pass MOTs that are literal death traps because the failure points are hidden under plastic panels...!

I would have suggested the "rat rod" way of doing it but do put a better engine into it and set it up for a light offroader/overlander rig, maybe a camel trophy clone, and add air lockers into the front and rear ends or at least lsd's
I am surprised Edd took the risk of driving it on the road bearing in mind the condition of the front steering and brakes, anyone going under that vehicle would have seen the oil contamination on the discs and said **** that and would have refused to drive it. Throw in the corrosion near the seat belt mounting points and a moderate collision where the brakes failed could have seen you ejected via the windcsreen in the seat! I know Edd built a cheap ejector seat for TG but that would have been even more cheaper and far more lethal.
Text briefly pops into the screen at the 7:25 mark. Had to slow down to the .25 speed to be able to pause it and read it. Interesting! Pretty comical stuff! Thanks Ed!
Obviously financially not a good idea but heart rules the brain, remove body from chassis, replace chassis with new zinc coated one and take it from there.
What a useful video. Thanks for illustrating all the common issues that might cause an older car to fail its MOT In my case, a 25 year old car with potential fails due to corrosion within 30cm of suspension mountings......I was wondering whether to save it or scrap it, but since your video is promising explosions as an alternative, I'll watch to the end.
I agree with Ed , you don’t work on old cars because it’s the sensible thing to do. You do it because you love it. And to prove to your friends that tell you to scrap it, that it can be saved.
@@user-kc1tf7zm3b it does have value in that loads of jobs can be demonstrated on just one vehicle but I do wish your skill and valuable time could be spent on an L322 like mine to help to complete a great example of the 3.6. This Range Rover series has been my favourite on your channel so far. I don't know why. Maybe because I have sentimental value with these old trucks too. I hope you keep wrenching on this classic!
I just love your show! I like the subtle English humour and the acting in the dream sequence was spot on :D The CG budget is off the roof in this episode :D I know you were just playing and the fate of the Range Rover was decided but whenever a positive outcome came up John was smiling with a little pain and it seemed he would like to save that machine still. I hope you took out as much reusable parts as possible before finishing it off (you finished it off, did you!? :) ). Like that really nice fuel tank, it looked brand new, it would have been a shame to let it go after all that work. I'm watching a DIY car mechanic youtuber who has a fascination of Range Rovers and from time to time tries his hand at one but there's some weird engine failure that keeps coming back and if the Range Rover has that it doesn't worth dealing with the car. Because of his videos I don't trust fixing a Range Rover but considering this a 1985 car and it still runs I'd say that the other guy just didn't have good luck or you are simply better than him :) (he's called samcrac)

I'd be scared to even be under a car with this much rust. It looks like it'll split in half and fall on your head any minute now. D:
GET A GOOD FRAME OFF A DONNER !! CHEAPER WAY TO GO !!
Slow build up to an epic finale... lovely
I would have suggested the "rat rod" way of doing it but do put a better engine into it and set it up for a light offroader/overlander rig, maybe a camel trophy clone, and add air lockers into the front and rear ends or at least lsd's
From the USA, great show Edd. Keep them coming.
MOT Centre, a money making exercise, can't believe they failed your precious rover 😘
@@darreng745 lol - seen far worse on the roads!
Thanks for illustrating all the common issues that might cause an older car to fail its MOT
In my case, a 25 year old car with potential fails due to corrosion within 30cm of suspension mountings......I was wondering whether to save it or scrap it, but since your video is promising explosions as an alternative, I'll watch to the end.
Nothing wrong with John's memory if can remember when he last serviced the RR...lol 😆
I agree with Ed , you don’t work on old cars because it’s the sensible thing to do. You do it because you love it.
And to prove to your friends that tell you to scrap it, that it can be saved.
£100 and ill get you a fresh mot on it.
bloody hell, only £40 in my local pub, daylight robbery.....
Edd, Do,nt worry, I have a 1983 auto RR that has been on my drive for 20 years, you can use that.
I can imagine what you would have said Edd if Mike had rolled up outside the garage door with that one on Wheeler Dealers....l
Yes, indeed: “This Range Rover is total shit. Find me a better and more worthwhile example.”.
@@user-kc1tf7zm3b it does have value in that loads of jobs can be demonstrated on just one vehicle but I do wish your skill and valuable time could be spent on an L322 like mine to help to complete a great example of the 3.6. Mine has a little rust on the rear arches in the normal place to finish and it's boss. Thanks Edd.
@@gtek8021 For just about everyone else with a moribund and decrepit vehicle there is only one sane and rational choice: scrap the vehicle, and, buy something much newer. The true restoration cost at market value would be utterly ruinous.
But, this is a TV show at the end of the day, so one primary purpose this restoration project is to simply garner viewers. Business is business. Edd China does not work for free.
@@user-kc1tf7zm3b "The true restoration cost at market value would be utterly ruinous." this 100% says to me you're not a car person. Where did Edd say he was going to do any work for free? Edd doesn't need people like you protecting him. He's a big lad and I'm sure he and Mrs C can look out for each other just fine.
@@user-kc1tf7zm3b as I said earlier !
Anyone else would simply say the Range Rover is scrap. But when a man has a bond, love and a sentimental attachment. I fully understand why he would do anything to save it.
Well, I feel better about my P38 needing brakes and a possible headgasket 😂
Dziękujemy.
the owner of that landrover is the most british guy to have ever britished
That was great Edd, what a lot of work needed, the ending was funny for the sake of your time I only wish it was true and indeed the RRover was actually blown up by its beloved owner 🤣🤣
When the cost to repair outweighs the cost to replace, time for dynamite!.
Nice video! I love John's attitude towards the thing. Looking forward to the next project.
Upload your progress like Mustie1 does. I'll watch an hour of Maingy Rangy every Sunday to see the progress.
It's already a series.

This Range Rover series has been my favourite on your channel so far. I don't know why. Maybe because I have sentimental value with these old trucks too. I hope you keep wrenching on this classic!
Fix it up
Great video! Amusing, entertaining, and detailed. That ending was classic! Hope you fix the beastie!
You should have had a separate scene for the scrolling mot failures up the bonnet to the Star Wars theme. 👍
I just love your show! I like the subtle English humour and the acting in the dream sequence was spot on :D The CG budget is off the roof in this episode :D
I know you were just playing and the fate of the Range Rover was decided but whenever a positive outcome came up John was smiling with a little pain and it seemed he would like to save that machine still.
Ed charge him a lot, he let it get to this stage. it's a turd!
Nah, the real turds will come when the first BMW X-1s start getting to this stage and someone is mad enough to want to repair them. At least 80s steel can be put back together with a hammer hahaha those early “Stuttgart didnt want to build it so the yanks buggered it up” jobbies are awful enough in near new condition 😂😂😂
Blow it up, blow it up, blow it up. That was what I wanted before the end. And the end it's really entertaining. Well done!
